Does anyone still use crackers?

Just curious. I haven't had Christmas crackers for years and was never overly impressed with them except maybe as a very young child. For years I have only had Christmas with one or two other people so it seems pointless anyway.
I am interested in how other people do things. Do you have crackers? What kind do you have?

Yes we have crackers every year.

RememberSelfCompassion · 06/12/2020 00:30

Wow. We always do. And at work meals and friend christmas dinners out etc.

I kind of would have guessed 95% of people in the uk had them!? But I am ready to be wrong! I know they dont in America.

purpleme12 · 06/12/2020 00:31

I would say that most people have crackers

PinGwyn · 06/12/2020 00:35

We don't - gave up on them a few years back because we were sick of pulling them then binning 99% of the shit inside.

None of us miss them tbh!

felineflutter · 06/12/2020 00:35

I have never had a Christmas without one.

ChristmasWitch · 06/12/2020 00:37

We always have crackers.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 06/12/2020 00:39

We have them. They’re always shite. 🤣 We just buy whatever Tesco’s or Morrison’s have. My MIL buys ‘posher’ ones. They contain slightly posher shite.

HedgieHog · 06/12/2020 00:44

Yes but try and get ones without tat in them
This year got beauty ones

RoseMartha · 06/12/2020 00:49

Yes always.

ethelredonagoodday · 06/12/2020 00:50

Yep every year for Xmas and New Year's Eve. They are generally a bit crap, but don't really care.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 06/12/2020 00:55

Yes but I make them myself as I got fed up of the tat in them

BrummyMum1 · 06/12/2020 01:07

Totally off topic but this has reminded me of when my young DD asked my MIL for a cracker and she left the kitchen, rummaged around in a drawer and produced a Christmas cracker. My DD was really confused as she just wanted a snack. What was my MIL thinking! It was around November I think so not even the Christmas period 😂

73kittycat73 · 06/12/2020 01:11

Got to have a cracker so you can wear your Christmas crown/hat during Christmas dinner! Xmas Grin

newnewnewbuild · 06/12/2020 01:13

We always have them! We love pulling them, and we all wear the hats and tell the jokes.

This year with it being just me and DH we've bought a make your own cracker set off ebay.

safariboot · 06/12/2020 01:13

Wouldn't be Christmas dinner without them would it?

There's no point buying "luxury" ones because it's still rubbish inside. I could go for plastic-free next time I buy though, if I can find such a thing without paying excess. (I've still got half the box from last year for this Christmas.)

EnglishRose1320 · 06/12/2020 01:13

Yes but last year we switched over to make your own ones which we can put non tat things in and they are recyclable outers. Will be sticking to that from now on.

pinkksugarmouse · 06/12/2020 01:27

I suppose its mostly the plastic and other waste that puts me off the most.
I also really couldn't expect DH to wear one of those dreadful hats. He has embraced so many of my Christmas loves including going from two pieces of tinsel to a 7ft tree but stupid hats? 🤔 Nope.

They just seem so utterly pointless. Unless you're aged under ten. But everyone does their own Christmas things and I appreciate that I am in a minority. 😁🎄🎅

We got hotel chocolate ones this year as we know we will like what's inside!

timeforanewstart · 06/12/2020 01:42

Yes thats where all our nail clippers and little screwdrivers come from
Only by decent ones
Plus you have to have a paper xmas hat , we see who can keep theirs on longest

BluebellsGreenbells · 06/12/2020 01:46

Why are you so bothered? If you don’t like them, don’t buy them.

haba · 06/12/2020 01:55

I hate them because of the waste. (I like the bang though!) My children will not let me throw away the contents...so now info not buy them at all. (Seriously- they have racing Santas from six years ago. Both have asd though)

Hohomerryxmas · 06/12/2020 02:05

Yes, we actually got a christmas pudding pass the parcel one this year for the kids as there's only the 4 of us, it has layers of tissue paper and you peel bach each layer, plastic tat in-between each layer, but its the only plastic tat I've bought this year so I'm not feeling too guilty.

Pipandmum · 06/12/2020 02:11

Yes we love them! And last year I was in America and found them on Amazon.com so had them there too.
There is waste, but for a once a year thing I can live with that.

Lindy2 · 06/12/2020 02:39

Always. It's not Christmas dinner without crackers to pull.
