Just that really, if you have anything at all in the morning / before the dinner, what is it?

Scrambled egg and salmon on toast.

Used to be a real treat breakfast but we eat smoked salmon all the time now. The tradition has however stuck.

We have it with Buck's Fizz. Yum!!

@KihoBebiluPute

If we are having the main meal with DP's mum we will be eating at 12 noon on the dot so breakfast must be light. I have chocolate granola. As a special extra I sometimes get some gold-top Jersey milk to go with it, and proper orange juice with bits in.

If anyone else is catering (including me) then the main meal won't be till mid-afternoon or early evening so breakfast must be more substantial. But also can't make too much mess. I sometimes do eggy bread or pancakes, or make something like huevos rancheros, or avocado and poached eggs on toast.

God that's early for Christmas dinner!

Pancakes with maple syrup, bacon and egg. We usually go to friends for champagne so it soaks it up. Then will have Christmas lunch around 3pm.

wasthataburp · 11/11/2020 21:30

Pastries or sausage rolls hot from the oven and a bottle of Abel Charlotte champagne from M&M

wasthataburp · 11/11/2020 21:30

*M&S

My internet went down and just signed in to see all the replies Grin rubbish timing as I'm off to bed and now starving!
For those that do pastries, croissants etc, do you make them? Or buy them the day before?

Scrambled egg and smoked salmon, or eggs royale with a glass of champagne. Filling enough to last until Christmas dinner but not too heavy/greasy. DH insisted a full English was a good idea ( pre DS) , dinner was with my family that year and not until about 3 but we both struggled! might've been the bottle of champagne we had with it

RoseMartha · 12/11/2020 00:01

Porridge or toast.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/11/2020 00:29

Smoked salmon, cream cheese, bagels.
Nice and easy.,
Cold sliced gammon has been popular with guests, too.
Whatever is very nice but hardly any faff, is what we like in this house..

wasthataburp · 12/11/2020 07:55

We just buy the frozen M&S pastries and Wack in the oven when we first get up! We also get nice sausage rolls from M&S and heat up in the oven too!

We also have a tub of quality street haha

thismeansnothing · 12/11/2020 08:00

We used to have (at DH) request nice smoked bacon butties on white crusty bread with butter. But last year I fancied a change and we had pastries, fruit salad and coffee and really enjoyed it so doing the same this year.

Deelish75 · 12/11/2020 12:51

You can buy them frozen and they take about 20mins to bake. I know M&S and Sainsbury’s sell them but I would think all the major supermarkets do.

InsanelyTired · 12/11/2020 13:35

I'm loving all these ideas thank you Smile seating more towards pastries and a fruit salad as the little ones will probably pick at that. I never knew about the frozen ones so will keep an eye out!

Delicious!

UndertheCedartree · 12/11/2020 18:39

@Deelish75 - I usually buy the pastries a couple of days before. But I was in M&S earlier and picked up some of their frozen ones so will try those this year.

Zofloratheexplora · 13/11/2020 12:03

Dh makes us a mini fry up, bacon rolls, a couple of hash browns and a fried egg.

Kids have cocopops followed by Nutella on toast. Once the cocopops and Nutella have run out they have to wait until we're on holiday or next Xmas 😬

DieCryHate · 13/11/2020 12:04

M&S extremely chocolatey biscuits in bed with a tea or coffee.

EmmaStone · 13/11/2020 12:53

Eggs Benedict/Florentine usually. Fresh fruit. Buck's Fizz (and also just juice, as actually most of the adults can't bear drinking at breakfast time, and we wait until present opening after breakfast).

Blancmang3 · 13/11/2020 13:05

If at home or PILs - either Scrambled eggs and salmon or french toast made with panettone or waffles
If at SIL's - toast

openupmyeagereyes · 15/11/2020 16:58

@Wroxie

We have something called breakfast casserole - basically a savoury bread pudding. You cook crumbled sausages out of their skins, mushrooms, and diced onions and peppers, and mix together in a big baking dish with big torn chunks of sourdough bread and grated cheese (emmenthal and cheddar mix is my fave). Pour over eggs mixed with single cream, salt, and pepper, and keep in the fridge overnight. It goes in the oven covered for an hour and then uncovered for 30-45 minutes in the morning. I like it better than the main Christmas meal, to be honest.
I’ve seen this done overnight in a slow cooker too on YouTube.
