Christmas Day breakfast - what do you have?

Just that really, if you have anything at all in the morning / before the dinner, what is it?

This thread is making me very much look forward to breakfast on Christmas day! It will be the first time in many years that I will be having breakfast with someone. I usually stay with family over Christmas and they never sit down to breakfast together, whether it's Christmas or not. They get up fairly early (about 6ish) and eat as soon at they are up. When I wake up a hour or two later, breakfast is a couple of slices of toast and marmalade, alone. Years ago I tried to get us to sit down together and have scrambled egg cooked by me, they didn't seem to enjoy or appreciate it much so I haven't bothered since.

This year due to Covid I will spend Xmas with my DP, and we have been thinking about what to have. I was thinking croissants and jam and buck's fizz would be good, but seeing cinnamon swirls mentioned has potentially changed my mind. Or perhaps croissants filled with tomato and pepper omelette which my DP sometimes makes us for Sunday breakfast.

Big bowl of fresh fruit salad. Croissants and pancakes, honey, jam, fresh juice and we buy the variety box of cereals as my girls think that's a right treat and nice change from their usual cheerios and toast mornings! 😁😉, fresh coffee to ☕👌😊

Goldenphoenix · 10/11/2020 19:11

Thick slices of home cooked ham with fried eggs. And posh orange juice. And cook from frozen croissants with butter and jam.

ivfbabymomma1 · 10/11/2020 19:11

Facon barms, chocolate & champagne 😍

GlumyGloomer · 10/11/2020 19:13

Can't remember what we did on previous years but this year I'm planning to make a Nadiya Hussain breakfast trifle. It's fruit compote, granola/brioche, yoghurt and cream. If nothing else I'll have fun making it Grin

Fatmermaid · 10/11/2020 19:14

Croissants, fruit juice, tea.

GameSetMatch · 10/11/2020 19:17

Buck’s Fizz and an oven bottom barm with quorn sausage and mushrooms.

Gordon Ramsay Eggs Benedict

mongoosebaby · 10/11/2020 19:25

@princessMaryaBolkonskaya I usually buy the ready made mint Bailey's, if you add your own creme de menthe you don't need much (teaspoon in a glass ful) but it does curdle (tasted fine though!)

Fouroclockonamarblemorning · 10/11/2020 19:27

@laudemio

Some combination of: Croissants and apricot jam Croissants with ham and cheese Pain au chocolat Smoked salmon blinis Smoked trout pate and blinis Scrambled egg Eggs royale Bucks fizz
I’m coming to yours for Christmas. Sounds fab!

Sausage butties for me followed by choc.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 10/11/2020 19:28

Bucks fizz
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toasted muffins (bacon for me as I hate salmon).

anyoldname76 · 10/11/2020 19:29

We don't have a big breakfast as we have our Christmas dinner at 1pm. Usually just croissants or bagels, something easy while the children are opening presents.

opinionatedfreak · 10/11/2020 19:29

Poached eggs on toast historically.

Made by my Dad. His poached eggs were a work of genius.

This will be the first year without him fussing around in the kitchen. Not looking forward to it.

Wroxie · 10/11/2020 19:29

We have something called breakfast casserole - basically a savoury bread pudding. You cook crumbled sausages out of their skins, mushrooms, and diced onions and peppers, and mix together in a big baking dish with big torn chunks of sourdough bread and grated cheese (emmenthal and cheddar mix is my fave). Pour over eggs mixed with single cream, salt, and pepper, and keep in the fridge overnight. It goes in the oven covered for an hour and then uncovered for 30-45 minutes in the morning. I like it better than the main Christmas meal, to be honest.

Pet8 · 10/11/2020 19:33

Tea and chocolate

sohypnotic · 10/11/2020 19:38

The frozen Croissants or Pain Au Chocolat that you bake at home - the M&S ones are fab. Shove them in before opening stockings, eat straight from over whilst still warm, and the crack on with the rest of the presents.

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 10/11/2020 19:39

Last year I made a pastry and Nutella Christmas tree with fruit salad, coffee and hot chocolate. The DDs have asked for it again this year.

Excitedforxmas · 10/11/2020 19:41

A selection box- doesn’t everyone?

MrsMiaWallis · 10/11/2020 19:44

I make myself smoked eel, with horseradish sour cream and grated beetroot on a blini. I look forward to it all year (swedish heritage)

Ooh an American friend introduced me to this kind of thing years ago ... it is delicious. Might do that this year, usually we have smoked salmon and sour cream blinis for adults and pastries for kids.
Pipandmum · 10/11/2020 19:51

Our Christmas dinner is around 5pm. We have French toast and bacon with maple syrup for breakfast which will sustain us until dinner. I find I don't get hungry when cooking anyway.

Gordonbennit · 10/11/2020 19:53

Chocolate Grin
