How much have you spent on Advent Calendars?

As a child we just had a picture advent calendar to share. Not even a chocolate one.
I have been looking at the threads where you all share what your advent calendar reveals on the day, and feel like I’m missing out.
So I thought I’d treat my self to one (better late than never) but I am shocked by the price of some of them £80! And it may not even contain much that you’d use. And some of you have bought two or three for other family members.
So go on, shock me some more with how much you have spent this year.

I usually get my DC a beautiful picture advent like I used to have which they love. Usually spend up to £10. This year I decided to treat them. My DS has the Pokemon one and my DD the Crayola one. They were £30 each which I agree is an awful lot. But they are really enjoying them. I'm particularly impressed with the Crayola one as it comes with a pack of activities to go with the stationery. So first day was a scented felt tip and a wordsearch. Yesterday was a paint set and paint by numbers picture and today a glitter prittstick and FC model. It's been keeping her busy after school.

£40 H&B one for me
£40 Beer one for DH
£12 Lindt for DD

Its the first year I've bothered for myself and I love it. Will probably get the Cult Beauty or Lumene one next year along with H&B

I am often tempted by the LEGO ones but they are $40 and hardly anything in them. Luckily I talked myself out of it.

We do reusable calendars. John Lewis wooden house I put a small choc in for each dc, costs about $4 to fill.

A Felt advent tree which has felt ‘ornaments’ for each day, dc take it in turns.

I did treat DH and me to a gin calendar this year, it wasn’t much more than buying a bottle and more fun. $60

16 quid on a discounted Lego one for DC to share, and 2 quid on sweets to go in calendar made by DM many years ago.

Frenchdressing · 03/12/2020 19:38

2 x £2 chocolate ones. I can’t be bothered with them tbh. Just something else to spaff money on. The beauty calendars cost a ridiculous amount.

momonpurpose · 03/12/2020 19:38

20 US dollars. It is a Yu Gi Oh one and each day it is a card to collect. My daughter loves Yu Gi Oh so it was worth it to me

BigSandyBalls2015 · 03/12/2020 19:40

I bought DD a make up one, Benefit (£50ish I think), DH bought me a sock one (£25).

MilkRunningOutAgain · 03/12/2020 19:40

£40 makeup one for DD (counting as part of her Christmas presents), cheap heroes one for DS and DH bought me a Hotel Chocolat one unexpectedly which is great. First time I’ve ever bought an expensive advent calendar but this is not a usual year and DD is now 14, has been brilliant through lockdown and difficult autumn term, and she fancied one.

MojoJojo71 · 03/12/2020 19:58

We have a reusable one that I fill with miniature heroes from a tin that my parents always buy me. This year I also spent £10 on a mr men/little miss book advent calendar

itsgettingweird · 03/12/2020 20:07

£1 each!

Both white chocolate ones.

Then we have the Lego city one I brought ds one year when he didn't want/need much for Xmas and it was under my budget.

It gets out every year and we make a different scene. It was £40 and it's on its 8th year!

weshallneversurrender · 03/12/2020 20:09

£2 and £3, both chocolate ones!

sanityisamyth · 03/12/2020 20:09

£20 for the Lego calendar for DS
My parents have bought him chocolate ones as well. Lucky lad.

JanewaysBun · 03/12/2020 20:12

Mine are sharing a picture one, they don't need more shit!

Doozy1991 · 03/12/2020 20:12

£55 in total

£25 Harry Potter lego one for OH
£28 on scratchcards for me (£1 one a day and a £5 one on Xmas eve)
£2 galaxy one for DD (her choice)

itsgettingweird · 03/12/2020 20:13

I actually think it's so true about no Santa, panto, Xmas meal, cinema to see Xmas film (usually we do meal and 1 activity)

I really wanted a HP Lego one for me but didn't because of cost.

But as had panto money etc I have ordered ds and I new pillows each from Santa! And a HP puzzle to do from Santa! (Black Friday deal!)

Ds is 16 but he'll find it hilarious to have massive parcels (there's 8 pillows) under the tree from Santa. There's only me and him so I wanted to do something special and different. So I can see why people have done the same re advent calendars.

Brokenchair1 · 03/12/2020 20:15

£15 smiggle one for DD and DG gave her a £1 chocolate one. Nothing for me :(

Zoflorabore · 03/12/2020 20:18

For dd (9) £15 on a Harry Potter one and £16 on a Smiggle advent calendar that should have been £28.

I bought a wax melts one for myself for £15 from a lady I’ve been buying melts from for 3 years.

Ds (17) didn’t want one for the first time.

myhobbyisouting · 03/12/2020 20:20

£1 each for the kids

£4 for DP

£5 scratchcard one for me Grin

Hohomerryxmas · 03/12/2020 20:20

Around £30 each on the DC, they got a lego and a harribo one each.

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 03/12/2020 20:21

£6 in total 2 dc

sofiaaaaaa · 03/12/2020 20:24

I just bought chocolate ones for minimal £. Literally only a few quid as Vodafone had a free Tesco offer.

None of the beauty calendars interest me as I have a massive amount of makeup and all of them contain dupes of some sortBlush generally I don’t wait for birthdays or Christmas for big purchases as we’re well off, so I haven’t come across an advent calendar that would be a special surprise yet.

riddles26 · 03/12/2020 20:27

£20 2 years ago on 2 wooden reusable ones that we fill each year for thr children.

This year about £30 in total for contents but we fill with a mixture of chocolate/sweet treats, craft activities, small toys, baking and experiences. Trips and experiences usually are the biggest part of our xmas budget (we don't give big presents) but sadly most are cancelled this yearq.

Eileen101 · 03/12/2020 20:34

£5 on a sticker nativity from the garden centre. Would have liked to get the Thomas the tank engine one with the miniature trains, but no way was I spending £20.

Lyricallie · 03/12/2020 20:34

£75 for the birchbox one, mainly because I wanted it. Probably won't buy it again next year but thought why not. I'm enjoying it so far!

Fiance bought himself a coffee one for £30 and he is loving life with it.

However we don't have any children and very low bills.

Selmaselma · 03/12/2020 20:36

£20 for a Lego one and £15 for a Lindt one.
