Would you be upset if you received a Hoover ( a rumba) for Christmas?

Because I think my DP has got me one 😭. We don’t live together so it would solely be used at my house. I have a very strong inkling this has what he has got me for Christmas. I have mentioned them once or twice as in saying they’re a good idea but in no way would I actually want for Christmas, I only have a tiny house with 2 rooms downstairs and 2 upstairs (plus bath room upstairs) and it takes 2 mins run my
Current Hoover around

I am not ungrateful at all and if he has got me one I will act happy and surprise and he’s obviously listening to me which can only be good but I’ll be so disappointed. I had a big birthday earlier this year and he made so much effort which was amazing but the gift he got me totally and utterly missed the mark.

I know this is a first world problem and as I say IF he has gotten me one I’ll act really pleased and thank him but I don’t know, a Hoover just seems a bit flat

I would LOVE one!!! I am very jealous.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 21/12/2020 15:17

Yes I would, it's something for doing a chore with not a gift for you to enjoy.

JoanneCofton · 21/12/2020 15:17

God I sound such a brat. I PROMISE I am not and have said so many times to only get me something small, I am
Most looking forward to watching him and my DS9 opening their presents and their joy will be enough for me but I feel a bit flat that if he’s going spend so much money on be id rather he not buy me a Hoover when I brought a brand new one last year 🙈

Yes. Obv.

Comfortzone · 21/12/2020 15:18

Yes. My mother always said you must never accept household appliances as gifts from your partner. A friends mum once threw the iron at her husband at Xmas after she unwrapped it.

Give it straight back to him. Also casually mention the importance of gift receipts over and over before Xmas day and how appliances are absolute idiotic unthoughtful gifts at this time of year.

pinkcattydude · 21/12/2020 15:18

Sorry would love one

BloodyCreateUsername · 21/12/2020 15:19

Quickly say something to him, ‘have just seen this thread on MN where the husband bought his wife a Hoover for Christmas! How funny! Surely no one thinks that’s a good present?’

It is a bit flat, I wouldn’t be too happy! Lovely gift if asked for though.

JoanneCofton · 21/12/2020 15:21

My mum got an iron off my dad one year and she was absolutely appalled, maybe I’ll mention that to him tonight in a jokey kind of way . If I had asked for one or actually had a need for one I’d be happy but I don’t. I feel terrible though as I know he puts a lot of thought into my gift and I did mention them when I saw them
In the Aldi Black Friday sale but more of a ‘wow that’s a good idea’ not ‘wow I need one of them right away.

@BloodyCreateUsername good idea! I’m always tellling him about things I’ve seen on here so he wouldn’t get suspicious of me mentioning it!

I had a neato (robot hoover) for Christmas a few years ago and it is the best present I have ever had. Far too expensive for me to buy myself but used multiple times a day.

JoanneCofton · 21/12/2020 15:23

I have a dyson cordless Hoover which I love already, I have 0 need for this! And here I was hoping for an engagement ring 😂

StandardLampski · 21/12/2020 15:24

I'd be thrilled personally but my husband thinks they are unnecessary ( not hime lugging the hoover up the stairs, do note Hmm)

However, he has asked for and is getting an appliance for Christmas too...

I suppose it depends on what the appliance is!

I think id be playing dumb with an iron .

" what is this? Show me what you do then Grin"

Dartsplayer · 21/12/2020 15:28

My husband bought me a hoover a few years ago. He has NEVER made the same type of mistake again 😂😂

InspectorAlleyn · 21/12/2020 16:08

I got a cordless Dyson one year and I was genuinely delighted, but my friends all felt sorry for me!

MedusasBadHairDay · 21/12/2020 16:10

Yes, household appliances are not treats

nzborn · 21/12/2020 16:10

Sorry l would love one as well

Chamomileteaplease · 21/12/2020 16:13

I want to know what the birthday gift was that missed the mark. Please tell.

Findahouse21 · 21/12/2020 16:15

As you don't live together then it think it's fine if he knows you would make use of it. If you live together then it's something you would both get the benefit of, so not a gift for you.

DowntonCrabby · 21/12/2020 16:15

I’d love one but from a partner that you don’t live with I think that would be a shitty present.

Egghead68 · 21/12/2020 16:15

I would be ecstatic. Mine is my best possession.

Holothane · 21/12/2020 16:17

I’d be livid not for Christmas I don’t care how much any other day it is wanted and saved up for Christmas just no, I remember the year I was with ex then it was 28 years ago, Roots had come out on video, I really wanted it saw a present heavy enough, opened it lasagne cooking dishes, I was gutted he just sat there and said, You like cooking, yes I do but I don’t want cooking stuff Christmas Day.

Egghead68 · 21/12/2020 16:17

And it’s not something for YOU to do housework with, like a mop or hoover would be. It’s something that just does it’s own thing with little/no input from you. Not at all the same thing as being given a hoover IMO.

kimlo · 21/12/2020 16:17

I would love it. But I don't think the cats would take to kindly to it.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/12/2020 16:19

My dh bought me a tumble drier last year. I know it makes me sounds like a relic from the 1950s but I was beyond pleased.
