Here we go people! Smile

I thought we could start reading the Introduction from October 15th at a gentle pace to allow people to join the thread. Then all set for Chapter 1 on November 1st.

The Christmas Chronicles is currently just over £20 on Amazon. Maybe people could share all the options for those who are just joining us, who still want to get a copy.

I'm hoping this thread will be a lovely, gentle, uplifting transition into the Christmas period where we can share our thoughts, recipe attempts and inspiration from Nigel x

Can someone please test the marmalade sausages please? I don't want to ruin perfectly good (veggie) sausage and I am dubious about the combination 🤔

Dillidilly · 18/11/2021 17:11

Thank you for all the nice comments... you are all bringing me huge joy too!

I'm having such problems viewing MN on my phone, it just freezes. At the moment I'm using the app, but hate the lay out, etc.

@LaChatte - I've certainly used honey to glaze sausages before if that helps - I think it's just a variation on that. My bigger concern with that recipe is the chipolatae drying out - browning, then heating in the oven, then roasting in the batter for 25 mins. That's a fair bit of cooking even for a full sized sausage. Also I'd be concerned about the marmalade burning as the Yorkshires cook. But I haven't tried it so can't confirm.

Seeing as I'm among my people here, has anyone spotted whether Aldi are doing their sloe gin again this year? It seems very difficult to come by the stuff.

LaChatte · 18/11/2021 18:25

I've put honey with sausages before, it was lovely. Mamalade just seems a step too far for my French palate.

GlumyGloomer · 18/11/2021 19:35

Panettone (a cheap one) and mincemeat now on the shopping order Grin. I thought about making my own mincemeat but after the apricote debacle I decided not to risk it. Envious of everyone who did, I bet it's amazing.
I'm not doing many of the recipes, mostly due to the assortment of fussy eaters I live with, but I'm enjoying the read along none the less.

@footchewer if there’s going to be a drink along I’m going to have to make a batch!

herecomesthsun · 18/11/2021 20:48

Hey, I think you can get the sloe gin delivered

I did the sausages a couple of weeks ago and they were gorgeous. The cranberries were excellent in it

FireworkParrot · 18/11/2021 22:21

I've done sausages in honey and a bit of soy sauce before and they're lovely. I think marmalade could work too but I think marmalade and cranberries with the sausages may be a step too far for me. I do like the sound of thyme in the batter though....

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 18/11/2021 22:31

@Dillidilly we will be needing a new thread soon.
Who’d have thunk it? Xmas Grin Wine

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 18/11/2021 22:57

I’d like to make the sausages with marmalade but we don’t have any and as DH is going to make some any day now I don’t want to buy a jar. I’ll put it on the menu for after the marmalade’s been made. I think we’ll like it given that it works well glazed on a ham. But I’ll omit the cranberries, I think, because we’ve just had my take on Nigel’s stuffing balls which I made with minced pork and sage & onion stuffing mix. Forgot to post a photo of that, actually. I made double the quantity of sauce for it, plus quick roasted potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts and gravy. It was basically a mini Christmas dinner! Xmas Grin

Argh I didn't make any of the booze this year but if we're going to do a drinkalong I'm going to have to! Will probably opt for apricot, as it's the only one I haven't tried.

P.s. new thread?

Dillidilly · 19/11/2021 01:17

I have started our new thread, but am having such problems with the site so please could someone link it here for me?
