Just what I said basically.

We are going to put one of our trees up today. We have an artificial one and always get a massive real one in the run up to Christmas.

My neighbour had already put her decs up, I'm late to the game.

Too early, or let's milk it for as long as possible?

I'd love to put mine up early but I like to give the house a full clean blitz first. I don't feel like I can fully clean with the trees up. Planning to make a start on the house this coming week though & may slowly start to put the room decorations on the mantel etc

whattodo2019 · 08/11/2020 10:26

Really??? why???

myhobbyisouting · 08/11/2020 10:28

Probably because they want to @whattodo2019

Go for it if it makes you happy OP. Why not?!

I also need to give the house a good clean first and won't do any Christmas movies, trees or music before December but that's just me.

userxx · 08/11/2020 10:30

Too early, or let's milk it for as long as possible?

About 5 weeks too early.

SpamIAm · 08/11/2020 10:30

I'd put mine up early but I imagine I'm going to spend the entirety of December stopping 1yo DS from pulling it down as it is 😂

MistyGreenAndBlue · 08/11/2020 10:39

Lots of people putting Christmas up early this year. I can see why too.
My mum has started her Christmas crafting. No tree yet though.

burglarbettybaby · 08/11/2020 10:41

I couldn't bear it but I can totally see the benefit this year of a bit of comfort and happiness from the sparkly lights

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/11/2020 10:42

Why not? It's too early for me but I don't begrudge anyone else doing it. This is the Christmas topic after all.

Dh is furloughed again & I think we're going to rearrange the living room so we can try the tree somewhere else this year.

diplodocusinermine · 08/11/2020 10:44

Won't a real on e be a dried up stick by the end of November? I noticed one of our local tree farms has already started cutting and have a pile of netted trees at the roadside - was a bit surprised!

diplodocusinermine · 08/11/2020 10:45

Sorry misread, see you're only putting the artificial one up now.

lazylinguist · 08/11/2020 10:49

I love Christmas, which why I don't want to dilute it by starting it 7 weeks early. Other people can put their trees up in August if they like, but I'd like to still be excited about mine by the time Christmas actually comes! If I'd needed some seasonal cheer, I would have decorated my house with autumnal stuff for October and November tbh. We're not even in winter yet, never mind Christmas!

Mindymomo · 08/11/2020 10:50

I put a Christmas film on tv the other day, but turned it off as I thought no, it’s a bit early yet.

I have my husband home retired this year, so hoping to sort out decorations properly this year, not just what comes down quickly. I’m sure we’ve got some that haven’t been used for years up in the loft.

Blerg · 08/11/2020 10:52

I think lots of people are doing this this year, and I can see why! I saw two fully decorated houses yesterday🎄

I will do it early but that means very start if December - house needs a giant sort out first.

why celebrate for longer when christmas is going to be so odd. No carol concerts, no big family gatherings, no pantomines, no midnight mass or christingle. Amazon increasing their wealth even further as we are not allowed to go into non essential gift shops, but can just click to donate directly to Bezos for our tat.

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 08/11/2020 10:54

I can totally understand your logic op; it makes sense with this year being so depressing and would cheer things up! I can't wait to put ours up. House seems abit bare since halloween ones came down but we have acouple of birthdays to celebrate first so will wait until December....

Floralnomad · 08/11/2020 10:57

For me the first week of December is plenty early enough , we love Christmas but I’m sure if I put trees up now I’d be getting fed up of them by the actual day . Tempted to get the mouse nativity out though .

SquirtleSquad · 08/11/2020 10:59

My house will be fully decorated by next week, we have a very young family member who was undergoing intensive cancer treatment last year in protective isolation and didn't have a Christmas at all last year, didn't see a single decoration and wasn't allowed to see anyone or have anything bought in - so this year we are going all out for them and it will be a wonderland for as long as they want. I'm also very excited for them and can't wait.

DolphinsAreEvil · 08/11/2020 11:03

I put my main tree up yesterday, and will put the Christmas ornaments and second tree up today. It will really lift the mood in our house 😀

Elmo230885 · 08/11/2020 11:07

Mine is out of the attic and in the living room. My plan is to leave it naked for a few days so DS 1 gets used to it before I get the baubles out and it looks like Christmas threw up on it!
We can't go anywhere or do anything at the weekends so I'm hoping the tree will inject a bit of joy into the house.

BakewellGin1 · 08/11/2020 11:09

Each to their own I say Grin

I'm in the process of getting new roof and ceiling in kitchen then needs painting so think I'm looking at last weekend in November... The plan is once I get kitchen and a few skip runs done I can have a good clean then will be feeling in the mood for tree and decs.

NotEnoughTime · 08/11/2020 11:11

Totally up to you. Waaaay too early for me (I wouldn't want our tree up at least until December) but if you and your family want to and it brings you happiness then go for it Smile

snowmanshoes · 08/11/2020 11:12

I haven’t done the tree yet but I’ve got Christmas candles burning and a few decorations that I’ve recently bought that I haven’t bothered putting up the attic so I’ve put them around the house. I say go for it.

Mistletroll · 08/11/2020 11:33

I need to keep busy so that is partly it. Spent the whole of lockdown1 renovating house, which is nearly done, so not got a lot to do.

I think as soon as lockdown lifts I will be working extra hours to catch up at work so need to get organised now.

Grin I am normally a militant 1st of December at the very earliest but this year I am open to persuasion.
