Would you be upset if you received a Hoover ( a rumba) for Christmas?

Because I think my DP has got me one 😭. We don’t live together so it would solely be used at my house. I have a very strong inkling this has what he has got me for Christmas. I have mentioned them once or twice as in saying they’re a good idea but in no way would I actually want for Christmas, I only have a tiny house with 2 rooms downstairs and 2 upstairs (plus bath room upstairs) and it takes 2 mins run my
Current Hoover around

I am not ungrateful at all and if he has got me one I will act happy and surprise and he’s obviously listening to me which can only be good but I’ll be so disappointed. I had a big birthday earlier this year and he made so much effort which was amazing but the gift he got me totally and utterly missed the mark.

I know this is a first world problem and as I say IF he has gotten me one I’ll act really pleased and thank him but I don’t know, a Hoover just seems a bit flat

A robot vacuum isn’t essential and they are great so I’d be quite pleased.
I’m getting a washing machine this year. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it but he’s paying for it, we haven’t got much money this year, we haven’t got one and it will make life easier. I have had nice thoughtful presents in previous years.

You do have to be very clear with some people (men mostly IME) it might spoil a surprise but it's better than getting an expensive present you don't want.

CorianderQueen · 21/12/2020 17:18

No I'd like one

movingonup20 · 21/12/2020 17:19

My mum bought me one- I requested it!

Whoateallthestuffingballs · 21/12/2020 17:20

I was fully prepared to be outraged, as if you live with someone that buys you a domestic appliance, that in my book is tantamount to saying it's your job to do whatever drudgery related to said appliance, be it ironing, vacuuming ... DH would be in big trouble Grin

But as you don't live together, I am less offended. I'd do the faux "I saw this thread on MN, haha ..." as suggested. But then I'd really lay the hints on thick for what you'd actually like. Otherwise he might just exchange it for a steam mop or something Wink

BlueCookieMonster · 21/12/2020 17:25

My goodness, I’d love a roomba!

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 21/12/2020 17:29

I'd be Hmm and I'm not spoilt or ungrateful by nature.

Nsky · 21/12/2020 17:30

Def a no thanks

LindaEllen · 21/12/2020 17:42

I would be thrilled, but then again I'm the kind of person who would actually ask for appliances .. this year I'm getting a bread maker and I am SO excited to make bread on Boxing Day, it's unreal!

Then again, I accept that - possibly - I'm a little abnormal.

thelegohooverer · 21/12/2020 18:12

I would love one. But I generally prefer practical and useful gifts so I have to really work hard at thinking up gifts for normal other people.

stillfeelingmad · 21/12/2020 18:16

I LOVE ours we have a small house and it's still been life changing

RubbishQueen · 21/12/2020 18:19

My husband before he was my husband got me a Dyson cordless for Christmas. I would be chuffed with a rumba!!

Maybe I need to get out more... Hmm

SuePreem · 21/12/2020 18:19

I really wouldn't want to receive one from a partner, but I have bought myself one for Christmas! I'm even going to wrap it.

Bellyfat · 21/12/2020 18:20

I'd love one.
For previous Christmases I've asked for a tool kit and a new iron, I like to be 'treated' but also really like practical gifts.

Strongswans · 21/12/2020 18:20

I have one in my Christmas list Grindon't think I'm getting it though!

Ragwort · 21/12/2020 18:21

Personally I love practical presents, but I realise that's not a popular opinion on Mumsnet.

Snog · 21/12/2020 18:22

I had a dyson cordless last Xmas and am still thrilled with it!

Howmanysleepsnow · 21/12/2020 18:24

I’d love one, but DH says it’s not a proper present as it’s for housework so I’m not getting one!

DecemberDiana · 21/12/2020 18:26

Well it wouldn't work well in my home so no I'd not be happy.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 21/12/2020 18:29

My Roomba (a very old one now, second hand from the eBay) is brilliant. He’s so great, we named him Wolfgang & is so simple to use the dog often turns him on.

I’d be ecstatic if I got a brand new one for Christmas (I’m not one for assigning designations to presents, like a household item isn’t a Christmas thing, or whatever. I’ve been on the barebones of my bottom financially, anything given is a blessing and a gift). I’m relatively well off now.

AlternativePerspective · 21/12/2020 18:34

The Lakeland gift section has a number of different cleaning appliances on it. Hmm

Personally I think that it depends on whether you’ve asked for it. I have over the years received as Christmas presents, a set of le crucet saucepans, a waffle maker, a pasta machine, and a kitchenaid. I have been happy with all of those, but I ask for those kinds of presents, iyswim.

My dad bought my mum a deep fat frier one year.... he has never lived it down...

I would actually love a roomba but it’s to high to fit under my furniture. In fact the only one I’ve found which does is the Vileda one, which is a cheap one and only part effective...

isthismylifenow · 21/12/2020 18:38

I would love one too. I wouldn't class it a bog standard appliance, as it's a fancy one.

I got a nespresso machine last year and loved that. It's also an appliance isn't it?

I bought myself a le creuset casserole dish this year. I'm ecstatic about my gift 😀

Throwntothewolves · 21/12/2020 18:39

No. I bought one in the Amazon Prime day deals and it's the best thing ever! But I have a large house, kids, pets, work full time and my husband is often unwell so it really is great having one less thing to worry about

Harkhowthebells · 21/12/2020 18:52

What is a rumba?

I would love a hoover if it was a fancy, cordless one like a Shark or Dyson.

I can understand why people don't think it's a proper present though.

An iron is an absolutely appalling present.

MarcelineMissouri · 21/12/2020 18:54

DH got me a cordless dyson a few years ago. He did get me other things as well! I was a bit Hmm at first but I love it so much I look back on it as a great present!
