Those of you who wrap everything on Christmas eve...

How much do you have to wrap? I've just wrapped maybe 10 things and I can't be bothered with any more! Do you only have a few bits to wrap? Or are you one of those people who works better if there's a deadline? Is it deliberate or did life get in the way?

I should say I'm not someone who has everything wrapped by 31st October. I'll probably still have a couple of things to wrap on christmas eve. In fact I make a point of it as it feels more festive. But I couldn't do the whole lot then!

My DM did it all on Xmas eve once and she was up until 3am wrapping and she vowed to never do it again. She still talks about how awful it all was every single christmas and listening to her talk about it made me ensure all wrapping is done and dusted way before Christmas eve

I can always remember what I've bought for everyone, if I want to make sure it's equal I make a list.

Justme10 · 11/12/2020 23:28

I'm usually a Christmas Eve wrapper but this year I have wrapped as I've bought, which feels so much better, I will never leave it till Christmas Eve again!
I have a list of what I've bought and then tick it off when it's wrapped Xmas Grin
I agree with pp, theres nothing worse than finishing wrapping at 2am and then watching it being ripped open a few hours later!

MaryLeeOnHigh · 11/12/2020 23:34

@JumpLeadsForTwo

I can't wrap as I go because even if I write a list you can guarantee I will forget a label and have a mystery present. I usually aim for finishing the week before. Far too stressful todo it on Christmas Eve!
I write the recipient's initial somewhere unobtrusive on the wrapping paper. Fortunately my children and DH all have different initials.
justasking111 · 11/12/2020 23:40

Once for some reason I ended up wrapping on xmas eve, never again I was over tired, hungover from quaffing merrily.

Friends are panicking because they thought they had more time before school broke up to do the wrapping and now that idea has gone kaput.

Tierful · 11/12/2020 23:46

I save it for Christmas Eve! A bit of peace, a drink, tv room door shut with control of the remote.,.

The A&E trip is making me think twice though. Still expecting Santa in this house!

Figmentofimagination · 11/12/2020 23:48

I wrap in stages. So DS's presents are all wrapped and in the loft. I put sticker gift tags on them instead of the usual string and card so I know which present is from which family member (I buy his presents from elderly family members as well) and so the tags don't fall off.

Then the rest are wrapped in stages depending on when we will see the recipient. So wrapped the presents for friends who are popping over this weekend first. Will wrap IL's last as we see them on Boxing Day. I will never wrap on Christmas Eve.

Next wrapping night is Sunday when DH isn't working.

Startingoveryetagain · 11/12/2020 23:55

I'm usually a xmas eve wrapper and I love putting the dc to bed sitting down in front of a movie with a glass of baileys and wrapping until my little hearts content.
This year though I've wrapped quite a few and plan on doing the rest next week. This is the first year I've been off work around xmas time, so want to make the most of it with my dc.

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2020 00:21

I absolutely love LOVE wrapping! I used to save wrapping the dcs stocking stuff until Christmas Eve but they were younger and went to bed at a reasonable time. They’re older now so I have to wrap furtively in short bursts. They don’t really have stockings, they have sacks and probably have 30 odd things each in them so it takes ages to do in one go.
I don’t usually even start any kind of Christmas shopping until mid December but I’m ridiculously organised this year and have done the majority online and got most of it wrapped as I have received deliveries.
The problem with that is, I haven’t spent as much time on the actual wrapping so it looks a bit shit. Doesn’t feel worth getting all maybe nice decorative wrapping bits out (stamps to write tags, ribbons, bells, foliage etc) to do 4 or 5 at a time so I just haven’t bothered. And I’m disappointed that what I have wrapped looks shit!! So I will revert to my usual next year and wrap in the lead up to Christmas in one or two nights so it feels with faffing for 30 presents a night!!
(We have massive families and buy for everyone)

Boymumzy · 12/12/2020 01:25

I wrap as they come into the house , it stops nosey parkers trying to peek and saves me from pins and needles and a bad back! I keep track of everything on my 'Notes' app on my phone so everything gets ticked off.

lemorella · 12/12/2020 07:18

Apparently the average time spent wrapping presents is 5 hours!

I do mine as I receive things. As I have DC now I also take all toys out of packaging as I go to reduce to amount of plastic and cardboard crap for recycling in the weeks before rather than having a mountain of it on Xmas day.

DwangelaForever · 12/12/2020 07:29

I don't wrap the kids presents lol. Family presents are all wrapped well before Christmas eve then delivered to them.

BefuddledPerson · 12/12/2020 07:33

We sometimes did it Christmas Eve but only when they went to bed early. It took about 3-4 hours I guess but was fun.

Recently we did it in one go a few nights before.

This year we feel ancient and knackered so said we would do a few stints starting next week.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 12/12/2020 07:35

The children's are all bought and wrapped before school finishes, others I wrap as I go as it doesn't matter who sees me doing it. I normally start the 2nd week of December as mine have birthdays and it's easier to pick out duplicates if unwrapped. I also move things between them to even up the piles so it allows that to be finalised to. I have a list and a gift app of what I've bought and how much it costs so don't need to look at piles to see if they have similar amounts.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/12/2020 07:46

Every year I am wrapping Christmas Eve.
Every year I say never again.
I want the kids stuff wrapped by Friday. In laws neex wrapping by Saturday. DHs shouldn't take too long. My families have already been delivered (except my brother's which didn't arrive until yesterday).

Time will tell....

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 12/12/2020 07:56

I usually have mine finished by now. Fil has died, nothing feels festive as we await his funeral next week so I am way behind.
Wrapped everyone’s stocking presents last week. Need to tackle the actual tree presents and gifts for others next. According to my list 51 gifts to go Xmas Blush

InTheCludgie · 12/12/2020 08:08

didireallysaythat I write a list of everything I buy and whereabouts it's been hidden (not that there are loads of places for that, I'm in a 2 bed terrace). Once the tree is up all presents, apart from the kids ones from us, go under it. I'm really forgetful so the list is a godsend!

InTheCludgie · 12/12/2020 08:10

Just read your post thedarknights, so sorry for your family's loss Flowers

MistletoeandGin · 12/12/2020 08:11

Bloody hell I haven’t even bought most peoples presents yet, let alone wrapped them.
I find them much harder to store once wrapped, so I leave it until the last minute.

BertieBotts · 12/12/2020 08:22

I don't have that much to wrap. More than ten usually but not more than 20.

I will probably do the stocking stuff earlier this year.

LM20 · 12/12/2020 08:22

I have a Christmas note on my phone which at the top has total expenditure for each person what I still need to spend. As and when I buy I adjust the total. Below I have a list of presents for each person with the amount and I add a tick once bought.

I wrap as I buy, I’ve been done since October 😏 I like to be able to send my nights in December watching Christmas movies, not wrapping!

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 12/12/2020 08:26

Thank you @InTheCludgie. Trying to be upbeat for the children.

InvincibleInvisibility · 12/12/2020 08:52

I have a list of presents and tick off as i wrap.

All presents under the tree are from us or relatives. FC only gives stockings.

Therefore I start wrapping once the tree is up and and put the presents underneath straight away with labels or a colour code for each person (eg I use recyclable kraft paper with a different colour ribbon per person).

We started putting presents under the tree ahead of the 24th once the youngest DC hit 3 and understood he wasn't allowed to touch or open them. I think it the tree looks much nicer with presents under it

pinkksugarmouse · 12/12/2020 11:50

I have Rheumatoid arthritis so wrapping more than three in a night would be too much for me.
I only have four for DH & six for DD (2 of which don't require wrapping) so all done except the one still to arrive.

It seems like a stressful way to spend Christmas Eve wrapping even without arthritis. It's time to curl up with your favourite drink and some chocolate and watch some great TV.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/12/2020 12:03

I used to do this, frantically wrapping at past midnight on Christmas Eve - especially the year we had 9 humans and 3 dogs staying for Christmas and everyone in this house always gets a stocking, even if a very little one. (The humans, that is - if the dogs had stockings as well as presents under the tree, the owners did them.)

I love having it all done in plenty of time now.
