Thread 20 - the one with the reminder to put the bargain info *in bold*

Reastie · 15/11/2020 21:49

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks
@Whyisitsodifficult The copics are supposed to be amazing, they will set him up in good stead for the future as well if he wants to be an illustrator- they are professional quality and alcohol markers don't dry up if the lids are put on properly and they are stored flat rather than on their ends, I'm still using markers I bought around 15 years ago and they are as good as new. Copies like the amazon ones linked won't be any good in comparison.

Paper wise, Copic do their own marker pen paper, or Windsor and Newton do a marker pad too which is coated on one side so the ink doesn't bleed through, and means he can do blending techniques as the ink doesn't sink in. Using absorbent paper means the markers get used up quicker and dont blend so well. I haven't found a better marker paper myself than this one. ]] It can be found in loads of art places, the range, and WHSmiths, and comes in a3 as well as a4. Digital drawing tablets are nothing like actual paper drawing, so I would recommend he stays with physical illustrating and develops his skills that way, it'll open up more opportunities through fine art and so on as well as he gets older and refines his style.
Thank you, he’s not mentioned special paper so he’ll love that. I also didn’t know about storing them flat, great tip.

@BeaLola one thing I would suggest would be a sleeping bag / gro bag next size up so 6 -12 months in 1 tog - as they won’t have bought it yet and will definitely be used.

Legume · 17/11/2020 22:56

@Sunshineskies

Does anyone have a unidays code I could use for hobbycraft by any chance please? I’ve searched for discount codes but can’t find any, I think student discount is all they’re doing at the moment. I did manage to find one for The Works if anyone’s interested. It’s PREF20 for 20% off. There’s free delivery over £30.

Do any PP know how long the urban decay offer is on for? waiting for cash in my account!

Sunshineskies · 17/11/2020 23:04

Thank you for the hobbycraft codes, three lovely posters replied. I love this thread so much, always cheers me up with all the thoughtful, generous posters going out of their way with codes, suggestions, offers to post things etc 😢 Flowers

Ok been a bit hesitant asking this one as I WILL sound like a weirdo...but... I am pretty much confined to my small bedroom due to health issues.

I didn't bother last year and i regretted in the end, I'm hoping you lovely lot can help me find a reasonable priced "tree" that I can hang on the wall or maybe stick to the window. Needs to be light and easy to hang but I would like it to look like a proper green Xmas tree.

I'm thinking like a paper pop up type deal? Or window sticker? Like a stained glass type look? I've no idea how to search for this!

Really hoping you guys can help

mummabear74 · 17/11/2020 23:23

@DillieDoily I've been watching for the half price panettone. Not sure if they are doing them

BicycleMadeForTwo · 17/11/2020 23:26

@Graphista Something like this from eBay? You can add lights to it too

Before I drift away, thank you @GiantKitten for iamfy website. Other pp also have mentioned this and I must say it’s spot on. Already purchased not one but three prints. But I really should stop buying things now😀

Graphista · 17/11/2020 23:35

Yea something like that maybe a bit flatter? Can't use eBay though (long story!)

BicycleMadeForTwo · 17/11/2020 23:39

@Graphista It’s totally flat, they’ve just added lights behind it in that pic. They have them on Amazon too

@Graphista

I found this on Wish. Maybe not realistic enough though.

deeplybaffled · 17/11/2020 23:41

Can anyone recommend any good books on Norse / Greek / roman legends for a 6 year old, please?
And a musical instrument for a two year old that won’t sever my friendship with his mother??

TheCrow · 17/11/2020 23:46

@deeplybaffled how about a floor piano mat?

Theonlyoneiknow · 17/11/2020 23:47

I have left this a bit late (well I didn't think I had but it would seem I have!) but I can't find a Lego Star Wars advent calendar anywhere! Lost the last hour googling like mad but to no avail so might have to search in town (urgh). Don't suppose anyone has seen online at all? Many Thanks!

Sunshineskies · 17/11/2020 23:48

Another ask, sorry! Can I ask for your children’s favourite Christmas books please? There were lots of great ones recommended on an earlier thread which I ignored because I didn’t think we’d be getting any more, however dd age 7 has specifically asked for a Christmas book. We already have (and adore!) Christmas on Exeter Street which I bought about seven years ago after being recommended it on these threads.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 17/11/2020 23:48

I like these too

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts
This sounds just like my daughter! I’ve got her the Five nights of Freddie board game from
Smyths toy store, roller blades, skateboard, art stuff, stranger things items, kawaii subscription box (mix of kawaii stuff). Stocking fillers- how about one of these Bookmarks or these Paw socks
My daughter is also looking to make a fur suit so stuff to make that is her main gift.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 17/11/2020 23:51

@Theonlyoneiknow

Looks available on Selfridges website for £25?

Graphista · 17/11/2020 23:51

A wall decal would be perfect

@deeplybaffled the books a pp mentioned and I referred to contain some of that ilk

The Iliad

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Iliad-Macmillan-Collectors-Library/dp/1529015006/ref=mpssa111?dchild=1&keywords=macmillan+collector%27s+library+the+iliad&qid=1605656931&sr=8-1

Aesop's fables

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aesops-Fables-Macmillan-Collectors-Library/dp/1509844368/ref=mpssa111?dchild=1&keywords=macmillan+collector%27s+library+aesop&qid=1605656969&sr=8-1

There are usborne books in this realm too on amazon they're generally good

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 17/11/2020 23:53

@Sunshineskies

Jolly Christmas Postman gets my vote!

I can't find one online but if you have a Dobbies garden centre near you I saw them there last week
DoomPoodle · 18/11/2020 00:00

Can anyone recommend a pair of reasonably bargainous mens fluffy pyjamas? Eldest DS wants a fluffy 2 piece set. I've got them before from Primark, but it's unlikely I'll get there once they re-open.
