Nice framed photo of you and the dc for his desk at work?

Don't say it's naff...probably is.. cos dh is getting one from us. Still, he can always draw a moustache on me in the photo - I'll never know cos I don't visit his work much.

Magazine subscriptions always go down well. I wish someone would buy one for me - I keep giving them as presents to everyone else!

janeite · 09/12/2007 20:42

An allotment?

Monthly box from Abel and Cole, or similar?

Bonsai tree?

Bag of compost?

Organic wine?

Posh coffee?

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 20:50

omg a bonsai tree yes yes

these are just things to go in his stocking though - I have a detailed list of things he would like for his other presents

a framed photo a nice idea

unfortunately I look like a very tired goat with stringy hair right now

he struggles with magazines, can never quite find one he likes

Funny you should mention it Franny, I might just know of somewhere...

FourPlusOne · 09/12/2007 20:55

Like the links. I was stuck for stocking fillers for DH too. Have got him a main present (tickets to some crappy band that he really wants to see - got 2 so I have to endure it too - must be love !). Was quite expensive though so have to pad out stocking with lots of fillers. Was going to do food as well. Useful and bulky . He likes eco/ethical things too so think I'll go with some of the ideas here. He's got a stocking that is absolutely huge. I bought it for him for our first Christmas together when we were all loved up and childless and I had the time and money to fill it up! Looks pathetic half full though so I keep having to get big things for him.

morocco · 09/12/2007 20:58

i can't believe all this goes on!!! our house would be a miserable affair for you lot, I'm banning anyone buying me anything this year and going very minimalist with all the adults presents. dh reckons I'm being miserable but I really didn't realise some other people go to all this trouble. maybe he's always pined for a stocking>? must go and ask him.
so I'm guessing the answer is no, but I just wondered if in fact your dh would like nothing? I get so stressed out over crap and commercial rubbish, I really really do wish people would not give me any.

janeite · 09/12/2007 21:01

Lol - I forgot it had to fit in a stocking sorry!

Okay - put a picture of a bonsai tree in his stocking and hide the real one somewhere, with clues for him to find it. Make it hard, then he'll take so long hunting that he'll forget there's nothing else in his stocking!

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:04

morocco it is a very good question, i shall ask him

he does definitely like having big presents and got quite upset this year when I suggested we ask my parents to buy us a composter instead of things for ourselves specifically

we don't tend to spend a huge amount on very personal leisure and entertainment stuff during the year, and spend most of our money on things for us as a family, so for us this is a time of year to be indulgent and get things that you really want but wouldn't normally buy

he has quite a long list of things he wants, don't fret, but maybe he would rather not have a stocking?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:08

no he says he DOES want a stocking

(he then said something very patronising about he only objected to disposable tat and I had done "quite well" at not doing that lately don't worry I will put spiky toys in his side of the bed later)

he says he likes food things (yes I know and so does everyone else who looks at your fine physique HAH )

Has nobody said sex vouchers yet? free, personalised, eco friendly, maybe not THAT ethical but always gratefully recieved!

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:22

I am 10 weeks pg you have got to be joking

Bewilderbeast · 09/12/2007 21:24

what about an oxfam unwrapped gift? I have given little stocking filler sized gifts (like school meals for 100 kids cost about £6) to people. They are always appreciated and you can add a bar of fair trade choc for the recipient too.

hatwoman · 09/12/2007 21:26

a solar powered phone charger?

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:27

yes good one I have on my list and one for ds as well (who doesn't totally get it but always tries to arrange face into "yes I see" expression")

I can highly recommend this if your DH likes a bit of spice to his food. They also do a lemon pepper one but I've not tried that.

I bought DP the one in the link and he loves it. Its great as its in a grinder/mill.

hatwoman · 09/12/2007 21:28

an onya bag. very cheap and brilliant - I have one and I carry it everywhere - and have cut my bag consumption by shed loads. everyone comments on it too. I love it.

BettySpaghetti · 09/12/2007 21:30

wind up torch with phone charger from Woolworths -half price at the moment (a bargain at £7)

hatwoman · 09/12/2007 21:30

it's difficul to tell form teh website - but the pouch they pack into is about 2-3 inches by 1-2. and weighs nothing

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:31

ooh thank you thank you

we are really rolling now

sorry the comment about not getting it was about the Oxfam unwrapped vouchers

do phone chargers cost much?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:33

sorry I have seen the torch / charger link now - he has wind up torch (was v funny at festival this year, all you could hear all night in the tent was "scccccrh whirrrr whirrrrr whirrrrrrrr" of people walking past winding their torches

OP posts:
BettySpaghetti · 09/12/2007 21:33

Do you mean the wind up phone charger/torch in my link?? Only £7

hatwoman · 09/12/2007 21:33

I looked into them today (google solar phone charger and you get loads) they can cost anything form £15 to the best part of a £100. I posted on here actually to see if anyone had got one. It's difficult to know how good they'd be.

BettySpaghetti · 09/12/2007 21:34

aah, OK -will continue to think

FrannyandZooey · 09/12/2007 21:35

£15 for something that might not be great is quite a lot, isn't it? hmm good idea though

OP posts:
hatwoman · 09/12/2007 21:36

yeah - sorry I can't personally vouch for them! I can vouch for the bag though.
