Board Game to bring the family together

BaconAndAvocado · 31/10/2021 19:28

DCs are 13 and 15 and really don't like being in each other's company these days!

I'm hoping that I can find a game they they'll be so interested in that the bickering will cease.
(Yes I know it's a long shot but miracles do happen).

Anyone got a recommendation for a good board game for 5+ people that's good for teens?

MNHQ Update
This thread is a little out of date now, but if you've landed here while on the lookout for good family board games, our guide to the best family board games has been recently updated to reflect current availability. It includes a wide range of fun options suitable for kids (and adults!) of all ages. We hope it's helpful! Flowers

Rummikub is great fun. Mix of luck and skill
Also Exploding Kittens is fun

What about a collaborative one like pandemic, flashpoint or forbidden island

PiddleOfPuppies · 31/10/2021 19:35

Forbidden Island is a nice cooperative game where you have to pull together to win. We enjoy Clank, Azul and Carcassonne with our teens and even the grumpiest of them will play a game of Ticket to Ride.

BelfastSmile · 31/10/2021 19:39

Ticket To Ride is definitely an essential board game these days!

And I agree about co-operative games; they require lots of talking to each other and working things out. Pandemic is great, but it can be a little bit difficult to get to grips with (not massively, but an impatient teen might not stick with it). Castle Panic is a very good co-op game. If they like Harry Potter there's one called Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle which is great too.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, fun and short

Legoisthebest · 31/10/2021 19:42

Not Monopoly. Or to give it's proper name Grin

The smell one is good. (Can't remember it's name!)

pompomsgalore · 31/10/2021 19:53

Not a board game but Just one is a fab game that my teen enjoys playing.
Also have look at Spyfall

BaconAndAvocado · 31/10/2021 20:14

Ticket to Ride doesn't look that enticing to be honest but the reviews are excellent!

Cards games like Uno, Dobble, exploding kittens, cat catastrophe, love letters, Flux.

RitaTheBeater · 31/10/2021 20:17

We got Taskmaster in lockdown and my teenagers absolutely loved it. Playing it in your own house with your own family is probably the only way to do it.

toots111 · 31/10/2021 20:17

Code names and Spicy (bluffing card game) are both less kids games more grown up games which I think teenagers would like. Code names is good because you can play kids vs adults which I think they’d like.

toots111 · 31/10/2021 20:19

Ps spicy is not rude! Not that kind of spicy Grin

clopper · 31/10/2021 20:20

Rhino hero super battle, just one game, uno flip and Pictionary are all great games.

myrtleWilson · 31/10/2021 20:22

Pandemic as others have said is a good cooperative game. We also like Dominion, Seven Wonders amongst others - Shut Up and Sit Down is a good site for board game reviews..

Echobelly · 31/10/2021 20:25

Throw Throw Burrito
Cards Against Humanity Family Edition (might be a bit old for it, but then probably still a bit young for adult version!)

verymiddleaged · 31/10/2021 20:35

We got Ticket to ride on our last holiday and both teens( even the reluctant board game player) enjoyed it.
Taco v Burrito is easy and quite fun.

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 31/10/2021 20:36

We like Scrawl, bit like Pictionary but better as you are all busy in every round. Make sure you buy this general version rather than the Adult version

BaconAndAvocado · 01/11/2021 09:13

We play Uno and other general card games like Rummy and Sevens.

Scrawl looks good too!

Articulate is the best board game we've played. You play in teams and is such a great laugh. Can get quite intense too.

BonnesVacances · 01/11/2021 18:29

Pictionary Air is on Amazon for a tenner in their deals. They'd probably like that as it involves a bit of tech setting it up on the tv.

Mosky · 01/11/2021 19:22

Ticket to Ride is our all time family favourite. DC grown up now but it has been played every Christmas since they were early teens. We have a few versions.
