Would I regret putting my tree up now?

Feeling a bit low due to the dark weather, and wondering if putting up the tree will brighten up the next few weeks a bit.

We have family visiting soon who probably would like the tree.

But, we also have a 9 year old, 2 year old and baby. Will the 9 year old feel sick of tree by xmas? Will the 2 year old break all the baubles? Will I live to regret putting it up so early?

I normally wait until early December.

It's ridiculously early. The 9 year old will have a verrrrry long wait if you let them think it's nearly Xmas.

starsparkle08 · 15/11/2021 18:27

I’d put it up , much rather have it up longer before Christmas . Then like it down Boxing Day or soon after

Yes this is what I was concerned about.

Maybe will find some other nice thing to do and resist temptation! Thanks!

I agree it's too soon for the tree, but what about a few fairy lights to brighten up the dark afternoons?

FireworkParrot · 15/11/2021 18:29

I think it's too early, although do know a couple of people that have their tree up already. I get it, I absolutely love Christmas and am on the Christmas board from summer every year but I think you'll be sick of the sight of it by Christmas. I'd save it for December, it keeps it special then.

FireworkParrot · 15/11/2021 18:30

Oh yes, agree with the fairy lights. I've put a few up in the dining room and also on the mantlepiece since last week and it brightens the dark evenings up a bit.

CactusLemonSpice · 15/11/2021 18:34

Yes maybe I'll just focus on getting the place looking nice and adding some lights and candles, rather than overt decorations. Might be too exciting for the kids and actually stress them out waiting!

I was going to suggest doing some fairy lights etc.

KurtWilde · 15/11/2021 18:36

Ours went up yesterday and it looks bloody lovely and bright and sparkly and joyful.

TurnUpTurnip · 15/11/2021 18:37

I’m holding off I do think it’s too early even though so many seem to be putting them up at the moment, I don’t like the new thing of putting them up pretty much the day after Halloween 😬

BubbleCoffee · 15/11/2021 18:43

If I put the tree up now I'd be sick of it well before Christmas. I'm fed up with the dingy weather as well though. Interested to hear of other ways to brighten up November.

Jumpingintochristmas · 15/11/2021 18:45

I think it’s far too early but each to their own. DD would get too excited and I fear upset at such a long wait. I absolutely love Christmas but enjoy the prep as much as anything else.

After Halloween it’s deep clean - just had the bedrooms decorated - and lots of candles to make the house feel cosy.

We have made our Christmas cake plus another to gift to my parents.

On Sunday I plan to make personalised clay Christmas decorations with DD to gift to friends.

The following weekend DH is taking DD to do her Christmas shopping whilst I abandon them for a friends 50th weekend away Xmas Blush. Home on the 30th, tree up on the 1st December 🎄

plinkplinkfizzer · 15/11/2021 18:49

I don't like to put my tree up too early , they gather dust , it makes me feel icky .

WellTidy · 15/11/2021 18:52

Honestly, I absolutely love Christmas and throw myself into everything Christmas related. But even I wait until December to to put the tree up. Some little lights would be amazing though, I am going to have a rummage for mine now!

BorisKilledMyHusband · 15/11/2021 18:52

Yes

Stompythedinosaur · 15/11/2021 19:15

It isn't hurting anyone, so do what you like!

It is too early for me - I really enjoy putting the tree up in early December with the whole family while playing christmas songs. I don't have that feeling yet.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/11/2021 19:25

If it’ll make you happy, why not, but personally I like to leave it until at least December. Fairy lights would be nice and cheerful, though. We still have some from last Christmas in a huge houseplant - more like a mini tree really. It’s back in the window now but had to be shifted last year to make room for the 🎄. A neighbour asked at least a couple of months ago why we had a Christmas tree up already!

I was going to take the lights down once the clocks changed to summer time, but never got around to it.

Jewel52 · 15/11/2021 19:28

Yes go for fairy lights, indoors, garden the lot. Felt a bit flat this Monday morning and went with fairy lights and candles 🕯 to cheer everywhere up, big hit all round 🤗

CactusLemonSpice · 15/11/2021 19:30

Yeah I think too early for me. Just a moment of madness. Thanks for talking me down!

Some people have them up now and I think why not if they enjoy it!

But I think some tidying, sprucing things up with lights and candles and doing wrapping etc will be nice.

Winter can be gloomy, can't it!

But when the time comes I expect I'll be glad I waited. Getting the kids into a Christmas frenzy mid November may not be ideal!

RosieRoww · 15/11/2021 19:32

Op, if that going to cheer you up, go for it.

I guess kids would like that too, specially the wee one- you can get some plastic non breakable ornaments and let them decorate it.

Honestly I'm so tempted to put out ours, but hubby wants a real one, not an artificial and it's too early for it, it would dry out till Xmas.:/

Onionbhajisandwich · 15/11/2021 19:35

We’ve put our outside lights up but we haven’t done the tree yet. We will do the tree on 27th.

Babdoc · 15/11/2021 19:38

It will be a wilted, needle shedding, brown wreck by Christmas, OP, unless you can keep it really cold and well watered.
Usual timing is to put it up either at the start of Advent, or traditionally on Christmas Eve, to last through the 12 days of Christmas.

Tittyfilarious81 · 15/11/2021 19:40

I'm doing mine this weekend it makes me happy I love having my tree up and other Christmas decorations it helps lift my mood Smile

KurtWilde · 15/11/2021 19:41

So am I the only one here who's already put theirs up?

Nanalisa60 · 15/11/2021 19:45

Yes , if you put it up now, you will want it down on Boxing Day, first weekend in December is the best time for us, but the 1st December is the earliest I have ever put it up. I keep mine up u till the 6th night. November is more the organising and deep clean month in my house , so by the first weekend in December it’s just put the decks up and enjoy.
