Presents for teenage DS

There’s a fabulous thread running where the OP asked for present suggestions for her hard-to-buy-for teen DD and got some great suggestions. Some unisex, but many girl-specific.

Can we have one for a DS too please?? I have 15 and 16 yo boys who have pretty much everything technology and game-wise, and don’t need more clothes or hobby stuff and can’t think of anything they want. Why doesn’t MN have an eye roll emoji?

So what are you getting your teen DSs??

Ds has asked for LED lights for his room and a head massager Grin

UndertheCedartree · 21/11/2020 22:17

My teen is into Pokemon so lots of the cards, a tin and album to keep them in and t-shirts, pjs and socks. Someone reccomended Japan centre - I've ordered Pokemon soft drinks and sweets! Even if they don't like Pokemon lots of teens like Japanese or American treats.

Is there a book series they are reading you can add to? Or non-fiction subjects they would be interested in? Other things I've got my teen is the One Night a Werewolf card game, a calendar and lots of shower stuff, aftershave etc as he likes keeping clean. I've put a Costa giftcard in his stocking.

Ginandplatonic · 21/11/2020 22:28

@UndertheCedartree one of them does like Pokémon but I think he is pretty much all Pokémon-ed up! I will have a look at other Japanese culture things though, thanks. He is not a great reader unfortunately, I would love to find something to spark his interest though. We have pretty much every teen/young adult fantasy series in existence from his older brothers and he’s not interested. Might have a look at Manga stuff.

@GhostTypeEevee we have one of those weird spider looking head massagers - they love it. Lights for his room might be good - he spends most of his life there.

Ds 15 and Ds 17.
Got strip lights for their desks when I decorate for christmas.
Joint present x box x and s series.
Ds17 wants his own blue Xbox controller. X box games. Hoodies from Hollister. Cash.
Ds15 x box games, guitar tuner and amp, Cash.
Probably a charging station each for their ipads, iPhones and earpods.

LucyLem0nade · 21/11/2020 22:55

I have really struggled with my DS who will be 14 come Christmas - this is because he literally has everything and not because he doesn't want anything!

But I think I've done OK with what I managed to get ... it looks like a lot maybe (it is a lot!) but it may give you some ideas

His main gifts ..

A bespoke Xbox controller - this was £150 but looks amazing

A Razr Overwatch headset - managed to get this for £120 instead of £220

Light up keyboard

Razr mouse

Other bits ...

Box of fiddle toys (he loves fiddling with stuff!)

Fiddle cube

Thera Putty

Magnetic putty

Adidas hoodie

Nike track pants

Rubik's cube (he has 20 odd but this is a new design!)

Extra large cloth mouse mat

Oodie

Various Funko pops from My Hero Acadamia

Shaun of the dead dvd as he loves that film

Yu yu hot water bottle

Mini fridge

Various selection boxes/ Oreo tin / 1kg jar of Percy pigs / 50 Japanese Kit Kats

So he's about finished now

Gotheeunicorns · 21/11/2020 23:06

My 15 year old ds has:
Nike Air Force ones
A super dry hoodie
A hockey training thing
A gaming keyboard and mouse
A set of dumbells
His stocking is:
Pokemon cards
Thumb things that go on the xbox controller
Hockey socks, shin guards and training balls
A smellie set
A hat
Book
Jelly beans

Ginandplatonic · 21/11/2020 23:12

Thanks all - I am in awe at how organised you all are having so much already!

Lots of your lists have been on their previous birthday/Christmas lists so definitely on the right track!

I guess it’s a sign they have too much stuff when even the teens themselves can’t think of anything left to ask for...

Wow there is some serious money being spent here. Confused

Frankley · 21/11/2020 23:20

A Vampire or Skull goblet from English Heritage site.

LucyLem0nade · 21/11/2020 23:24

@Fabvegetablegrower excellent contribution to the thread

Serin · 21/11/2020 23:25

Japanese sweets.
Pokemon paint by numbers.
Baking kit.
Monopoly deal.
Glass eco coffee cup.
Hiking boots.
Bag.

AlwaysLatte · 21/11/2020 23:33

Following!
Some things we bought last year:
Lots of video games 🙈
Mathmos lava lamp
LED lights
Gaming chair
Sherpa hoodie (like Oodie)
Lush bath bombs
Books (Hunger games series)
Knot free earphones
Touchscreen gloves
XBox gaming light
Harry Potter glass

AlwaysLatte · 21/11/2020 23:35

Oh yes I forgot the design-your-own Xbox controller - we got him to choose his design beforehand so it was his choice but obviously not a surprise. He still loves it nearly a year later.

AlwaysLatte · 21/11/2020 23:38

Has anyone managed to get the Xbox series x successfully yet? They've both put it on their list this year and I can't find them anywhere!!!

Fabvegetablegrower · 21/11/2020 23:43

@LucyLem0nade Touché

LucyLem0nade · 21/11/2020 23:45

@Fabvegetablegrower what are you talking about? On a post specifically asking for ideas for teenage boys for Christmas, I contributed properly.

Your contribution was to comment that lots of money was being spent by people. If you can't help, then why open the thread? Go and find some frugal one where you can maybe positively contribute instead of trying to piss all over this one. Bore off

Chickenitalia · 21/11/2020 23:46

The series x sold out in preorder back in October. I don’t think there’s any definite info on more being available any time soon. Get yourself on every email list showing interest and cross everything.

DH had 4 screens open with multiple websites and me logging in with separate email addresses on the preorder day, they sold out in 30 mins. It’s been one of the few positives of this year, that we actually got one.

Ginandplatonic · 21/11/2020 23:47

These are all right up their alley - thank you!

All I have got them so far is a full length mirror for DS16 (the only thing on his list) and for DS15 who loves finding new cafes that do “extreme” milkshakes a book of “recipes” for Freakshakes, and some milkshake glasses and bits and pieces to make them with. So he can make hideous massive milkshakes for Christmas breakfast! Grin

@AlwaysLatte a previous year when the VR gaming thing they wanted had sold out I ordered it and printed a picture of it and put it in several layers of wrapped boxes plus got some games/accessories to have something to give them at Christmas. Sounds a bit lame, but they were happy and had something to look forward to when the madness was over.

OP posts:
jessstan1 · 21/11/2020 23:59

Mine was very musical and into computers at that age (still is at 41), and was happy with anything related to either if he didn't already have it. There is usually something new that they want, or something rare. Concert tickets too but that's when there is no pandemic of course, not this year.

Grandparents used to give him money. Teenagers always like cash to spend when they go out socialising; at the moment they can save it for when they are free again :-).

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 00:08

Ok, just ordered them both an Oodie. They will love them. Smile

janetmendoza · 22/11/2020 02:23

ds who is a bit older wants one of these, which are super cool but bloody expensive..
ultrasabers.com/product/electrum-wind/ build your own lightsabres
cufflinks
a shed load of clothes that he can try on and I get to return those he rejects, as he hasn't been able to go shopping like the rest of us for ages.
An elder scrolls cookbook
echo dot clock
He would also not say no to a phone and pc upgrade

TheSunIsStillShining · 22/11/2020 02:40

Ours (15) will get:

  • gaming chair (necessity)
  • japanese steak knife
  • steak board
  • iron maiden t-shirt
  • khemmis poster (doom rock)
Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 02:58

@janetmendoza the Echo Dot looks good - that might work for one of them. The lightsaber does look cool!

@TheSunIsStillShining just had to Google Doom rock - now I’m depressed! Hope he listens with headphones! I have earmarked a set of Japanese cooking knives in a knife roll for 20 yo uni student DS’s 21st.

Ds14 wants a new tennis racket but that's all he's asked for apart from Xbox vouchers.
I saw and liked on the DD thread a puzzle box idea for when giving cash.
I like the idea of an oodie as he is always in him pjs.
Following the rest of the thread with interest.
