When is your Xmas tree going up this year?

As the title really, when is your tree going up this year and is it different to any other year due to Covid, or are you keeping it roughly the same time as normal?

DD's birthday is the 1st so we don't really do anything Xmas til after that. Tree sometime around the 10-15th. Not doing anything differently this year

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 31/10/2020 12:10

@LindaEllen

It's not.

We threw away all of our decs after last Christmas, because we planned to get the whole of downstairs decorated, plus the garden. Then covid came and it slowed things down, so the living room has ended up not getting done - just the garden and kitchen.

I'm not buying new stuff until the living room is done, and to be honest, I'm not in the mood for Christmas anyway. So there we go.

I can't imagine just throwing all my Christmas Decorations away.

I have some that I made as a toddler. Granted they're not longer in the best of shape (I am in my 50's) but they get hung in the side of the tree and I've got loads that I've collected over the years, part of the joy is unwrapping them and remembering the holidays, Christmas markets or whatever.

I can't imagine having a 'designer' tree.

1st week of December. I can’t wait!

MrsKJones · 31/10/2020 12:15

Ours usually goes up last weekend of November ready for start of advent but this year it's going up weekend after DH's birthday (mid-november) so only a week or so earlier than normal. I'm buying a few more fairy lights though so our lounge will be festooned in twinkles.
This year has been dire and we need a bit of cheering up.
Tree comes down on New Year's day

Must get DH's advent stuff sorted.......

EternalOptimist7 · 31/10/2020 12:15

Usually put it up on my birthday at the beginning of December but DD has asked if we can not put it up on that day as it’s annoying! Perhaps she doesn’t like me having that extra attention? We’ll probably put it up at the weekend following my birthday.

CosyAcorn · 31/10/2020 12:20

The first of December this year. I normally wait till the second weekend but this year since we wont be doing Christmas fairs, nativities and carol services I am starting early at home.

I'm really looking forward to decorating this year.

MiniMum97 · 31/10/2020 12:24

@Ninkanink

I’ll put up the faux tree in the living room on Dec 1st, then around mid December I’ll move that to the dining room and install the real tree in the bay window.
Ooo that's a good idea. I am normally real tree only and "no Christmas before December" but am feeling quite anxious and fed up so feel like putting up a tree now to cheer myself up abs distract myself from pandemic chaos.
Mylittlesandwich · 31/10/2020 12:27

Unsure. We originally were going for the 1st of Dec as normal but since everything is cancelled we might put it up for DSs first birthday. He likes twinkly lights. That's the 20th of November.

yellowsun · 31/10/2020 12:35

We will probably get a real tree and put the decs up the weekend of 5th and hope it lasts!

Fifthtimelucky · 31/10/2020 12:35

I will have a real tree so it will probably go up a week or so before Christmas, and will come down on 6 Jan. I usually start putting other decorations up at the beginning of December, starting with the advent calendars and gradually increasing.

When I do it this year will depend on when my younger daughter comes home from university (assuming she's allowed). She loves decorating for Christmas and I don't want to do too much without her.

GachaBread · 31/10/2020 12:40

🎄🎄🎄🎄Might upset the grinches here but mine is up! Don't care if it's up too early. After the year we have had the smiles on all my children's faces were worth their weight in gold. 🎄🎄🎄🎄

Ninkanink · 31/10/2020 12:44

There are no grinches on the Christmas boards!!

Autumnblooms · 31/10/2020 12:48

Seems to be a range but mainly around the last weekend of November to the first weekend of December. I’m debating about putting mine up 7th/8th November as it appears there will be a lock down and I’m gutted about all the xmas stuff we would normally do, not happening this year.

Thank you all, I’m going to do it- I just love the twinkly lights Grin

I’ve just checked the calendar and I’ll be putting mine up slightly earlier than I’d said - end of November - as I’ll put it up on first Advent Sunday.

@MiniMum97 I’m Danish and had never seen faux trees inside homes until I moved to the U.K. and it was difficult to get used to at first as it just didn’t feel right, but living in flats for several years it’s just been too much of a hassle to have a real tree. I am so excited this year as we’re finally living in our own home and I can go back to having a lovely real tree!! Luckily the faux one does look very realistic so it will look lovely for the first couple of weeks. 🎄🎄🎄😊😊😊

FippertyGibbett · 31/10/2020 12:58

My outside lights are going up soon. I think we all need a bit of cheering up.

TheLastStarfighter · 31/10/2020 12:59

We usually put the tree itself up the weekend before Christmas, but put up cotton ball lights and winter (rather than Christmas-specific) ornaments from the beginning of December.

But this year I am pulling everything toward by a month. I’m starting to tidy up the house tomorrow so it’s a bit prettier, ready for lights and things.

Ninkanink · 31/10/2020 13:00

I’ve already strung fairy lights up on the staircase the other day. But that’s an autumn/dark evenings thing to add some cheer once the clocks have gone back. It makes me happy every time I walk through the hallway. 😊 In Dec I’ll add paper stars and other decorations to create a garland.

girlywhirly · 31/10/2020 13:06

At some point in the second week of December. I usually put up the artificial tree and let it settle before decorating it the next day. I put up the other decorations over the two days.

MissEWeatherwax · 31/10/2020 13:18

Never

2me2u2u2me · 31/10/2020 13:40

Usually first weekend in December but I’m doing last weekend in November this year, though we’re due to complete on a house 1/2nd week In December so they’ll all have to come down and go back up in new house if we move Confused

reginaphalangeeee · 31/10/2020 13:53

Mine will go up around the beginning of December, same as when I usually put it up. I love it being up but after a while it starts to feel too cluttered with all the decorations around the house so couldn’t put it up earlier.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 31/10/2020 14:02

Probably a bit earlier than I normally would as I think it will be quite cheering.

So might normally put up halfway through Dec but maybe around Dev 10 this year.

I work from home in my living room at a little desk so it might be a challenge squeezing in alongside the tree!

DriftGames · 31/10/2020 14:08

I usually try and get to the first weekend of December but the last 2 years it's gone up late November for various reasons. Would deffo be going up late Nov this year if we weren't moving house on the 30th!

Deelish75 · 31/10/2020 14:12

Either the last weekend in November or first weekend in December. It’s a real tree and it goes in the living room.
We have a second fake smaller tree which we put in the dining room once the kids have broken up from school.

Deelish75 · 31/10/2020 14:14

We moved house a few days before Christmas. The removal men just wrapped the (fake) tree in plastic and took it fully decorated.

Very impressive.
