Thanks @Anydreamwilldo12 for thread title

please read the thread is moving so fast atm and it’s pretty hard to keep up! I was just wondering on people’s thoughts on this so did a super quick questionnaire here . I’m not sure we’ll find a perfect answer to suit everyone but would love your feedback on if it’s an issue or not.

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Random request. DS is Minecraft mad and worships Preston Styles.

He wanted some 'merch' but I was wary of buying from the American sites in case of charges etc so I bought him a copy hoody from Ebay. It's OK but not great quality.

Has anyone bought any proper 'merch' and how's best to buy it?

wibdib · 02/10/2020 23:19

@Doyouknowthisisnotmyname sorry don’t think you’ve got the right person - I’ve only posted generic codes recently and not mentioned anything about other codes, one use or not...!

Smileatthesmallthings · 02/10/2020 23:26

Thanks for the reminder about present indicative - fabulous website for the many geeks in my life and I know a few people who will be getting a bar of Uranus Soap in their stockings coz it made me laugh out loud and almost wake DS who's snuck into my bed.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 02/10/2020 23:53

does anyone have any suggestions for horse riders? My son (he doesnt live with me for context) is a keen rider and has a horse. he has all the things like helmet saddles etc, im thinking more small things i can bulk out his gifts with? I already bought the ear muffs that were linked on an earlier thread so have those to start me off . thanks for any ideas

SkintSanta · 03/10/2020 00:07

@OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack as a keen rider as a child I always loved getting new hat silks for my helmets, and they have some pretty cool ones these days. I also appreciated decent riding gloves (sealskinz are still my preferred ones), decent high viz vests for road riding and gilets etc for light layers

WaitWhatOh · 03/10/2020 00:12

@OneNightTimeMenanceStrikesBack - folding hoofpick, riding socks, boot jack, and thermal layers for winter riding!

gavisconismyfriend · 03/10/2020 00:21

TKMaxx have lovely Le Creuset teapots on their website for £12.99 instead of £40 and other nice le creuset kitchen bits too. Delivery only £3.99 or can click and collect for £1.99.

DinosaurOfFire · 03/10/2020 00:21

Build a bear bonus offer giftcard When you go to checkout, if you spend over £20 there is the option to buy a £10 gift card for £5, which means your next order would get £5 off- it covers the post at least. It worked with a basket of sale items, which were already 40% off in the sale I have a few build a bears to get for various people so this should work well on my next order, I'm waiting for the other bears to be on offer before I order them.

DinosaurOfFire · 03/10/2020 00:28

@snowfairylover Build a bear seem to do their offers on a cycle - I'm waiting for a couple to be reduced again, hopefully soon!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/10/2020 00:30

thank you for the suggestion of horsey things. plenty to go hunting for there! Im not a rider myself so know little about what stuffs needed

snowfairylover · 03/10/2020 00:32

@DinosaurOfFire Thank you! Fingers crossed Bear

CoffeeAndEnnui · 03/10/2020 01:13

The other ribbon site was Fantastic Ribbons and there's an extra 20% off everything this weekend, including bulk bundles of Christmas ribbon, with the code 'october20' to make it even more tempting!

thaegumathteth · 03/10/2020 02:00

Agree @SingaporeSlinky the the codes etc comments . It's common courtesy to say you've used a one off code and tbh, for me, I wouldn't come and use codes if I didn't albeit occasionally offer up an offer or a discount or whatever BUT that's just me and not necessarily correct!

Jess26385 · 03/10/2020 03:37

Any ideas for a present for my bestie, she is super environmentally conscious and vegan and is really into low plastic/ethical stuff... but I am bored of the usual crap I buy. For her birthday I got her a ‘coronavirus tap’ which essentially was a charity donation to fit a tap in a home in a poor community to help fight the virus. I don’t really want to go down the charity route again because I want to give her something tangible.... any ideas welcome :)

ChristmasSeacow · 03/10/2020 05:32

Does she cook? If so I’d be inclined to go for a recipe book, kitchen gadget (useful, not novelty!) or baking tins, something like that. I was given an extra posh wooden spoon, of all things, and I love using it! If not, how about a lovely houseplant and a nice pot? I’d be really pleased with that rather than flowers, as not ‘single use’, iyswim.

I’ve just caught up on a couple of days of posts so I’m late to the chat, but on the Brio track question (and other brands) I just wanted to say that the picture a pp posted of the track with the plastic male bits that could be popped out is from ikea, defo not Brio. It’s confusing because it’s their old style, I believe their newer stuff is solid like brio though I haven’t tried it recently. Tbh I never got on with the plastic-ended stuff - we bought some from ikea to use with a mixture of other brands (all interchangeable) and I found it didn’t work well at all as it was extremely stiff when new. DS just couldn’t put it together on his own, while he managed with the other stuff just fine. And actually I also struggled with it and gave up (and gave it away!) in frustration! All the other ‘solid’ track stuff works well interchangeably - we have Brio, Bigjigs, Tesco, John Lewis. I really rate Bigjigs for having interesting track additions like bridges, tunnels and whatnot - it’s a bit cheaper than Brio and fantastic quality.

Has anyone seen any offers on Trollbeads? I’ve found an indie seller with 15% off first order but they are still pretty expensive so I’m hoping to do better - DSis has requested some specific ones for birthday and Christmas and I’d like to start a collection for DD and get her one each Christmas, but I’ve got a ‘backlog’ as she’s already 3!

Authenticcelestialmusic · 03/10/2020 05:52

@Bridecilla have you looked at EMP and zavvi? I may have a referral code for both sites if you want to but from them. I have bought from both, returns to emp are easy and their items are genuine too. They do lots of gaming stuff (clothes etc).

Authenticcelestialmusic · 03/10/2020 05:53

Buy

IggyAce · 03/10/2020 06:11

@Jess26385 I shared this article on eco subscription boxes on another thread. Not sure of budget but it might give you some nice ideas.

Limeavocado · 03/10/2020 06:39

To the poster worried about their Penhaligons order, I've just received an email saying that my order from a few days ago is on its way now.

Which brings me nicely to the opportunity to say a huge thank you for the Penhaligons offer info, the Molton Brown info and the Amazon offers. I'm desperate to find a good offer to post here to help pay it back, thank you so much lovely ladies (and gentlemen maybe!)

Bluewavescrashing · 03/10/2020 06:41

I love this climbing santa from QVC but it's pricey at £80 ish. There are some cheap ones online but I'm after a decent quality one, must have lights. Has anyone bought one?

Nothing helpful to add @Bridecilla, but I too am on the hunt for Preston 'Merch'.If anyone has any experience of buying this sort of stuff I would welcome advice and recommendations.
