Does anyone do anything active on Christmas day?

We often go for a lovely walk on Christmas day and put a beef in the slow cooker for when we get back.

My dh and dc love wearing Christmas hats and greeting people we pass! (We live in the Lake District so lots of friendly walkers about, although much quieter at Christmas.

What active things do you do?

Parkrun, normally. I'll miss that this year. Sad

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 03/11/2020 06:39

Last year we all did parkrun for the first time (first Christmas at parkrun not first parkrun)

It was amazing.

Lots of years we have been out for a walk in the afternoon which is great too.

This year I have signed up for a virtual medal if I run on Christmas Day so intend to do that anyway but will not be very sociable as I don’t think anyone will come with me. (Maybe they will - that’s the lockdown talking)

StrawberryPi · 03/11/2020 06:41

Yes to parkrun Sad This will be the first year in about 12 years we've not done it!

Cwenthryth · 03/11/2020 06:43

Dog walk in the forest

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 03/11/2020 06:45

Open presents.
Lift glasses.
Throwing dice.
Charades
Wrangle children

It's exhausting!

Shieldingending · 03/11/2020 06:45

Always took my parents dog for a walk, this year we have our own dog to walk on Christmas Day Smile

Twilightstarbright · 03/11/2020 06:46

I've always loved going for a walk at Christmas in a Santa hat.

I'm somewhere abroad with less COVID restrictions, so I'm hoping that the Christmas 5k will be taking place. Or the Boxing Day open water swim!

AuntieMarys · 03/11/2020 06:48

We do a five miler in glorious countryside in the morning. Take small bottles of prosecco to have while looking at the view.

midnightstar66 · 03/11/2020 06:50

Yes we always go for a walk along the prom before going to my parents for the day. This year we have a puppy to take with us too. Normally they have a new outdoor toy to try such as scooter, roller skates or skateboard but not this year.

FlatandFabulous · 03/11/2020 06:50

We're in Sydney so we often swim although surprisingly enough even though Christmas Day is slap bang in the middle of Summer it's often a cool, grey day which I don't mind as it means I don't melt cooking the turkey 😀

BikerWife · 03/11/2020 06:54

Another vote for parkrun Sad

mellongoose · 03/11/2020 06:57

Swim in the sea first thing. Dog walk after lunch 😍 Love Christmas 🎄

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 03/11/2020 06:58

Look after a yard full of horses

Indoctro · 03/11/2020 07:00

Parkrun

Plus take the kid for a trek on their quad bikes

OgwdihwO · 03/11/2020 07:01

I didn’t realise park run happened (usually) on christmas day!!

I like the idea of taking prosecco out on our walk 😀

We went to France last year for Christmas, it was our 1st time away at Christmas with the kids... was great! We were on a rock climbing /via ferrata trip.

foilflower · 03/11/2020 07:01

We go for a walk too.

OgwdihwO · 03/11/2020 07:01

I love swimming in the sea! No longer live near a nice stretch of coast!

LizziesTwin · 03/11/2020 07:02

Usually we go for a run. We have to walk the dogs too, so that’s at least 3 outings.

AuntieStella · 03/11/2020 07:03

parkrun

Doesn't look like that'll be happening this year.

(Nor any form of Midnight Mass or Carol Service)

and the parkrun NY double has been abolished

TheJourneyWoman · 03/11/2020 07:09

I went for a 10 km run every Christmas Day for years. I was injured for a while so had to stop for a few years but back up to between 5-7 km three or four times a week so will do that on CD. I hate the bloated, overstuffed feel of CD. A run feels great and helps counter that.

megletthesecond · 03/11/2020 07:10

Parkrun. But I always went for a run before that existed.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/11/2020 07:13

Take ds for a walk / scooter/ bike to burn off some f that sugar high !

Callcat · 03/11/2020 07:17

We went climbing Xmas morning last year. I felt like I'd earned my lunch then...extra buttery spuds for me!

hellocleveland · 03/11/2020 07:20

Parkrun. Will really miss it this year. Also 2 dog walks.

On New Year's Day I like doing the double parkrun. Only day of the year you could do it but I believe they've stopped it now.

ifiwasascent · 03/11/2020 07:24

Me and my sister used to always walk the dog to the beach. This year I'm hosting so I think I'll just be running round the kitchen🤯
