What’s everyone getting for their teenage boys? I won’t put an age on it as I need any and all ideas! Anyone have any ideas that aren’t clothes/trainers?

Cheap flights somewhere. Tickets to a concert.

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/09/2021 07:44

Tricky teen here too. Not sporty, enjoys computer games but doesn't really need or want anything new just now, and isn't into clothes/trainers at all.

He does need a new phone which is easy enough but I'm struggling for smaller presents to bulk things our w bit under the tree and also for the numerous request that will come in from family.

So far I've thought of

You don't driver lessons
New onesie
Nice hoodie (while not into clothes does like a cosy hoodie and is growing out of current ones)
Board game (we always do one - carcassone this year)
Hamper of American sweets
Cinema/bowling gift card
Apple tag
Books
Phone case

Not for us this year but some other ideas:
Velvetiser hot chocolate maker
Large lego set (a big Star Wars or HP diagon alley or stranger things)
VR headset
Power bank
Amazon echo device/Apple pod mini
Hue colour changing bulb

Keeping an eye out for other ideas though!

JaninesEyePatch · 23/09/2021 08:59

Wireless headphones
Echo Dot
Young driver lessons
Vouchers?
I'm a bit stuck

BonnesVacances · 23/09/2021 09:08

We're buying DS a weekend bag. It's what I buy all 17 year olds, male or female, in preparation for uni, overnight stays with mates, first weekend away with girlfriend/boyfriend. I just think it's a grown up present and something you always need through life.

Otherwise, rechargeable battery pack, charging leads, AirPods, Costa/Nando's gift card all go down well.

EvilPea · 23/09/2021 09:12

Charger set, so nice phone charger lead
Power bank in a bag together, maybe with nice headphones.

Govee strip led lights (work with an app)

Alarm clock

Shower radio

Nice pens and stationery

Socks. Lots of socks!

Ideas that have been popular before:
Popcorn machine with all the gubbins
Aldi milk warmer and frother for hot chocolate
Amazon do some remote control waterproof tea light, lights.
An IKEA pegboard with accessories
Pet wifi camera
Terrarium kit

SolitaryTree · 23/09/2021 09:28

My eldest is super easy, wants a new graphics card for his PC build so will buy a decently sourced second hand one and then a few extras. Maybe a few items of branded clothing I know he’ll like, a couple of books and maybe a few novelty display bits relating to his interests.
My youngest is harder, not much he ever asks for or wants. All I know that I’ll be getting him so far is a voucher for his favourite place of entertainment!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 23/09/2021 09:58

My young teen is pretty straightforward because he has a few hobbies and there are always things related to them that he wants. My ideas list looks like this at the mo
Football shirt
Football shorts
FIFA 22
Cricket bat
Cricket bag
Guitar tool kit and guide
Guitar pedal
V8 model kit or similar
Fake oodie
Echo dot
Slush ice maker and syrups
Nice pen set
School rucksack
Toiletries
Coloured hair gels
Set of books
Nice coffee table-type book…probably history related but not sure yet
He’ll no doubt ask for some gaming stuff nearer the time.
Gift cards for clothes/food/gaming.
He’s got a birthday before Christmas too so this is a combined list (but he won’t get all!)

A Fitbit is a great gift…DS loves his.

MoMuntervary · 23/09/2021 10:13

@SolitaryTree mine also wants to build a pc. Any thoughts about where to source decent secondhand stuff (he originally thought it was reasonable to ask for £800+ worth of brand new kit Shock)

Saladovercrispsanyday · 23/09/2021 10:15

Where’s good for fake oodie?

LookAtMoiPloise · 23/09/2021 10:18

Portable Charger
Restaurant/Clothes Voucher
Mini fridge for bedroom
Aftershave
Food hamper

SparklingLime · 23/09/2021 10:21

Do teens use memory sticks any more?

SolitaryTree · 23/09/2021 10:31

@MoMuntervary he was very kindly gifted a graphics card that was no longer needed by a friends parent a couple of years ago so built his pc around that initially.
That is probably one of the most pricey parts.
I bought the parts for the pc build for him last Christmas and it was very expensive. Around £450! 😱 but he did choose the parts and I probably could have done it cheaper if I didn’t let him pick the parts himself.
The graphics card he wants to upgrade to this year is very expensive too. More than the cost of the whole of last years build so I am going to source one from a second hand electronics shop which I’ve already enquired will knock nearly half the cost off!
I’d try local computer shops and also places like cex.
It’s an expensive hobby and there’s not a super cheap way around it unfortunately but he doesn’t ask for much else, he looks after his things very well and in my opinion deserves it.

@Saladovercrispsanyday I got both of mine an “oodie” and a weighted blanket each last winter for a very reasonable price from a company called Kidd.ly. Not sure how much they charge at the moment though!
