Would he have use for sticky tape, glue, pens, stapler etc. Last year I got fed up of dp moaning about not having paper clips etc that I went and raided the stationary shop!

This year the whisk and serving spoon are on their last legs and we don't have a spaghetti server so guess what is going to be in his stocking!

RBH · 09/12/2007 18:20

Try here too. Good luck!

JingleyJen · 09/12/2007 18:20

Thanks for the link - I have found some great things on there for Dh I was getting really stuck!
F&Z hoope you find some stuff on there too!

ja9ladiesdancing · 09/12/2007 18:21

food can be interesting though'...

this yr all adults at my house will be getting a fancy jar of chutney / preserve. a little bottle of vino and a 'fancy' fruity alcohol bought at a craft fair... oh and nice sweeties too.

what about a keyring with a pic of los, or one of those keyrings that has a £1 shaped token for supermarket trolleys? (keyrings with purpose lol)

smellies? nice deodorants / face balms? razor blades? magazine?

WHEELYbahhumBUG · 09/12/2007 18:21

Well if he's going to be fussy ()give him these www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B000NPI8BK/sr=1-19/qid=1197224391/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&node=429660 30&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=fairtrade&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=n%3A42966030%2Ck%3Afairtrade&page=3 .

M&S also have some fairtrade boring plain t-shirts if thats his thing.

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 18:23

lump of coal?

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 18:23

LOL at tea towels

they have sold out of the fair trade socks in his size, I went in to check

these links are great, thank you

he just has not much use for 'stuff' - I did buy a little stationery set last year and ds nicked it!

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 18:24

oh fuck, no, sorry, fossil fuels

pair of fair-traded authentic yak-spit and sherpa's-nosehair socks?

WHEELYbahhumBUG · 09/12/2007 18:24

HOw about some packets of veg seeds ?

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 18:24

oh he has beard, doesn't use toiletries (well only essentials eg shower gel)

magazine a good idea

yes he does like food things very much and I usually get loads, I juist thought it would be nice to get a more varied stocking for once

thank you all

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 18:25

veg seeds good

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 18:25

fuckinell, socks have already been suggested!

I would just belligerently buy something really weird, like a quill pen or an ant farm or something. I did give dh a bar of soap one year, it had "arse" on one side and "face" on the other, to avoid any confusion

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 18:27

I have bought him socks already

and pants (revoltingly called "Ethikeks" which makes me want to heave")

OP posts:
tassisssss · 09/12/2007 19:55

mine's getting running gloves

a new wallet

socks

sweets

a mag

and the obligatory stationary item (probably those teeny post-it things for marking pages)

and the other obligatory thing is the gadget - this year some teeny screwdriver set which is great as we can nver find small screwdrivers for getting batteries into kids toys

usually get something for the car - one of those leather buffers or new scraper - and as we've recently (unethically!) become a 2 car family I reckon we'll need more of these

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 19:57

ugh, "kecks" puts me in mind of shit and skidmarks

how about a dream catcher?

80sMum · 09/12/2007 19:58

I wouldn't get him anything! Isn't he an adult? Why does he want a present from you?

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 20:00

does he like playing cards/chess/other geeky type game stuff? Mine is getting at least one really unusual set of cards, because he's obsessed with this elite card game in which you have to infer the basic rules without being told them, and then gradually get to introduce new rules which the other players have to infer.... having loads of different decks of cards makes it more fun because you can tailor new rules to them [waffle]

would he like poncy tea, or a really nice fountain pen, or music of some kind?

TooTickyDoves · 09/12/2007 20:00

Nice mug/mousemat/coaster/jigsaw/keyring with pic of ds on it

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 20:01

80smum, you are joking, aren't you, about not giving gifts to adults?

WhenAChildIsBored · 09/12/2007 20:02

I have seen some really cool executive toys I wouldn't mind someone buying me... there's one of those magnetic sculpture kits where the magnetic bits are all butterflies....and a "finger football" kit with a tiny ball/goalie nets, with little footie socked/booted feet that fit on the ends of your fingers

80sMum · 09/12/2007 20:07

Not joking, no. I hate the way the whole commercialism thing takes over at Christmas and people feel that for some reason the 'have to' buy presents for people. I can understand children loving surprises and I do buy for children that I know, but after they're 18 that's it - no more presents!

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 20:35

god I don't feel I have to buy him a present - I want to! I love him and it is very exciting for us to have stockings and surprises. What a grim view of presents for your spouse.

Greeny your ideas are fab but I am about to stomp on every one of them. He doesn't like any of that executive toy stuff - a dream catcher I am LOL at the idea of his face presented with one of those - not a card player - gets all music he wants off the internet

oh I once got him a Zen garden in a box and that was a BIG hit but only because it was so 'him'. A little tiny orderly pebbly garden that you can put away in a box with nothing growing in, and a rake to make patterns in it. Some kind of metaphor for his soul I think

TooT now WHERE would I get something like that from? Hmmmm

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 20:36
