I haven't seen this thread yet and it's one I enjoy - the annual game of fridge jenga!

Here is ours - no meat in there yet so not sure where that is going to fit 😬

There is lots of booze & juice as well as prawn cocktail, squirty cream & double cream, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, sprouts, a gazillion cheeses

@HillaryWhitney - but it isn't for lots of us - lots of us are poor every year. And that's why I love looking at these threads for escapism! It cheers me up and makes me feel Christmassy. I don't think threads like this should be banned just because some people don't like them - if they ipset you you should not read them.

letsmakethetea · 22/12/2020 15:14

Pretty sorry state of affairs here.

Well you're not short of butter that's for sure Grin
Tangledtresses · 22/12/2020 15:16

I'm am proud of my fridge this year!!

Why do we have to justify our fridges to other people?

This has been the worst year of my life..... but I managed to make Christmas lovely for my children....

It's true people are struggling this year me included, I'm not going to go into why I don't need to. We're not showing off we're celebrating getting through a god awful year
Cheers 🥂

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 15:16

@SparklingLime - it's given me cheer.

LH1987 · 22/12/2020 15:16

@Butterflyball, I do that every year. I keep potatoes, parsnips, carrots, beer etc in a cooler on my balcony. 😀

MrsFluffyMuff · 22/12/2020 15:17

It is pure Bragging @formerbabe. Why else would they do it? There's no way I'd ever show off about how much food I Have, and post pictures of my bursting fridge online no matter my financial situation. It just cries out 'look at me and how much food I can afford to buy!'

Very crass and distasteful.

LH1987 · 22/12/2020 15:17

@Tangledtresses,couldn’t agree more!

MrsWhites · 22/12/2020 15:19

People on this thread do realise that there are people in the world literally starving to death don’t they? It’s not just this year that poverty has become an issue, nobody had any problems with threads like this before!

MrsFluffyMuff · 22/12/2020 15:21

Yes but I think more people are wising up to how this bragging stuff can affect others mental health. Times change. There were plenty other things in the past that were no problem that would be seen as bad taste now.

Fuckingcrustybread · 22/12/2020 15:24

And those saying it is not OK this year really need to consider why they think that
Online virtue signalling, so smug. Makes them feel better to pretend that they're too good and thoughtful about those who are less well off. Makes them feel virtuous, they care more than anyone else. They've posted a rude and unpleasant comment about the profligacy of others, so they can pat themselves on the back and feel good. They're all trying to outdo each other in their caring and concern for the lesser mortals. Smugness personified.

alltinselandbaubles · 22/12/2020 15:25

And that's lovely for you and your children but there are families out there who can't make it lovely for their children, children who will have no xmas lunch, no xmas presents and it'll just be another, dismal day.

islockdownoveryet · 22/12/2020 15:25

Nobody apologise for treating yourself.
I've saved all year for this .
Like everybody else I'm trying to make the best of this Christmas.
More fridges please !!

I've not seen a thread like this in previous years and I would have felt the same as I do now about this one but even if your justification is that we've always done it what a weird tradition to invoke - let's all brag and show off our vast quantities of food.
Nestlyn · 22/12/2020 15:26

Here's mine. I was at Sainsbury's at 6 this morning.

Show me your Christmas fridges!
UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 15:26

@tentative3 - I completely agree it is very telling those that feel it is distasteful this year but not other years.

@MrsFluffyMuff - I may be disabled and poor - it doesn't mean I'm unable to read! If a thread will upset me I choose not to read it not criticise other people for wanting to talk about this. I'm finding your type of post so patronising!

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2020 15:29

@alltinselandbaubles - believe me when you are in that situation you already fully know others have more than you - a mumsnet thread really doesn't register!

It's getting boring now , so shall we all just have bread and water just so others can't afford it . My fridge is mainly cheese , ham and beer hardly champagne and oysters . If it offends then don't look .
Fuckingcrustybread · 22/12/2020 15:30

Have the four Yorkshire men shown up yet?

MellowYellow101 · 22/12/2020 15:31

This thread is a bit show offy...totally understand the backlash

No, smugness and virtue signalling personified is justifying bragging about the amount of food you have by saying you've donated to a food bank.
LH1987 · 22/12/2020 15:32

@islockdownoveryet, how dare you brag about your ham? so distasteful! 🧐

Literallynoidea · 22/12/2020 15:32

To the miserable posters @formerbabe @Onlycakesshouldhavetiers et al, what do you hope to achieve with your miserable posts?

Genuine question

@MrsFluffyMuff - I agree with you that a thread like this could affect someone's mental health - in a bad way or a good way. If a thread affects me negatively I have to take resposibility for myself and step away - it is the same in many areas - if you have mental health conditions/issues you have to have good boundaries.
