By this I mean my dad, he is the single hardest person to buy for. He would be happy with a bottle of wine, but I feel so mean when my parents and siblings have bits.

I have has some successes in the past upgrading his everyday items but I've run out of things to give. His favourite gift was a framed photo from my wedding but I only plan of getting married once so that's out!

What I'm asking is, should I just get him the wine? I have tried getting posher wine but he said not to bother. He does get over edibles that he enjoys.

I can't be alone?

Buy the wine, buy nibbles. If that’s what he wants then get him that!

Cheesypea · 09/11/2020 17:34

Your dads gift sounds like blisss to me. How about 2 bottles of wine!

ShipshapeShore · 09/11/2020 17:35

Get him the wine. Last year I got my Dad a 4 pack of shield soap and he was happy. He moans when you get him nice presents so I've given up!

Harmarsuperstar · 09/11/2020 17:36

Just get him what he wants?

SlippersForFlippers · 09/11/2020 17:36

What about an electronic photoframe and then he can have many pictures on it.

FlatScreenTV01 · 09/11/2020 17:37

Magazine subscription or newspaper?

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/11/2020 17:38

What about a fancy bottle opener, or a little somellier set? Dh got one a few years ago and it was a great gift.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 09/11/2020 17:39

Get him a case of wine. He sounds great - there's nothing worse than bei g bought bits when its not your thing and you're solvent enough to have already bought yourself everything you actually want! Bits are clutter with in-built emotional blackmail if you love the person who gave you them too much to regift/ give to charity...

helloxhristmas · 09/11/2020 17:39

Just get him the wine, get a case. Without wanting to sound like a test I have what I want and if I want something I can buy it. We ditched adult presents a long time ago and do a secret Santa for anyone eating together on the day.

Kids always get presents.

actiongirl1978 · 09/11/2020 17:40

Just get him a decent bottle of wine. A well chosen bottle that cost 20 or 30 would delight me far more than a corkscrew or a magazine subscription. When I tell people I don't want a present I mean it!

JuliaJohnston · 09/11/2020 17:41

He's told you what he's happy with, just give it to him. Some people just can't be doing with a load of toot they don't need.
Dress it up like this 😂

Thanks everyone, I think I will get him the wine!

He's a farmer so his hobbies are all around that, he has all he needs. He likes sport but he would rather watch updates on his Ipad than live. He'd tell me he has no time to read a magazine or a paper but he always knows what the top story on the BBC is!

There was a photo... 🤔

Serg · 09/11/2020 17:41

I’d love a nice bottle of wine! I hate “stuff”

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/11/2020 17:41

Round about Christmas a lot of the wine club types (naked, virgin etc) do special offers of a case. Often they ask you join (but can cancel straight away so you don’t get stuck with a fee) and ive got some cracking offers over the years.

ChrisPriss · 09/11/2020 17:41

Buy him 6 bottles of the sort of wine he likes - job done!

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 09/11/2020 17:42

Just get wine- nice wine.

We always say that we don't want anything- and get loads of stuff
Just respect what people ask for

I have had my corkscrew since 1990- screwpull. I must have been bought a dozen others in that time- all unwanted and unneeded gifts.

Ted27 · 09/11/2020 17:43

One of those subscriptions so he gets a different bottle every month

TeenPlusTwenties · 09/11/2020 17:43

My DPs just get a collection of little bits and bobs, as they really don't want 'stuff'.

Mortgageandmoney · 09/11/2020 17:43

Thanks everyone for the ideas. We don't have any children in our family so we do give adult gifts.

We got him a case last year, he was happy with it!

Do you know of any wine subscription services that do the wines your DF enjoys? You would still be gifting him wine, and I love the idea of getting presents outside of special dates. Feels like a much bigger treat than at Christmas or birthdays!

PurBal · 09/11/2020 17:45

Expensive wine?

Invisimamma · 09/11/2020 17:46

Some fancy glasses to drink the wine from?

Mortgageandmoney · 09/11/2020 17:46

I can see the photo, Julia.

Love it!

Definitely just get him the wine if that's what he wants .

My dad was similar . My brother and I always tried to get him other things to go with the wine we thought he'd like, books. dVDs etc

When we were cleaning out the house after he passed away last year we found several years Christmas presents sitting in the cupboard. The wine was always drunk Grin
