Those of you who wrap everything on Christmas eve...

How much do you have to wrap? I've just wrapped maybe 10 things and I can't be bothered with any more! Do you only have a few bits to wrap? Or are you one of those people who works better if there's a deadline? Is it deliberate or did life get in the way?

I should say I'm not someone who has everything wrapped by 31st October. I'll probably still have a couple of things to wrap on christmas eve. In fact I make a point of it as it feels more festive. But I couldn't do the whole lot then!

I did it all on Xmas eve once because I'd been disorganised and it was so depressing to unwrap it all 12 hours later. I resolved never again to leave it all so late, I wrap as I go along now.

The actual wrapping I don't mind, I'll happily wrap 40 items in one go if required, but I'm not actually very good at it so seeing it all undone the next day was very unfestive.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 11/12/2020 21:24

I can't wrap as I go because even if I write a list you can guarantee I will forget a label and have a mystery present. I usually aim for finishing the week before. Far too stressful todo it on Christmas Eve!

santasmincepie · 11/12/2020 21:28

No i can't wrap as I go either. I like wrapping, but only in short bursts. I've done DS and DP. I'll do other family members on another night.

I once had to work christmas eve and was wrapping frantically at night with a bottle of wine (the wrapping got steadily more crazy!) Never again!

I do because I’m chronically disorganised, also at least 50% will either have been bought on or arrived on Christmas Eve so wrapping it before isn’t an option! I do know that as I’ve finally finished at 2am I’ve sworn I won’t leave it all to Christmas Eve again...so I should probably start doing some Christmas shopping this weekend..

ShowOfHands · 11/12/2020 21:35

I'd have a complete breakdown if I left wrapping past the 15th or so. It needs to be done, stock counted, prepped and ready to go. From the 20th onwards, I enjoy myself. No panicking, prepping etc.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 11/12/2020 21:36

Only ever done it once that late and that was a year we were all unwell. Never again.

I now aim to have everything brought by the end of November and wrap everything the first week of December. Feel much better for the peace of mind knowing it’s done and sorted.

Stompythedinosaur · 11/12/2020 21:37

I hate wrapping on Christmas eve. It takes me ages, I do it over 3 or 4 nights in the run up. I just have a couple of last minute things left to wrap now.

JumpLeads I put tiny codes on all my wrapped gifts corresponding to a master list on my phone so I can tell you which gift is for who.

Thecatisboss · 11/12/2020 21:38

Used to leave it all to do on Christmas eve then when DD was 3 we ended up at out of hours doctor as she got an ear infection on Christmas eve (& had been in A&E 2 days previously with a febrile convulsion). Then had to traipse to the last chemist open to get the prescription. I was shattered when we got home and then had to wrap presents ever since then I've done a load the weekend before.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 11/12/2020 21:38

I used to do it all Christmas eve, this year I've wrapped as things have arrived. Getting a proper sellotape dispenser has made the experience a million times more pleasant instead of hunting for the end every 30 seconds.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 11/12/2020 21:38

I usually do because I am God's own procrastinator, but not this year baby!

HaggisTheGreat · 11/12/2020 21:41

Did it all once on Christmas Eve. Had visions of it being festive fun with Christmas music and mulled wine. Took bloody hours and was not the least bit fun. Never again.

TheGriffle · 11/12/2020 21:46

We tend to wrap the kids gifts on Christmas Eve as we don’t really have anywhere to put them once wrapped where they won’t get ripped and torn. They’re all stuffed in 2 big cardboard boxes under my stairs at the minute and they’d get ruined if they were wrapped.

Other people gifts will be wrapped sometime this week and then kept under the tree until we hand them out then I might wrap a couple of the kids gifts a night and pop them under the stairs but not in the box and just hope to keep the kids away from it.

Therealmrsclaus · 11/12/2020 21:55

Last year we moved house on the 22nd of December things had been so hectic I didn't get chance to do my wrapping until Christmas eve, never again!! I was up till gone midnight. This year I will be doing my wrapping next week ( still later than intended ) but I won't do it all in one go I intend to do it in blocks while children at school listening to carols Xmas Smile

Keha · 11/12/2020 22:14

I have quite a lot to wrap, takes 2 or 3 hours but I put on some Christmas telly and get through it. I quite enjoy it.

HazeyJaneII · 11/12/2020 22:26

We always end up wrapping a mountain of presents on Christmas Eve, my favourite bit of it is when dh and I are up at 1am watching old Xmas top of the pops drinking Bailey's trying to cram stuff in stockings.

We had 2 years when the kids were younger when we ended up in hospital on Xmas eve with ds, one involving an ambulance trip, and dh building a Dolls house at 3am for our dds, after having left ds and I on the children's ward. He was so tired he'd put the back wall on upside down, but I'm not sure anyone ever noticed!

TheRubyRedshoes · 11/12/2020 22:49

I did it once, never ever again! All wrapped already... Do it bit by bit...

Imsayingnothing · 11/12/2020 22:58

@HaggisTheGreat I had the same idea many times on Christmas Eve!

I have now learned my lesson. Never again. This year I have finished everything so far. Wrapped, ribboned and tagged. I've even built the dolls house. Only 1 present still to wrap but that's because I'm still waiting for it to be delivered.

I made myself a promise after last Christmas Eve. I'm so glad I've kept my promise this year. It makes such a difference to be organised for once.

Pipandmum · 11/12/2020 23:01

I did that once as due to other circumstances just couldn't do it before. I was up so late - never again. I haven't wrapped anything yet but it will be the last week of school so last chance to. I'm still expecting a couple presents to arrive but I'll get it done before kids off school.

didireallysaythat · 11/12/2020 23:01

But if you wrap as you go along, how can you remember what you've got and work out if anyone needs anything else (to even things up)? I'm usually still getting Amazon deliveries Xmas Eve ...

Pipandmum · 11/12/2020 23:02

Oh and its about 15 in total, and I have a list of what I have for each!

Baileysoncereal · 11/12/2020 23:14

I agree with @didireallysaythat

I also don’t know how you can have enough room to wrap them and hide them without them being squashed and bashed and ruining the wrapping, or somewhere they may be found. Maybe my house is just too small!

DuskandSummer · 11/12/2020 23:14

I'm don't leave it last minute any more after getting a winter vomiting bug on Christmas Eve a few years ago and having to do all the kids wrapping feeling like death.
I had great plans to do it all on Tuesday next week before the kids break up but DS class bubble burst today and he will now be home. Hmm Will do a series of late nights instead.

ilovebagpuss · 11/12/2020 23:15

I work every day in the week and then collect DD’s from school. Not really anywhere secret to wrap and they are older so don’t go to bed until 9 ish.
For me it’s just time I’ve had to wrap on Christmas Eve before as I haven’t had the luxury of maybe a day in the week or whatever. My poor organisation I know.
I have friends who are SAHM and they tell me they can get it done when kids are at school which must be a big help.
That’s not a dig I just don’t seem to be able to find the time or privacy.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 11/12/2020 23:17

urgh
ever year I say I won't leave it until Christmas Eve
ever year DH and I are sat up bickering over the sellotape in front of some crappy movie until 1am.
I really must get sorted this year though, as he's working until midnight on Christmas Eve, and there's no way I'm doing it all myself.
