Thread 20 - the one with the reminder to put the bargain info *in bold*

Reastie · 15/11/2020 21:49

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks
@bealola

I loved giant muslins when babies were tiny but both summer born - not sure they would get as much use in winter. My go to is a Close pop-in playmat, depending on budget. Loads of beautiful designs but cheapest i can see is the parrot one here If you find something for a couple of pound will be free postage too. One thing I wished I had bought sooner and will be used for years to come as a picnic blanket etc too. Ignore the one bizarre review incidently - the poppers are on the pic, part of the appeal and not remotely sharp lol
I used muslins loads with winter babies but then they were mainly for mopping up puke, lying on when out and about, emergency changing mat etc.

Do Celtic and co ever do Black Friday deals?

SecretDancer · 17/11/2020 21:06

I'm looking for a camera for a 4yo.

I've looked at VTech kiddizoom but would prefer it not to have games built in, does anyone have any recommendations? Rechargeable would be even better

EverybodyKeepCool · 17/11/2020 21:07

Some really good deals on Urban Decay but can't use any other discount with the offers. 40% off palettes, 40% off mascara and 30% off everything else

CoffeeAndEnnui · 17/11/2020 21:16

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts, Magic 8 Ball, DVD of Nightmare Before Christmas or Edward Scissorhands, tarot cards, healing crystals, cuddly bat toy, essential oil roller (Tisserand do nice ones), mini intro to crystals book, quill pen.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 17/11/2020 21:22

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts, for bigger pressies you're probably too let for the sloth Oodie now but I just this week ordered a really cool horror film hooded blanket for a friend. Mine was from Ali Express but they're available via eBay and Amazon too. Shipping time might be tight but they're not too pricey and look v.cool.

Could combine with a Clothbound Classic copy of Dracula or Frankenstein (loved both when I was that age) and a creepy cup. I got same friend a Hidden Creatures cup with an octopus hiding at the bottom last year and I'm sure they had a skull one too. Or Magpie have a real heart heart cup that's pretty funky.

XmasLockdown Thank you so much for the Asda sale tip. I've just seen that mytortoisemind has also just posted it too. I've just saved £25 on a Harry Potter Lego set my ds wants. Great bargain, it's made my evening! Grin

Raindropsonrosesand · 17/11/2020 21:28

How careful vs clumsy is your 4yo @secretdancer? We got DD a camera at about that age and after lots of research ended up getting her a normal compact camera, 2nd hand from ebay. Costs about the same as a kiddy one but has a much better zoom, and is nicer to use. DD is quite a careful child though, and we were confident it wouldn't be thrown around much. We likewise didn't want the games or the image manipulation.

DD is almost 8 now, and really enjoys taking photos. Usually tries to borrow her Dad's SLR now!

@sugarplumfairy2010

Thank you i went for the nutcracker ones from next. Now looking for spiced rum minatures for my dh stocking if anyone can help.
Ooh, Sainsburys had some when I went in there recently. They had a super selection of miniatures and I noticed this one which I bought for my BIL www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/miniatures-and-gifting/the-kraken-black-spiced-rum-5cl-miniature-

Do Celtic and co ever do Black Friday deals?
I posted this morning, £20 off a £20 spend with code FESTIVE20
1122christy · 17/11/2020 21:36

Not sure if this interests anyone but I was wanting to get my dad a tassimo machine so when I went on their website they do a deal where if you do a subscription you get a machine for £1. Depends what package you go for and it is a 12 month contract. I got 9 packages of coffee (you get to choose) which will come every 4 months (you can change each time) plus a machine all for £40.
I have seen the machine reduced to £30 in curries etc but with 9 packs of coffee I thought pretty good.
Tassimo coffee packages usually price between £3-5 so thought this was quite a good deal. Il give most of the coffees as a gift with the machine. I just need to remember to cancel after a year! Iv had a tassimo for years and I love it.

Oh and don't forget to go through topcashback they are offering over 6% for tassimo

Changingagain · 17/11/2020 21:41

secretdancer my dm gave my son an old digital camera of hers when he was 3 and it's been great. Completely free, takes good photos, surprisingly robust, and ds is happy to be using a real camera rather than a toy.

Does anyone know if Smyths tend to do a discount code for black friday, or is it more likely they'll just have selected items reduced?

Elphaba17 · 17/11/2020 21:59

@GirlWithTheYellowHat

Does anyone have code for the vans website. I can get a 10% code if I join the mailing list but wasn't sure if there was anything better out there.

I'm struggling to get the size on any other site so having to go direct. Smile

20% off at Van's with code VANS20OFF-B28MD-DG34U

Delivery is free and my last two orders have arrived super quick too.

DillieDoily · 17/11/2020 22:00

Have I missed the half price crackers at Waitrose this year? I buy them every year as they are actually half price (unlike other shops who have never actually sold them full price- Dobbies and Debenhams I'm looking at you!)

herecomesthsun · 17/11/2020 22:03

half price crackers on line today

SpamIAm · 17/11/2020 22:10

@bettyskitchen I bought DD one of those cameras last Christmas - the battery life is shocking.

whoknows1230 · 17/11/2020 22:23

If anybody sees the Lego London set at a reasonable price/on a Lightening Deal please can you give me a nudge.

I should have bought it from Amazon.fr when it was mentioned in one of the early threads but was too indecisive and it's now been out of stock for several weeks on there Sad

Sunshineskies · 17/11/2020 22:23

Does anyone have a unidays code I could use for hobbycraft by any chance please? I’ve searched for discount codes but can’t find any, I think student discount is all they’re doing at the moment.
I did manage to find one for The Works if anyone’s interested. It’s PREF20 for 20% off. There’s free delivery over £30.

@wildroseandpink, if Asda can't sort it out, try Crafty Giraffe. They have lots of different wooden dog breed tree decorations so they may have a sausage dog.

Although it was a couple of years ago I last ordered from them, the tree decs I got were lovely,

Graphista · 17/11/2020 22:38

Ffs did a long post and it's gone! Hate when that happens!

BREAD ITEMS

I found by searching "bread gifts" -

Personalised bread bags
Bread slippers
Bread plush
Bread scented candle

GOTHIC ITEMS FOR THE 12 yr old I think it was?

The Macmillan collectors books as mentioned upthread on Amazon have a ton of gothic and horror titles

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Frankenstein-Macmillan-Collectors-Library-Shelley/dp/1509827757/ref=mpssa111?dchild=1&keywords=macmillan+collectors+library+frankenstein&qid=1605652527&sr=8-

That's the link to Frankenstein

But there's also ghost story anthologies (inc Poe), Dracula, northanger abbey, wuthering heights etc and they look lovely books with gold edging and placemarking ribbon at very reasonable prices

Can't remember what else I said now! Angry

Thanks to all who've posted ideas and links for me too!
