Fucking hell.

Ickabog · 08/11/2020 13:26

@Ywosdwos

Every year before that I have got non lego its never played with and I end up giving it to charity shop.. annoying. That is why its lego heavy
But as I said above if they're into Lego it doesn't need to just be sets. Let them learn how to make their own, learn how to use power functions, make MOCS, join LUGs. Just following instructions and building multiple Lego sets is boring for those who are really interested in Lego, there's so many other avenues for them to explore.
wallyb · 08/11/2020 13:27

I have also now learnt how expensive lego is as kids get older. I will have to break the cycle 😂😂

Scanner20 · 08/11/2020 13:28

If you are happy to gift your kids those gifts and have chosen and bought them then just go with it. You are right this year has been tough and Lego will keep them busy. I've no idea on how much Lego sets cost but like you said you've saved for it. Everyone does Christmas differently. I have got a few extras this year as the kids have played so much with the toys they have being indoors more and interests are changing as they get older. Have a lovely Christmas, I'd love to be your DD on Christmas morning Smile

But your title was ‘is it enough’?

wallyb · 08/11/2020 13:33

there’s nothing wrong with spoiling your kids if you can afford it, but don’t come on mumsnet all wide eyed making people feel bad that can’t throw three grand at their kids.

Tbf it doesn't make me feel bad at all. It's the OP choice what she wants to spend. I know I could spend more but I'm a bit tight.

That's enough for several lots of Christmas and Birthday presents, it's a ridiculous amount. You are also being very insensitive posting such a massive list at a time when many families will be struggling to provide even a fraction of that.

DS (15) says "Only £2000 worth of lego then" Grin

Winterfellismyhome · 08/11/2020 13:34

@10brokengreenbottles

How do you have the Roman Colosseum set already? It hasn't been released yet.

DS1 is hankering after it, but it may be beyond our budget - which has already increased above normal this year to accommodate Diagon Alley for DS3.

I cant even see it on their website. Wish and Amazon have fake versions though
Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 13:35

I got it off amazon.. thinking about it, may not be lego as it was like £40 ..

Well if you're buying 9,000 piece sets that haven't been released yet off Amazon then no wonder you've bought so many sets. Cheaper knock off versions are a fraction of the cost.
woodhill · 08/11/2020 13:37

Definitely enough😊

Do you have storage for all of it and do you have enough money for other things?

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 08/11/2020 13:37

Who cares what other people think. If anyone dared to comment on how much stuff my kids get, I’d either ignore them or tell them to mind their own business. They’re not paying so they don’t get a say. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anxioustoddler · 08/11/2020 13:37

I spent £50 this year on DC, if I could’ve afforded too I would’ve spent more. So no, I don’t think you’re spoiling them and certainly don’t think it’s not enough. Get them what you can afford, but also make sure they understand how fortunate they are.

The only problem with buying lots is the inevitable ‘I got this, this and this for Xmas’ to their friend who’s parents might have only been able to afford one.

If you instil a good nature in your children, then it does not matter what you buy them.

rocketspin · 08/11/2020 13:38

@Ywosdwos

Close to £3k for everything I think But again I save all year for this one day
That's what some people earn in 6 months. It's obscene even if you can afford it.
LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 08/11/2020 13:38

Have you thought about Lego? I hear that's great for kids...

Haha.. yeah lego would be a great idea

OP posts:
Ohdoleavemealone · 08/11/2020 13:40

To me it is a bit much but thats because mine will get half a dozen presents from family too and I don't have room to house all the crap.

If it works for you, it's fine.

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 13:40

Its not obscene to what I've seen on some of these posts however like I said I dont spend all year round. We just do Xmas big and one family holiday each year which we didn't do this year so happy Xmas to us... that is why its bigger than normal.

OP posts:
JulesM73 · 08/11/2020 13:40

If you can afford it then buy what you like.

These things always incite lots of feeling but it’s personal to everyone’s individual circumstances. We spend more on Christmas than others we know but then they spend more on birthdays than us.

The only thing I would want to make sure is that the children appreciate them.

Ickabog · 08/11/2020 13:40

@Ywosdwos

Again not being insenstivie.. I've seen people with bigger lists and I've never felt sad.. if u are sensitive to it then maybe u are the one with the issue not me.. I was putting up my list like a million people have before me... do u go on and moan at everyone that puts their list on here that is bigger than yours... grow up
If you don't like the replies, perhaps you shouldn't have started a thread asking if it's enough and if you're spoiling them...
BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 08/11/2020 13:41

I came on here to rant that my mum says I'm spoiling them

Yet you’ve hardly mentioned your mum.Confused

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 13:41

My kids never brag or talk about what they got or haven't got. The eldest grew up with us when we were both at uni and had nothing. Hes seen it from both ends.

OP posts:
Mylittlepony374 · 08/11/2020 13:41

Such a strange post. Asking "is it enough" then pulling up people for pointing out the humble brag nature given that you have to know that most kids get nowhere near that amount of presents. Saying it's to rant about your mum thinking you're spoiling them but you know many people will think the same. You buy whatever you want to buy, your prerogative. I just really don't understand why you would post this. Genuinely, what were you looking for as a response?
