What non-cringey Christmas movies can you recommend?

Many people on MN talk about watching their favourite Christmas movies on Christmas Eve or on the day.
I've never really got into this but I'd love to hear your recommendations.
A couple of years ago we watched Die Hard which was fun. When I was much younger I'd watch Breakfast at Tiffany's every year or so. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban seems to get a run every couple of years. Vicar of Dibley Christmas episode is wonderful too though not a film obviously.
But any non-sick making Christmas themed things to watch?

Teatoast00 · 13/11/2021 14:15

The greatest store in the world. We watch every year on xmas eve.. Was a bbc film, but can get on YouTube

CallMeNutribullet · 13/11/2021 14:20

It's a Wonderful Life is the greatest of all time and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise

murasaki · 13/11/2021 14:40

In the corner with you, Nutribullet Wink

But really I'm just placemarking to find any I'd not heard of ... like The Bishop's Wife, which sounds really good

casinoroyale4ever · 13/11/2021 14:42

If anyone has under 7s Curious George Christmas is lovely and Barbie's perfect Christmas is an underrated Christmas masterpiece.

I always thought the Family Stone good and not really high on the ick factor.

goose1964 · 13/11/2021 17:57

If you can find it the nutcracker ballet , it's often on sky arts. My 3 year old grandson was entranced.

TatianaBis · 13/11/2021 18:00

Muppet Christmas Carol
Elf
The Man who invented Christmas
The Family Stone
My favourite is The Spirit of Christmas with Thomas Beaudoin - cheesey but enjoyable
I thought I was going to hate Last Christmas, but it was good fun

Mia184 · 13/11/2021 18:01

We‘re no angels (the version with Humphrey Bogart). I love watching that film on Christmas.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 13/11/2021 18:03

I love The Bishop's Wife. Anything with David Niven in it is worth a watch.

Whitney Houston starred in remake in the 90s called The Preacher's Wife.

Hairwizard · 13/11/2021 18:07

goingback · 13/11/2021 18:31

Four Christmasses
sansucre · 13/11/2021 20:13

Miracle on 34th Street (both versions) are something I watch every Christmas along with Trading Places.

Mulhollandmagoo · 13/11/2021 20:35

Arthur Christmas is really good, and I love the holiday and love actually but I'm not sure if they fall into that category that you're not keen on, but I watch them and cry every Christmas without fail

SmallWaistFatFace · 13/11/2021 20:38

Klaus came out on Netflix last year. It's animated and bloody brilliant. I couldn't believe how good it was.

CathyorClaire · 13/11/2021 20:44

Gremlins

Planes Trains And Automobiles. Thanksgiving so not technically Christmas but move it all along by four week with a bit of poetic licence and it works.

DamnitFanny · 13/11/2021 20:50

I love The Man Who Invented Christmas but just watched Father Christmas is Back on Netflix - awful! Elizabeth Hurley cannot act!

confusionisreal · 13/11/2021 20:52

Klaus is a must watch

Twilight7777 · 13/11/2021 21:27

Deck the halls, 4 christmasses (2008), I prefer the updated version of the bishops wife (the preachers wife with Whitney and denzel), the royale family Christmas episodes, gremlins, national lampoons Christmas vacation, bad Santa (a real favourite of mine the bad language and billy bobs attitude just kills me), krampus, black Christmas. A few Films set at Christmas but not technically Christmas films like ‘while you were sleeping’, just friends, enemy of the state, the night before, the long kiss goodnight (Samuel l Jackson)

Notjustanymum · 13/11/2021 21:30

All the Die Hard movies!
Last Christmas
4 Weddings & a Funeral
Notting Hill
Blizzard of Aaaaaah’s (lots of snow!)

squashyhat · 13/11/2021 21:37

Serendipity

headintheproverbial · 13/11/2021 21:44

Amazed so many people have this wrong. The best Christmas movie of all time is, of course, Home Alone!

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 13/11/2021 21:53

Every year we have to watch :
Die Hard (DH and me only)
muppets Christmas carol (not negotiable)
Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger
Jingle all the way
The Grinch (cartoon version)
Arthur Christmas
Home alone
Elf
and as my username would suggest the BBC adaptation of the box of delights with Patrick Troughton.
Oh yes! Every. Single. Year.

😀
