Thinking this thread could be used to post a quick list of what you still need to buy on your Christmas Gift list this year and people can maybe point out or offer any bargains / places / where you could get those items reduced.

Still outstanding for me:

  • Minnie Mouse Jumperoo
  • Jo Malone perfume
  • Amazon Kindle x3
  • A stuffed dog teddy

If anyone sees deals on xbox games please let me know. I have 2 to buy.

SpeakingFranglais · 19/11/2021 07:14

Everything and I’m annoyed as I’ve usually done it all by
Now

Crumblinginside · 19/11/2021 07:18

Holly present giving are not really the done thing at secondary (maybe something small for the form tutor or favourite teacher)

I have to get something for dh and the neighbours and two colleagues I work with.
Finished dc yesterday (just have to buy a game)

DockOTheBay · 19/11/2021 07:37

Well DC2 dropped a bombshell we now need to try and find an Xbox series x (no hope) or get a British blue kitten and all it’s accessories.
If they're old enough to ask for a gift like that they're old enough to understand that it won't be possible.

KevinTheKoala · 19/11/2021 07:43

A coat for a man, multiple gift sets/gift cards and token gifts for the wider family and the one I can't find - display stands for collectibles Confused. All of the children's presents and most of my partners are done though but the adults can wait until after my dad's birthday now.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/11/2021 07:50

All of them!

SkankingMopoke · 19/11/2021 07:55

@Lightisnotwhite

I don’t get the done and dusted people. The best bargains and choice is from about mid November to early December. If you got it all in August surely you are kin kicking yourself now?
Not at all, it's quite the opposite in fact. I only buy when I see things on offer/clearance and do it throughout the year. I don't decide in August to just go out and buy it all there and then at full price! A good example is DCs' joint gift: it was bought in July when I saw it at over 50% off. I checked the price tracking, and it was the biggest discount it's ever had. Now, it may be discounted to the same level as a Black Friday deal, but why take the risk? It certainly won't have even more knocked off it. Another example: DD1 is getting a chemistry set, bought in the John Lewis end of summer clearance sale. It was also 50% off. A lot of DCs stocking fillers came from summer clearance sales too eg Smiggle pens and Accessorize hair clips. Their pre-Xmas sales are never as good as their end of season ones. And if your child wants one of the 'must have' toys of the year, IME they are all incredibly hard to come by past October. I still remember the stress from a few years ago, when DD1 decided in November that the thing she wanted most in the world was a Fingerling. Ended up paying full price for a bigger set than wanted as that's all there was after weeks of 'Sold Out'.
UndertheCedartree · 19/11/2021 07:56

I need to get my teen DS a book - I've asked him what he would like but he's not been very forthcoming. I would also like to see if I can find a cuddly for both DC's stocking but it needs to be inexpensive. I also need to get some sweets for their stocking. I've got their main present but will get them a winter outfit each. Once their dad gives me money I'll be getting their present from him. My DS is having a figure from a video game he loves and my DD is having a baby doll and doll bed.

InvincibleInvisibility · 19/11/2021 09:13

I just need to get drink and chocolates for the stockings.

I take a long time thinking about what to buy and prefer to get it when I see it.

The country I live in doesn't do sales like in the UK so I don't have to worry about timing.

I am under a lot of stress atm so buying and wrapping things gradually is helpful to spread out the time spent.

It helps that I don't buy for many people!

ApolloandDaphne · 19/11/2021 12:00

@Chesneyhawkes1

All of them!
Me too!
JenniferWooley · 19/11/2021 12:03

I only need 2 gift cards for godchildren & my dads gift but I know what that is so not stressed about that. And I've started popping a Christmas extra (bottle of wine, box of chocs etc) in with my weekly shop so that the stash builds up & it's not a mad dash the week before Christmas.

For those whinging it's only November & they don't buy anything until December... I'm an early started & this year started in February, due to a combination of sales, special offers & discount codes I managed to get DD2's gifts for £350 when the full cost would have been approx £600 - had I left it to last minute they'd have either cost a lot more or she'd have a much smaller pile! Starting early has saved me £250 and that's before I work out the savings on everyone else's gifts.

Will wrap next week when I have a few days off work.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 19/11/2021 13:45

Need to still get the following:
Mum no clue yet
Dad no clue yet maybe golf vouchers he likes
Dh an armchair he wants but I'll order closer to time
Game for dh
Car mats dh asked for
About 12 selection boxes for young cousins on dh side we never see

Dh a bit weird this year as only really asked for stuff for his campervan he's building.

Done the rest.

Lightisnotwhite · 19/11/2021 16:32

SkankingMopoke

I hear what you are saying but it still runs the risk of buying bargain gifts that no one actually wants. I mean you may get deals on “stuff” but if you’ve spent your budget and then cone the winter they ask for something what do you do? You’ll end up spending over regardless.

So much stuff only gets released pre Christmas especially “must have” toys.

I don’t but anything full price whatever the month.

SkankingMopoke · 19/11/2021 18:52

@Lightningisnotwhite yes maybe if you are buying blindly. Things bought super early tend to be items that we know will be loved. DD1 is science, Harry Potter and Lego obsessed. This is incredibly unlikely to change even in the next 12 months, therefore a bargainous HP Lego purchase or her chemistry set is guaranteed to be very welcome. Ditto Barbie/Lego/Sylvanian/Playmobil stuff for DD2. We don't ask the DCs to write specific lists though, so perhaps that makes a difference as they don't have the expectation of getting a set list of gifts? We ask verbally if there is anything specific they really want for Xmas around the start of October, and if there is a particular item then there is always something left in the budget (and time to hunt for a deal). There are never 'big' surprise requests, as if they want it that badly they will have been going on about it for months. It worked the same when I was a child too. The few occasions I wanted a really specific 'big' gift, I got it as DM had time to save and was certain it wasn't a fad choice. Everything else were items DM had chosen because she thought I'd love it (she was right 90% of the time). DCs haven't been disappointed yet 🤷🏻‍♀️

Newdad19 · 19/11/2021 19:08

I'm honestly not sure why this is turning into a debate about whether it's better to buy early or not. Or why so many people felt the need to sarcastically comment how it's only november so of course they have ALL their shopping to do.

This is the Christmas board.
This is a Christmas thread.
As per the OP, the whole point of this thread being started was to share the list of what you had outstanding so we could help each other source bargains/discounts etc - of which a few people already have.

If you don't agree / you don't start til Christmas Eve / you don't care / you think it's stupid to start early then that is absolutely fine! But why are you wasting your time posting on a thread like this? Just leave it for those who actually have started, or want to start, and want to help each other.

OP posts:
CoffeeChocolateWine · 19/11/2021 19:28

I agree with you OP! All these people claiming to have not started and not even thought about it yet, why loiter on a Christmas board where people specifically talk about Christmas and Christmas shopping?! You are clearly not in the right place!

Personally I start my Christmas shopping in September…especially for my 3 DC. I make lists of what I want to buy and wait for a good price. I know what my DC’s interests and hobbies are so I have a pretty good idea of what they’ll love, but I always leave space in my budget for the last minute curve balls they have been known to thrown at me! It works for me. I’m about 80% done.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 19/11/2021 19:31

I’m still after a smallish present for my DF (£20 or so), whisky glasses for DH and sort out photo calendars!

Hetyanni · 19/11/2021 19:47

OK, down to secret Santa notebook and book for dh. Off to waterstones tomorrow, then done! Getting wrapping tonight...

Nidan2Sandan · 19/11/2021 19:55

All stocking gifts, all dh's gifts, my friend, my nephews. I'm probably forgetting someone too

RollingInTheDeepSouth · 19/11/2021 19:59

All of them....I am OF COURSE joking. Christmas is for life Grin

Could anyone give me ideas of interesting food gifts to give? One is for a work colleague who has recently realised how limited her diet was and when we go out for meals now likes to try new things each time. The other is for my DF who likes cooking so could be a kit of some kind.

Also, for DF I'm thinking if making a "hot toddy" hamper, any ideas for what to put in would be good?

Thanks @Newdad19 great thread

Someaddedsugar · 19/11/2021 20:06

I don't have much left to get but do need the following:

  • Patisserie Valerie afternoon tea voucher (gutted that the Buyagift discounts don't work on this specific voucher)
  • Pretty Green voucher - need the card version rather than printout as the card looks nicer despite having an annoyingly high P&P cost
  • Mighty Pups Paw Patrol figures - struggling on this one if anyone happens to have seen anything. Over on the bargain thread someone mentioned B&M but I'm going to struggle to get there without DS coming along so that's possibly not an option right now. Online would be great but there are so many fakes!
  • Hamper type gift for for 80+ relatives (a couple)
  • Home gift for DSis and DBIL - something that can be posted I think? Or ordered direct to them. Last year we got them a candle but not sure for this year!
Someaddedsugar · 19/11/2021 20:06

@RollingInTheDeepSouth what about a Spicery kit - over on the bargain referral thread there will be discount referral codes?

41sunnydays · 19/11/2021 20:09

Every thing - I start in Dec

I second a Spicery kit/subscription!

For hot toddy kit, nice whiskey, posh honey a new mug to drink it in...

FourTeaFallOut · 19/11/2021 20:19

Gifts for dc to get dh, who is the hardest person to buy for, and some bits to go in the kids stockings but other than that I'm done and dusted.
