As the title really, when is your tree going up this year and is it different to any other year due to Covid, or are you keeping it roughly the same time as normal?

1st Dec this year. I need the tree lights and the general prettiness about the house and garden.

Olaollie · 31/10/2020 00:29

Last weekend in November. It should take me a few days to put up the entire decorations and I want it to be sorted by 1st December! I have young children and lots of decorations, hence I can't just blast it all in one day.

Imnotacelebritygetmeout · 31/10/2020 00:34

I'm usually itching to put mine up by the second week in November Grin but I feel like a real tree this year so may wait an extra week or so.

CeramicGuineaPig · 31/10/2020 00:38

Real tree, around 18 December.

Holothane · 31/10/2020 00:45

I’m going for 18th December this year.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 31/10/2020 00:47

If I even bother this year it will be an artificial tabletop tree and it will go up on the 12th of December and come down by the 30th.

grassisjeweled · 31/10/2020 00:49

Earlier. Watching Xmas movies as of Nov 1st. Christmas playlist on around the same date.

grassisjeweled · 31/10/2020 00:49

Sorry, didn't answer the question.

Tree up Nov 15..

SunShinesStill · 31/10/2020 00:50

Real tree, so the day they start to sell them in November! Last longer than a tree cut at the same time sitting in a warehouse out of water for a month waiting for someone to buy it nearer to Christmas. They are all cut at the same time so the later you buy doesn’t mean fresher. Unless you’re sticking it on top of a radiator.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 31/10/2020 00:56

The weekend after school breaks up. As always. It stays up until Epiphany.

caringcarer · 31/10/2020 01:05

Dec 18th. It was my parents wedding anniversary and that was the day it went up every year when I was a child. Now I put my real tree up on same date. My parents are dead but I always think of them when I decorate the Christmas tree.

happymummy12345 · 31/10/2020 01:07

Same as every year, goes up the first weekend of December and comes down 6th January. I'm superstitious so never ever do anything else

caringcarer · 31/10/2020 01:12

@sunshinesstill, we go to a Xmas tree farm where you can pick a pre cut tree or find one you want a get a person to cut it down for you. One year we were handed a saw a DH cut it down himself. They sell Holly and Mistletoe too.

Trolldom · 31/10/2020 05:26

Real tree, will go up whenever it can be delivered. They're available to order from the place I get it on the 20th, so whenever I can secure a delivery slot it will go up. It lasts fine till well past new year.

Twilightstarbright · 31/10/2020 06:56

@WithIcePlease I feel the same, and I don't like making all the effort for a short period of time!

Tree will go up 30 Nov/1 Dec as DS goes to Preschool Mon and Tues so I can do the bulk of it uninterrupted and choose some bits for him to help with. If not he'd be up the stepladder in a flash.

Bluntness100 · 31/10/2020 06:59

Usually mid December but will maybe go a week early this time, will see how I feel.

Surprised someone up thread put it up mid Oct. I’d feel daft and get pig sick of it if I did that.

birkenstocks4ever · 31/10/2020 07:30

Last year I put all the decorations up at the end of November. I thought I'd be sick of them by Christmas but we all loved it so same again this year

MarmaladeTeepee · 31/10/2020 07:30

Usually the first weekend in December but with 1st of Dec being a Tuesday, I'm tempted to put it up the weekend before. I normally get fed up of all the decorations and they come down around new year, but last year I began to pack away all the extra bits but left the tree up until twelfth night and it kept the magic going for longer. So I might start with just the tree on 29th November and then gradually add in all the extra bits over the next few weeks (I adore Christmas and have decorations in every room) and then do the same after Christmas, gradually pack stuff away until it's only the tree remaining. I think after the rubbish year we've had some festive cheer is definitely needed and there's nothing like some twinkly lights to spark joy.

Isadora2007 · 31/10/2020 07:35

We will start to decorate the house the last week in November. I was thinking of having a thanksgiving meal this year So maybe after that. Then the tree can go up the first actual weekend in December with a North Pole breakfast to start the day.
I can see why people like them up early- but The ability to delay gratification is such an important thing to learn and I do feel people are not helping their children grow and learn in doing things like Halloween from October the 1st and Christmas from now... anticipation helps to build excitement and enjoyment.

FrancisCross · 31/10/2020 07:37

14th November! And I can’t bloomin’ wait!

36weekswithno2 · 31/10/2020 07:38

We always buy our tree the first Saturday or Sunday in December Smile

36weekswithno2 · 31/10/2020 07:40

Mine is a real tree but always lasts a month, barely drops pines except when bringing it into the house and back out.

FinallyHere · 31/10/2020 08:17

Christmas Eve same as usual, which is taken down on twelfth night.

Advent decorations are set out on the first Sunday in Advent. We have a wreath which holds four candles, one candle is lit on 1st Sunday in Advent, two on second etc.

We also have wooden carved figures of carol singers and other decorate bits for Advent, the season of waiting, of anticipation and preparation.

NoWordForFluffy · 31/10/2020 08:26

It'll be the last weekend in November, due to how it falls this year.

I've bought outside lighting too, which needs sorting! 🎄🎄🎄🎄

Autumnspice · 31/10/2020 08:43

No change for us but I am especially looking forward to it this year.
The fake tree for the dining room is going up the last weekend in November.

We will then go to the local tree farm on the first weekend of December for two real trees for the living and sitting rooms.

My DH takes one daughter and I take the other and it’s a competition of who chooses the ‘best’ tree
It’s then home to decorate the tree and bake cookies. We are then going to a national trust property for the winter lights.

This is the weekend my girls look forward to all year and talk about all year

It sounds really pretentious when I write it down but it’s our wedding anniversary on the 1st Dec and this is how we’ve come to celebrate that as a family.
