The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater: Read Along Thread

Here we go people! Smile

I thought we could start reading the Introduction from October 15th at a gentle pace to allow people to join the thread. Then all set for Chapter 1 on November 1st.

The Christmas Chronicles is currently just over £20 on Amazon. Maybe people could share all the options for those who are just joining us, who still want to get a copy.

I'm hoping this thread will be a lovely, gentle, uplifting transition into the Christmas period where we can share our thoughts, recipe attempts and inspiration from Nigel x

Placemarking.
I have dd's 18th party tomorrow and the following days herald me starting my Christmas prep, throwing myself into the Poncetastic thread and getting my cookbooks down from the shelf. Lovely to have another lovely cozy thread to follow.

Artdecolover · 01/10/2021 18:10

My copy is arriving tomorrow!

FireworkParrot · 01/10/2021 18:15

Hello all, I'm ready and waiting. My copy is sat on my bookcase looking at me. I would also love to see photos of anything people cook!

I'm so ready for this. I turned the heating on yesterday for the first time since early this year and just want to curl up under a blanket with this book and a glass of red.

FiloFaxx · 01/10/2021 18:18

Joining! Also going to look in WH Smith tomorrow while I'm in town to see if I can grab a copy for my mum Smile

HoHoJ0 · 01/10/2021 18:54

Ooo @Haywire maybe you could tell us the page number of your favourite recipe? I’m not sure I’ll be cooking along too much but I’d love to try a few of the highly recommended recipes as we go

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 01/10/2021 19:54

Oh can I join, I got it last Christmas and completely forgot about it - god knows how as we were all practically stuck in for months!

picklemewalnuts · 01/10/2021 20:14

Ooh, lovely idea! Can't quite imagine what it's like- bought it when recommended on here, but not opened it yet.

Haywire · 01/10/2021 20:35

@HoHoJ0 it's called Toasted mincemeat sandwich p99. You essentially take two circles of panettone, sandwich some mincemeat inside them, butter the outside then toast the whole thing in a frying pan like a giant mice pie toastie. Slice up into triangles and dustwith icing sugar with ice cream. It's just heavenly; Nigel explains it far more eloquently of course.

Dear God that sounds bloody lovely 🎄

Hi 👋🏼

I'll be reading and cooking along. I love this book! Going to treat MIL to a copy this year as I think she'll enjoy it too

queenrollo · 02/10/2021 08:28

Joining the thread in wonderful anticipation. I bought the book a couple of years ago and then it got put on the shelf and I never even looked inside! I promised myself no peeking - then forgot all about it!
I have liberated it from the shelf and am really looking forward to reading along with you all.

mamiofboys · 02/10/2021 11:57

I've been patiently waiting for October! Only a couple more weeks and we can get started :)

legosunqueen · 02/10/2021 12:00

@Haywire that looks great, I've just ordered it too - thanks for flagging it Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2021 13:14

I couldn't find the reduced copy in WHS. Xmas Sad Likely because I had DS(7) with me, charting nineteen to the dozen, which does nothing for my concentration skills!

Littlegoth · 02/10/2021 14:18

Oooh! I get mine a week in (birthday present)

Gingertam · 02/10/2021 17:47

The Christimas Chronicles by Nigel Slater is not £9 in W H Smith. That's a different Christmas Chronicles! The Nigel Slater one is £20 in W H Smith. Just trying to save anyone a wasted journey.

dementedma · 02/10/2021 17:51

Had a copy for a few years and am ready to roll

Ginandpyjamas · 02/10/2021 18:42

Ooh exciting!! I read the CC for the first time last year and actually made the Christmas cake…bit of a wrench changing from Saint Delia but there is no going back now! Nigel all the way…🙈

FreezerBird · 02/10/2021 19:04

My copy arrived earlier this week. I've got DH to hide it from me until November.

It was definitely £9 last week, they must have ended the offer now Christmas is getting nearer.
FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/10/2021 19:19

This has been sat in my TBR shelf for a couple of years so I am in

EerilyDisembodied · 02/10/2021 19:27

Signing up too, this will be my third year of reading it, it lives in the kitchen through the winter months. I loved listening to the podcasts last year too.

snowspider · 02/10/2021 19:56

it's 16.59 on world of books

I got it for £9 today at WH Smith for my mum! There was only two copies on the shelf though and he was on a bottom shelf!
