Still on the hunt for a Christmas/Winter candle or wax melt

Spent a fortune on the White Company Winter candles and reed diffusers last year. I still feel cheated. They smelt of nothing.

Any suggestions on what to try next? Yankee Candles are the same as the White Company. I don’t want the house overly fragranced but the whiff of something Christmassy would be lovely!

Try TK Maxx. I've just bought an enormous pumpkin spice one@ £16.99.
They have halloween candles at the moment but Christmas ones will be in soon.
Great value and lots of soy ones, so not sooty.

PS I always buy WC Winter and love it. I use the diffuser reeds too.

I bought a gorgeous Christmas Tree scented one last year from Lidl, of all places. It was about a fiver for a huge jar and it smelled divine. I've not been in there for a while but I imagine they'll probably have the same ones this year.

The Neom Xmas candles are gorgeous, but mad expensive

I don’t know if I got a bad batch but I expected to walk through the house and smell something but it was just nothing. I burned them and had the diffuser out and asked friends to tell me what they could smell. They said nothing too.

Homesense or Home bargains have the best Christmas candles. Just go in and have a sniff. I had a lovely HB gingerbread one that was gorgeous and lasted ages.

NotMyCat · 03/10/2021 17:27

Botanical candle company. They do wax melts and candles and three different Christmas scents which are all gorgeous, you can get a set of 3

Are you after something cheap ?

If not then I love dyptique ones

NotMyCat · 03/10/2021 17:29

To add
First light is like refreshing eucalyptus
Half light is is orange spices
Last light is cinnamon/nutmeg so probably most traditional

I buy a lot from them (and not sponsored!!)

Try marks and Spencers. Absolutely lovely. Can't remember the name but their candles burn well.

JellyTots2009 · 03/10/2021 17:33

I know you said you didn't want Yankee candle BUT they do a 'Christmas cookie' smell that is Devine.
I could definitely smell it through out the house after a while

garlicandsapphires · 03/10/2021 17:36

St Evals have some lovely xmassy ones

MintJulia · 03/10/2021 17:39

You could search on beeswax church candles. They smell deliciously of honey and don't use palm oil so much better for the environment. Quite apart from being beautiful Smile

Couchto5ktowine · 03/10/2021 17:40

Second St Eval and for Xmas in particular go for Inspiritus. So nice!

Toastytoads · 03/10/2021 17:40

Home bargains Gingerbread x

12BottlesOfVintageChampagne · 03/10/2021 17:47

Third for St Eval - Inspiritus and Rosemary & Bay are my seasonal go-to

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/10/2021 20:11

I fell out of love with Yankee Candles a while back , they smelled more wax crayon thab scent -even my favourite Sparkling Cinnamon Xmas Sad

Now we have cats I use an electric burner , some water and some Neales Yard oils . Cinnamon oil and either Mandarin or Clementine Oil .
Don't let it burn dry though .

Mufflette · 03/10/2021 20:18

I had a gorgeous one from Tiger & Co last year, think it was their Christingle one.

LockdownCheeseToastie · 03/10/2021 20:22

St eval figgy pudding is lovely and not too strongly spicy as many Christmas candles are. Ordered an apple strudel candle from an Etsy seller which I’m looking forward to. Also got a fab Halloween scented one from tk maxx in August.

Umbongoumbongo999 · 03/10/2021 20:26

Skandinavisk skog is wonderfully Christmassy. The scent really lingers and you can smell the candle even when it isnt burning. I can't wait to get a new one going in December.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 03/10/2021 20:26

@escapeyou so glad you mentioned about the WC Winter batch last year!! My diffuser smelt of nothing!!! Like you couldn't even tell it was there.

The candle wasn't much better...you had to be sat right next to it whilst lit. Otherwise it didn't have any noticeable smell.

I think I'll just buy the Winter oil and use a diffuser this year. Hope it works, as it's my favourite Christmas smell

impressivelycunty · 03/10/2021 20:33

Jo Loves Christmas Trees or Log Fires.

Cherryrainbow · 03/10/2021 20:39

I vouch for home bargains ones too, the gingerbread ones are so lush. They did a wax melt set last year which I invested in x

TSSDNCOP · 03/10/2021 20:42

I'm sorry that your WC weren't good. I have the oils in a electric diffuser and it's heavenly and MUCH cheaper. DS (14) says it smells like Christmas. Praise indeed.

HelplessAndLost · 03/10/2021 20:46

Neom Christmas Wish is lovely, smells like mince pies.
Also, Fireside by Woodwick Candles is really nice.
