On holiday in a barn conversion with foot thick walls - great at keeping everywhere cool when it's hot and warm when it's cold. It also keeps out most of the internet so I'm getting in quick while the young ones are still in bed and not yet sucking up all the signal.

Anyway, greetings from sunny Norfolk.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 03/08/2021 09:06

Sorry fluffy I am here!

Definite autumnal feel in the air this morning.

Cinema and Harvester date with DS today. Loved doing those pre Covid so very excited.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/08/2021 09:24

My inlaws are kindly suffering kids' films taking the children to the cinema during the summer holidays!

I don't have that autumnal feel yet, but I do love how it creeps in as August goes along!

I think Crazy is away too. We're away at the end of the month.

Oh, but what I have noticed is the angle of sunlight changing in the garden in the morning, which shows autumn is coming!

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 03/08/2021 09:33

It is the chill in the air in the morning for me and the fact that it doesn't start to warm up until after 9.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/08/2021 09:40

I haven't been outside to notice! 😁 It was Sainsbury's delivery today, so I had to sort and clean the fridge drawer prior plus I got up late again so had less time to get shit done!.

The light is definitely changing in my opinion. It seems more golden in the morning and in the evening.

I'm starting to think about soaking the fruit for my cakes - I'll buy it in the next couple of weeks and start it off once DS goes back to school in September.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 03/08/2021 10:42

Hi I am here waves at everyone yesterday was so busy it was ridiculous, I will be going back to work for a rest tomorrow the way things are going. I tried to get a Dr's call back for my son this morning (I deal with his medical shiz as he won't/can't) and I could not get through so will have to drop a note in later.

WreckTangled · 03/08/2021 11:24

Dd got given a school skirt for next year but it's too small. Just looked to buy one and they're £40 😩😩😩 ffs how can they get away with charging so much?

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 03/08/2021 11:32

That is a ridiculous price Wreck.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/08/2021 12:02

That is insanity. What are secondary schools up to these days, it was never like that in my day. It's like state schools want to compete with private schools for uniform ridiculousness.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 03/08/2021 12:09

It's ridiculous isn't it? I'm so cross about it. We can just about afford it but plenty won't be able to. The high school in the nearest city requests a skirt that's £22.50 which is more reasonable.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/08/2021 12:25

I don't think they should request anything other than a colour, personally.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 03/08/2021 12:36

The things we have to have from the school uniform shop add up to £173. Strangely the blazer is cheaper than the skirt! I hate uniforms.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/08/2021 12:44

When did state schools change? Our uniform wasn't so prescriptive / expensive.

@TheWoollybacksWife, what was BS' uniform policy like when your DDs went? Did they have silly notions of grandeur by then?

Evening 😹
MIA due to period from hell again but it seems to have stopped in it's tracks - I'm not complaining! Well, not now anyway.
Wreck it's odd with school uniform, there are some locally that just have "navy skirt/trousers and blazer" (ditto black) and a couple of others that have some weird tartan like we've moved to Scotland and fancy blouses with embroidered blazers, which also means they're not allowed a coat!
There should be a law that one full week of school uniform should be £50 (2x bottom half and 5x top half) + PE kit. The kids are there to learn, not dress in some poncy crap.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/08/2021 12:50

Your period passed to me, Puss. Thankfully it's not as bad as yours, just unexpected and unwelcome!

I agree the the uniform. It's nonsense.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 03/08/2021 12:51

Yes our school is in the latter with the silly tartan skirts and blazers etc. Plus £7 pe socks Hmm

pussycatlickinglollyices · 03/08/2021 13:11

Can you find some cheapo ones in the same colour? I remember having some mahoosive black itchy nylon fuckers that were thigh length were worn a couple of times. They hurt. I ended up with trainers 2 sizes too big and 2 pairs or normal socks under the "elephant man" ones which were designed for someone with pipe cleaners for legs.
I had a turning circle like an articulated lorry in those trainers!
Admittedly I wasn't the most active pupil 🥱 but I did do the cross country a couple of times me n my mates walked it once we left school grounds the first time, the second I went home for an early lunch and I enjoyed playing hockey. although giving me a hockey stick might not have been a wise decision...🤕
🙃

WreckTangled · 03/08/2021 13:27

No they have to have the logo on Hmm £14 for two shirts too, the only other place that does them is John Lewis where they're £13 for two but would also have to pay delivery so not worth it. Sainsbury's do them but of course they're out of stock.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 03/08/2021 13:35

Have you tried all the supermarkets? I can go to Sains tomorrow if you want?

pussycatlickinglollyices · 03/08/2021 13:38

Socks with logos...that really will help a child learn some French, or maybe a bit of Chemistry, or some life-skills like cooking a basic meal.

CrazyBaubles · 03/08/2021 13:43

Holiday check in here from the Welsh coast (Tenby) 👋 It is boiling here - we're currently on a pit stop to pick up suntan cream as I forgot it 🙄
Thoroughly enjoying campervan life even though it's only been one night. Had a walk on the beach yesterday and today.
Currently just about to get on our way to the next stop (Solva).

Wreck that skirt price is madness! I agree with Fluffy, they should what colour etc then you just pick your own. My school used to do that - colour was navy. Local school supply was always £30ish so we got mine from New Look for less that £15.

Eldest nephew starts comp in September and his school uniform is a bit odd. Can buy trousers and shirts from wherever (black trousers, white shirt) but his tie is £25 and blazer is £45. Plus PE kit which comes to £50 minus trainers ShockConfused

I always thought the point of school uniforms was to put everyone on a level playing field, so you were all equal regardless of finances but uniforms like this just make it more obvious who has money and who is struggling IMO.

WreckTangled · 03/08/2021 13:53

I haven't been to any in person as we don't have much stocked. The shirts have to have a revere collar Grin if anyone finds any on their travels for age 12 cheaper than £28 for four delivered then I would be very grateful!

I'm ploughing through the washing very slowly. The weather looks like it's going to pick up next week, just as I'm starting to feel autumnal.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 03/08/2021 14:07

I hated those shirts. It felt like they gaped and you were flashing your boobs. It made me v self-conscious especially as the boob fairy had dropped her bombshell when I was at middle school, and my Mum was in denial that I needed to wear a bra

I can go to Asda/Tesco in the next couple of days and have a look - you need 4 x age 12?
