My living room is pink and grey but I don't want a pink/grey Christmas theme

I can't redecorate.

Would tradional red/green tree and decorations (cushions etc) look weird?

Or any other suggestions for festive colour schemes?

I don't think those colours would match very well.
How about whites and silvers, maybe some glass baubles?

ThePoisonousMushroom · 08/11/2021 20:30

Do people match their Christmas trees to their decor? 😱

saywhatwhatnow · 08/11/2021 20:30

Silver and white?

supadupapupascupa · 08/11/2021 20:30

Blue and silver. Purple and silver. Maybe gold if the grey and pink are warm

I do.

But last year the pink just didn't feel Christmassy enough.

God, just have a Christmas tree, why does it need to match? What is the world coming to? I have a real tree evert year with the baubles and decorations I've had for 25 years plus. The memories connected to each one are part of the specialness of Christmas. When dis this matching nonsense begin? It's just awful.

Puffalicious · 08/11/2021 20:31

I buy a new decoration every year, just the one so it's special.

HappySantasaurus · 08/11/2021 20:32

Agree, there really is no need to match, it will look lovely anyway.

That’s what I thought. Our decorations have been collected over years and years. Some were given to us, some picked by the children (they pick a new bauble each every year). I can’t imagine thinking ‘oh well they don’t go with my decor so I’ll get rid of them and buy a complete set of news ones that match’. Genuinely a bit mind blown 🤯
spondoolikay · 08/11/2021 20:33

I think I agree on matching. Christmas trees are just objectively beautiful and ornamental and it really doesn't matter if it doesn't match. I have a very clean scandi living room but the tree just adds sparkle and colour and beauty at Christmas.

ShowOfHands · 08/11/2021 20:34

I suppose each to their own but like pp, I have a real tree and decorations with wonderful memories attached. I've bought the DC one each year for them to take when they move out and they've gone for pure whimsy with narwhals and sloths and similar. I have my Granny's Victorian glass baubles, decs from important family holidays, ones my DC have made and I treasure and so on.

They don't match the paint on our walls but they do match our lives I suppose.

qualitygirl · 08/11/2021 20:35

What about navy, silver and pink?

KrispyKale · 08/11/2021 20:36

Silver and green with burgundy accents.

Gladioli23 · 08/11/2021 20:37

I'm not really a matching kind of girl, but if that's what you want I think I would go for:

Whites, silvers and I think reds would be fine with pink as well? You could also use neutral coloured wooden decorations?

Will you only have one or two colours on your tree? Mine has a real mixture so I don't think things do or don't go in the same way compared to if the whole tree was solely white or whatever.

AdaColeman · 08/11/2021 20:38

Silver & purple for the tree would match pink & grey.

KrispyKale · 08/11/2021 20:39

We have a right old mix but split decorations between two rooms and have a rough colour scheme: one's red and gold the other's silver with everything else and ends up looking a bit more pastel.

MintyCedric · 08/11/2021 20:39

How about silver/white and a mixture of pastels?

I love @qualitygirl suggestion of adding navy too.

Bizarre, isn't it?
Underthestairsbears · 08/11/2021 20:40

We have a grey room with bits of mauve and although we have a mixture of red/white/wooden decorations on the tree it still looks good. We do have a snow tipped tree though, which seems to help.

TrevorFountain · 08/11/2021 20:44

Teal is very popular on the Call the Midwide Christmas episodes. So you could leave the walls as they are, and dress your tree in teal lights and tinsel, decorated with little midwife and nun ornaments, maybe a small policeman and an arkela.

BakewellGin1 · 08/11/2021 20:44

My tree is usually reds and holds but having decorated and my room is now predominantly blush pink, silver and painted in elephants breath (a grey ish brown Confused) I've decided I'm changing to blush pink, silver and green on my tree with a mix of DC baubles added... So it will partly match Grin

I know, my mind is blown!

I've used the same (growing) collection of decorations for nearly 2 decades. I've had various colour walls in that period, it's never been an issue.

This must be the new meaning of Christmas: Climate crisis and consumption

Bluntness100 · 08/11/2021 20:48

I’d honestly not match it op but you can blend, so siliver, bronzes, etc will all work

Personally I think the Xmas tree doesn’t need to match the decor, my tree is usually red and gold. I have no red and gold in my living room, it’s cream green and mink.

RainCloude · 08/11/2021 20:48

Where would one find navy Christmas tree decorations though? Sounds a bit odd
