How much have you spent on Advent Calendars?

As a child we just had a picture advent calendar to share. Not even a chocolate one.
I have been looking at the threads where you all share what your advent calendar reveals on the day, and feel like I’m missing out.
So I thought I’d treat my self to one (better late than never) but I am shocked by the price of some of them £80! And it may not even contain much that you’d use. And some of you have bought two or three for other family members.
So go on, shock me some more with how much you have spent this year.

I love the idea of a Christmas book calendar, the 24th will be Twas the Night Before Christmas, of course, but I will enjoy researching all the others...question is, do I do it for myself, or DS 5, or DH...

Thinking about it I might do DH a DVD calendar next year, he's always got a list of rubbish films on the go, and most of them are dirt cheap because no one else wants to watch them...

I spent a grand total of €4.48 in Lidl on 2 boxes of 20 chocolate teddies in foil figurines - DD got her fabric calendar rehung with a choc in each day's pocket.

Some years we have bought a Lego City one, as she was big into that for a good few years - but the last one (2 years ago) was barely looked at so we're back to just the fabric one again.

When she was much younger, I used to print off various festive colouring and activity sheets off free sites on the internet and roll those up to stick out of the pocket some days as well as her choc. The joy of that idea was that as she got older, we could still do it but the sheets got harder and pictures got more intricate, so she still looked forward to them.

£12 in total for the 4 of us. Me and DH had nice chocolate ones which were £5 each. I let the 2 DDs pick their own chocolate advent calendars and handily they each chose cheap £1 ones! Grin

We have a felt Christmas tree with pockets in that are the perfect size for a lindor. We just fill it up every year and my 3 teens take it in turns to have the chocolate out of the calendar and the other two grab one from the box. So.. £10 between the three.

SomewhereEast · 04/12/2020 16:06

I'm not usually OTT at Christmas but our annual advent calendar spend is £50+ Blush. The DC really love the Lego ones, so they get one each every year plus a simple chocolate one.

SomewhereEast · 04/12/2020 16:07

Oh, and we got the cat one too this Advent Blush
Its just been an "Ah fuck it, lets get the cat an Advent calendar" kind of year.

pinkksugarmouse · 04/12/2020 17:53

£0 & 0p

DD is 18. I bought her a chocolate calendar until this year but over the past few years she has just forgotten to open them and then after being reminded eaten a week's worth. I asked her about this year and she said she didn't see the point. She can buy some chocolate if she wants some. Fair point.

DH and I have no interest in them.

Shitfuckoh · 04/12/2020 18:08

£25 JL one for DC1
£20 Lego city D2
£20 Peppa pig DC3
£25 Yankee Candle one for me.
Then 3 x £5 chocolate ones Blush

OatcakeCravings · 04/12/2020 20:49

I spent £40 on DS. He got a funko pop Dragon Ball Z one and a Lindt one.

I did contemplate buying myself a beauty one since this year has been so joyless but didn’t get around to it.

Scbchl · 04/12/2020 20:51

109 for three kids..it likely wont be happening again but they havent been on any holidays or been able to do much during the year and there isnt much we can do this christmas so have saved a fortune and can afford it.

Katjolo · 04/12/2020 21:07

1.50

Silversun83 · 04/12/2020 21:10

£24 - a Frozen book one for DD and general Disney book one for DS.

smoqpuas · 04/12/2020 21:10

My mum bought me an £80 one. I'm very pleased with it.

blackpoolsneighbour · 04/12/2020 21:11

£4.40

Namechange8471 · 04/12/2020 21:12

2.00 for a dairy milk one, dd was thrilled. Friend bought 3 each for her kids, i don't see the point...

Frenchdressing · 04/12/2020 22:18

Amazed at how much people spend on a calendar.

Same here. My ghast is flabbered. 😳
junglepie · 05/12/2020 08:17

5 picture calendars here for each of the dc. about £12 total bought in the slaes last Jan! Then a tub of celebrations that they each pick one out of when they open their window each day (£4) Must admit I'm a bit old fashioned in this area!
Personally I dont like the idea of expensive advent calendars with actual gifts in, it seems excessive to me and would prefer to save gifts for Christmas morning.

nellyburt · 05/12/2020 09:53

Ok so my amount is more than I want to add up but

Me:
Liberty approx £200 from DH
Gin £50 from my DM

DH
Nespresso £30 from me

DC1
Nail varnish £60 from DGM part of Xmas present

Lindt £10 from me

DC2
Funko pop £50 from DGM as part of Xmas present

Lindt £10 from me

No guilt here.

Aragog · 05/12/2020 09:56

Lindt one for dh was about £5 I think; came with my supermarket shopping.
Mine is a hotel Chocolat one and they were 2 for £10. Got two (dd can have the other when she gets home from university) as they were £8 for 1 for the extra £2 was a bonus.

However dd does have a more expensive one. She has a Breweog beer one which was £50. More extravagant but after this year ...

Elfieishere · 05/12/2020 09:57

£30 for 2 kids

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 05/12/2020 10:56

Dd1 has the funko nightmare befire Christmas one - she got it as part of her November birthday gifts. Its one if her favourite films!

Dd2 has the reusable one i got from tiger for £5 several years ago. I bought some santa lollies from aldi 89p and a bundle of lol dolls £10 to fill it.

Inastatus · 05/12/2020 11:22

@SomewhereEast - “It’s just been an ah fuck it, lets get the cat an Advent calendar" kind of year. Love it 😂

LindaEllen · 05/12/2020 11:39

We just got the £1 ones from Asda. They do the job!

I absolutely love the body shop ones, but after this year I'm in no position to treat myself to one, so I haven't.
