How much have you spent on Advent Calendars?

As a child we just had a picture advent calendar to share. Not even a chocolate one.
I have been looking at the threads where you all share what your advent calendar reveals on the day, and feel like I’m missing out.
So I thought I’d treat my self to one (better late than never) but I am shocked by the price of some of them £80! And it may not even contain much that you’d use. And some of you have bought two or three for other family members.
So go on, shock me some more with how much you have spent this year.

£40 - a Playmobil one each for the 2 DC.

katy1213 · 03/12/2020 20:38

Nothing. I'm a grown-up. Commercialism gone mad.

It is actually ridiculous. I don't have an advent calendar as I'd feel a bit silly having one as an adult. I am amazed people are spending hundreds on them. More money than sense.
dementedma · 03/12/2020 20:41

Bloody hell, this thread is an eye opener. I buy one with picture windows each year( no chocolate or gifts) and thats it. People really buy advent calendars for dogs and cats?

whatsoccuringnow · 03/12/2020 20:44

3 euro for 2

1.50 each for a snowman and father Christmas one (as in raymond briggs) from local Dealz store. Last year I bought peppa and playmobil ones which were about 50 euro for both.

Guess which ones have yielded more excitement. Yep. The cheap ones.

I'm really trying to cut back this year, coronavirus has taught me my kids are much happier with simple stuff and more of my time.

Onthelowdown · 03/12/2020 20:46

£414.44. Beauty advent calendars. My excuse is that it’s been a rough year.

hiredandsqueak · 03/12/2020 20:54

£10 2x malteaser, 2x Dairy Milk and 1x Dairy Milk white for my now adult dc and dgs

DontCryForMeNextdoorNeighbour · 03/12/2020 20:59

£4.60: £2 for a regular one (vegan) plus £2.60 for vegan choc coins to put in a wooden drawer one

MaudHatter · 03/12/2020 21:00

£0 . I did buy a wooden tree one from the range but I’d forgotten to get it out .

Bubbletrouble43 · 03/12/2020 21:00

I splash out twenty odd quid on a toy advent calendar for my twins but that's because their birthday is 1st December and it's a birthday present. Dc 1 now grown up just had a 2 quid chocolate affair.

NeedToKnow101 · 03/12/2020 21:04

I loved those picture ones when I was small.
Spent £2 on a chocolate one this year.
One year I bought DS a naked marshmallow one with a little cooker for about £20. It was brilliant.

KittenCalledBob · 03/12/2020 21:06

3 x £2.50 choc advent calendars for the three DC
Nothing for me or DH

XmasLockdown · 03/12/2020 21:13

£132 for beauty advent calendars for me.
£45 Lego advent calendars for dc
£10 bath bomb calendar for dd

In addition to these we were gifted wine calendar and couple of chocolate ones.

Sherin18 · 03/12/2020 21:15

£2 on a chocolate one for DD

ginislife · 03/12/2020 21:21

£40 on Revolution Make Up one for FS who is 18 today so it's sort of part of his birthday present - doing media make up at college. It's been great so far.

£35 on the FM perfume one for me but wouldn't buy again.

£5 each on a Quality Street one cos you have to have chocolate as well !!

So £85 in total. I spent that just on a Decleor one last year for me !!

I looked at the Espa one but it was £175 !!! No way.

biggledy · 03/12/2020 21:25

£20 x 2 lego advent calendars.
I'd rather spend more on these sort than the £2 sweets/chocolates ones. They love it, running downstairs every morning to open.

floridapalmtree · 03/12/2020 21:29

£330 for two daughters living away from home at uni and work.

It has been a tough year and they have been lonely and miserable and missed family and home so I thought it would be really nice to open a present each day, they have been absolutely delighted each morning.

I bought one John Lewis beauty calendar and divided it between the two. Then bought other useful products like lip balm, body scrub, body moisturiser, socks, etc which they need and use so nothing wasteful and also a few chocolates.

GlitterandBalloons · 03/12/2020 21:30

89p in the bargain store

JiltedJohnsJulie · 03/12/2020 21:36

£5 onDD which is more than I usually spend. £3 on DS and £2 on a couple fir the night shelter.

Rosehassometoes · 03/12/2020 21:39

£73 in total for 3 children.
2 Lego
1 book
3 chocolate

LadyFlumpalot · 03/12/2020 21:42

@Beamur

£150. You read that right. It's DH's main Christmas present. A whiskey advent calendar. He's very pleased with it.
I got DH one of these as well! Masters of Malt one? It's really good!

They also do a subscription based tasting set which I bought him 3 months worth for his birthday back in June.

TheRubyRedshoes · 03/12/2020 21:45

About a 5 ver each on crap chocolate one and 20 on a playmobile one.
. To be honest I don't think you can buy that delight of the old picture ones...

goose1964 · 03/12/2020 21:45

£20 it's a Yankee Candle one and it worked out cheaper than buying single candles.

LadyFlumpalot · 03/12/2020 21:47

£150 on a whiskey one for DH. £2 each in on the DCs chocolate one.

DH spent about £20 on mine, filling a wall hanging fabric one my mum made me when I was a baby. It's been put away in the garage since she passed away as I couldn't face it but this year he's got it out, put it up and filled it for me. Little chocolates and something to remind me of my mum or a little note every day.

InTheCludgie · 03/12/2020 21:52

£7 total - a Heroes one for DS, Dairy Milk and Barbie ones for DD and another Dairy Milk for DH and I to share
