Would you be upset if you received a Hoover ( a rumba) for Christmas?

Because I think my DP has got me one 😭. We don’t live together so it would solely be used at my house. I have a very strong inkling this has what he has got me for Christmas. I have mentioned them once or twice as in saying they’re a good idea but in no way would I actually want for Christmas, I only have a tiny house with 2 rooms downstairs and 2 upstairs (plus bath room upstairs) and it takes 2 mins run my
Current Hoover around

I am not ungrateful at all and if he has got me one I will act happy and surprise and he’s obviously listening to me which can only be good but I’ll be so disappointed. I had a big birthday earlier this year and he made so much effort which was amazing but the gift he got me totally and utterly missed the mark.

I know this is a first world problem and as I say IF he has gotten me one I’ll act really pleased and thank him but I don’t know, a Hoover just seems a bit flat

I have one and LOVE it. It’s a great gift if you hate hoovering but I agree it’s not for everyone.

Cherrytangfastic · 21/12/2020 19:03

I know it sounds naff now but once you have one it'll be your favourite thing in the world Grin

redastherose · 21/12/2020 19:55

I bought myself one last year, best present I have ever had 😁 makes me happy to hear it hoovering for me every morning.

bubblesforlife · 21/12/2020 20:00

Each to their own, personally I would love it

Toddlerteaplease · 21/12/2020 20:07

I'd love one!

Bluewavescrashing · 21/12/2020 20:13

I'd be upset but only because I'm phobic of robots. It would probably improve my quality of life.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 21/12/2020 20:19

My Auntie has bought me a shark I'm so excited!!!
I would say I need to get out more but we can't!!

RuthW · 21/12/2020 21:21

I would be thrilled. Always wanted one

safariboot · 21/12/2020 21:21

If it's one of the robot ones that does it by itself then I think that's OK as a gift. Save you doing the vacuuming!

dietnopelovechocolatetoomuch · 21/12/2020 22:51

I got one last year, but I asked for one! I have asthma and have to Hoover everyday so this was a real luxury for me. However he also got me other things too that were really sweet that he had put a tone of effort into.

hiredandsqueak · 21/12/2020 22:59

I bought myself a Neato, it's the best thing I've ever bought myself. If someone had bought one for me I'd be very happy tbh.

lemonsquashie · 22/12/2020 08:39

If you don't live together, it's different. He's not saying you're the cleaner in the relationship. Also, you can gently educate him for next year

I think choosing a gift can be so hard. My OH is often way off the mark too but then again, I'm so hard to buy for. I can buy myself anything I want We don't put huge emphasis on gifts

ScrapThatThen · 22/12/2020 08:46

I would tell him your mum's iron story and say 'so I thought it was only fair to tell you that household appliances will only be accepted if they are accompanied by thoughtful and personal items like jewellery or perfume' Wink

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/12/2020 09:41

No. Household appliances aren’t gifts. Maybe a nice coffee maker at a push.

JellyfishandShells · 22/12/2020 09:48

Household appliances as gifts are a nono in our house - but as the OP andDP don’t actually live together, it’s a bit different t, IMO, as it’s a gift to her and her house, not something that is of mutual benefit.

That said, her house doesn’t sound like the kind that would particularly fit well well with a Roomba - we have a long, thin Victorian house and it would be like a pinball machine in ours as well.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 22/12/2020 09:49

I would love a robot hoover.

caperplips · 22/12/2020 13:48

I would love one of these and a matching one for mowing the lawn! However I would NOT like one as my Christmas present at all..
I am not a fan of household goods as a personal present from my dh. I would be delighted if it was from my parents etc but I want my dh to think of things that are personal luxuries for me alone and for me to exist as a person first and foremost to him. Sounds over the top but I really feel that way and luckily for me dh and I are on the same page.

I like things like my favourite (stupidly expensive!) perfume, jewellery (dh has great taste and knows what I like and from which jewellers), leather bag (not into big name designers but like good quality, minimal contemporary bags), flowers, clothes (he can pick for me and has done)..gorgeous handmade soaps from places like Santa Maria Novella, travel..etc

But I get that my list would be a nightmare for lots of people who would prefer the more practical things.

It's a running joke between me and dh that he's getting me a new mop or an iron for birthday / Christmas

HollowTalk · 22/12/2020 13:51

I think it's a great Christmas present, given he's not living with you. If he was, then it would be something he wanted as well.

JoanneCofton · 22/12/2020 22:56

If i hadn’t had a new Hoover recently or I’d asked him to get me one id be over the moon but neither of them apply here... he said earlier that one of the presents he has got for me he took a gamble on and he’s not sure if he’s missed the mark so we will see!! I’ll update thread when I’ve opened my presents to let you know. Thanks everyone abs merry Christmas 🎅🏼

Wouldn’t be too bothered about it. There are worse things to receive!!

Baycob · 22/12/2020 22:59

I would love one too.

Thismustbelove · 23/12/2020 00:34

I wanted one so much I bought one for DH as his Christmas present :).

I really wanted one and am delighted with it.

Hasten to add I was joking when I opened it and told him his Xmas gift had arrived.

Aerielview · 23/12/2020 10:43

I have one, but didn't receive it as a present. But if this one breaks, I would over the moon to get one as a present! They're brilliant!

Pellewsmate · 23/12/2020 11:06

Speaking as someone whose DH bought them a hoover for their first Xmas together I can confirm that it is a s**t present.
I now buy my own presents and DH is the only person surprised when I unwrap them, the look on his face has become my highlight of Xmas.

Allington · 23/12/2020 11:13

I would love one! Also various other household appliances as money is short and I am furnishing our new house... Grin
