Would you be upset if you received a Hoover ( a rumba) for Christmas?

Because I think my DP has got me one 😭. We don’t live together so it would solely be used at my house. I have a very strong inkling this has what he has got me for Christmas. I have mentioned them once or twice as in saying they’re a good idea but in no way would I actually want for Christmas, I only have a tiny house with 2 rooms downstairs and 2 upstairs (plus bath room upstairs) and it takes 2 mins run my
Current Hoover around

I am not ungrateful at all and if he has got me one I will act happy and surprise and he’s obviously listening to me which can only be good but I’ll be so disappointed. I had a big birthday earlier this year and he made so much effort which was amazing but the gift he got me totally and utterly missed the mark.

I know this is a first world problem and as I say IF he has gotten me one I’ll act really pleased and thank him but I don’t know, a Hoover just seems a bit flat

I’d be appalled. Domestic appliances are not gifts, they’re tools.

TrickyD · 21/12/2020 16:37

I have bought a Eufy Robovac for DS2, and I know he will be delighted as he is so impressed with ours and indicated that he would love one for Christmas.

What rule says tools can't gifts? I love getting tools for gifts, so does my husband.

TokyoSushi · 21/12/2020 16:39

I'd be delighted, I'd also really like a ring doorbell!

I can see why others wouldn't be pleased though!

Nowt wrong with tools. My mum got me a cordless drill for Xmas one year, I was thrilled! Not everyone has the same taste - clearly OP isn't a fan and that's fine, but "appliances aren't gifts" is a silly generalisation.
DonkeyMcFluff · 21/12/2020 16:40

I’d be thrilled. Especially if it came with a little costume and googly eyes.

DoTheNextRightThing · 21/12/2020 16:40

That depends - do you have a cat? Because I love those videos of cats sitting on roombas zooming around the room. Endless enjoyment, I'd say.

Regardless though, I think a roomba is a good gift. Maybe just be more careful next time with what you say - make sure you drop hints for things you really want!

Egghead68 · 21/12/2020 16:40

@kimlo

I would love it. But I don't think the cats would take to kindly to it.
Pets love riding on them.
FizzyPink · 21/12/2020 16:42

I would be very pleased but I’m already used to the idea that my DP buys practical presents. I have to be really careful what I mention
to him because it’ll inevitably end up under the tree at Christmas.
Last year it was a very flashy electric toothbrush Hmm

LastChristmas20 · 21/12/2020 16:42

Nope! I got a Shark 2 years back and am still very pleased!

It's not like there's anything I need anyway. Tend to buy whatever I'm after. So was great to get it.

A roomba would be even better as it's basically the gift of not needing to hoover!!!

pinkcattydude · 21/12/2020 16:43

And in future on the run up to Christmas anything you say oooh that’s good, follow it up with ‘Not as a present, but maybe we could get one in the new year sales’. I learnt this when I got an electric screwdriver for Christmas yes helpful but not as a gift.

CrochetToTheMoon · 21/12/2020 16:44

Id love it!

Kittytheteapot · 21/12/2020 16:45

Well, I get that it is not the most romantic gift, and certainly not up there with an engagement ring, but i would be pretty happy with it if I was bought one. But then, I don't like a lot of things other women like, and definitely don't like unasked for useless gifts. Far better something to lighten the load when it comes to housework than, say, a hideous ornament or picture.

EnPoinsettia · 21/12/2020 16:46

It’s need to come with half a dozen kittens as passengers for me not to throw an absolute strip over that tbf.

EnPoinsettia · 21/12/2020 16:47

Strop!

snowgirl1 · 21/12/2020 16:48

I'd be delighted, I really want one and it was one of my suggestions for my Christmas pressie. It's not like giving someone a vacuum, which they have to use - it means you never have to vacuum again. Nirvana Xmas Grin. Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration...

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/12/2020 16:51

I have a roomba-his name is Dave and I love him! He goes several times a day and I haven’t used my other vacuum since I had him apart from the stairs! Best labour saving device after the washing my and dishwasher.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/12/2020 16:51

Machine not my

halcyondays · 21/12/2020 16:53

I’d love one.

1926joycedoris · 21/12/2020 16:54

I got a Henry hoover for Christmas once - I was so happy I cried.
If he's otherwise amazing I'd cut him some slack - at least he's listening to you and trying - that is really what matters.

Changi · 21/12/2020 16:54

That depends - do you have a cat?

I'd be more worried if I had a dog.

Would you be upset if you received a Hoover ( a rumba) for Christmas?
Butternutsqoosh · 21/12/2020 16:59

I got a rug doctor once, I was furious and refused to accept it so he got me a food processor instead. The next year for my birthday he paid for a puncture repair on my car, then for Christmas I pulled my cracker to find the most beautiful engagement ring inside that we had seen together at a jewellery auction but couldn't afford (or so I thought!) I cried because I'd been such an arsehole to him the week leading up to Christmas! This year I've bought myself some running shoes and he said he'd give me the money .... nothing yet!! We shall see!

stayathomer · 21/12/2020 17:01

I had this thought the other er r day, mil was saying she got a Hoover for a present once and was over the moon about it then afterwards thought- that's it? No make up, chocolate, nice book or album? I think I'd be the same, happy when I got it, then afterwards oh god really? This is what I get to look forward to? And the fact he don't live together, kind of makes it a bit more ... sigh to me. (I'm so sorry!!!!)

baublesforme · 21/12/2020 17:07

I think household appliances are fine as a gift if the person receiving has been clear they want it! Otherwise, no!

TheCrow · 21/12/2020 17:07

I think if I'd been out and said something like 'ooh a robot hoover, what a good idea!' and my DP took that to mean it would be a good present I wouldn't really be able to blame him. I guess it depends, are you that enthusiastic about a lot of things near Christmas? If that was one of the only things you were excited about while out shopping I can understand the confusion. I also see a robot hoover as more of a gadget than a household appliance so I'd be pissed off if I received a normal hoover as a gift but a robot hoover is pretty cool 😂
