Thanks @moonbabyandthebeast for thread title

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets

Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

Last year a very unexpected hit with my children were huge rolls of eco friendly cellotape. They can tear it without scissors and have used it for everything- model making, pictures etc. Because it is like masking tape we have also used it to sticky pictures to the wall and it doesn't seem to damage the paint (only on rooms where we haven't decorated yet- just in case!). They have used it constantly and loads of it, but the rolls still look half full.

I have ordered more for this year. Last year the tape only had an elephant design, but this year there are several patterns. Around £3 a roll depending on which pattern for 50m

babipur tape here code "buddy" should take off 10%. There is a delivery charge for under a £40 spend.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 18/09/2020 12:04

Remember boots has its £5 Friday again today, some KVD minis

sorryiasked · 18/09/2020 12:08

@SayNoToCarrots can't see any mixed families but there are some non-white options eg this one

@Friedbanana if you view all messages (option at the top of the page) you can then use your browser to "find on page"

Friedbanana · 18/09/2020 12:28

Ahh thank you so much for tips on searching @Reastie and @sorryiasked! I’ve been trying to search on phone but will try on laptop using safari later!

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 18/09/2020 12:38

Thanks for the book tip, dd loves rabbits nap have ordered foxes socks too Smile

CosmicVagina · 18/09/2020 12:46

I bought Hide and Seek Pig in the chaaaaaaaarity shop a few weeks ago, its not nearly as good as Rabbits Nap Grin

margaritasbythesea · 18/09/2020 12:50

Friedbanana - I can do it on my phone. I select show all messages using the little down arrow at the top of the thread. I then use 'find in Page' which is under the three dots in the address bar. I hope I have explained it clearly.

margaritasbythesea · 18/09/2020 12:51

sorry. meant to say at the right of the address bar.

Presents mounting for my DD4, but struggling for DS7 - he doesn't really play much with the toys we buy - prefers Minecraft and PlayStation or looking at maps and atlases. Recently diagnosed with DCD (so not great at sports) and we're waiting for an Autism assessment for Asperger's - I think both impact a lot on what he likes to do. We already have millions of books (from Captain underpants to The Hobbit), tons of Lego (mostly HPotter sets), globe, maps, marble race, gravitrax...ANY suggestions/inspiration greatly appreciated!!! 🙏

FoxBadger · 18/09/2020 13:00

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts thanks for dd cancellation info. Always a little wary of these things. I’ll give it a go - can’t go wrong for £1.

I also agree that the 4 books (rabbits nap etc) are lovely lovely books. We all enjoyed when mine were little. I couldn’t part with them when I did clear out of some baby/toddler books they’d outgrown last year - however this proved very helpful as my DS actually really enjoyed reading them to me when he started learning to read. I think that would be my top tip for others - save some of the lovely toddler books that they’ve outgrown having read to them at bedtimes because they are great little books for them reading to you once they school learning to read (and much nicer for them to read that some of the dull school reading books!)

Lurleene · 18/09/2020 13:03

Usborne Spotters Flags of the World

Ivegotalovelybunchofcoconuts how about this? DS used to love looking at these and is quite the flag expert!

Notlongnow1 · 18/09/2020 13:04

@Makedo sounds fab, have been eyeing it up for a while. Was hoping for a radish one though - a nice mainstream vegetable Grin

SushiGo · 18/09/2020 13:04

@IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconuts does he like spinning things? My poss. Asd son loves Beyblades.
I also found a decorate your own spinning top game for 2.95 at red of london.

Otherwise I sympathise, it's really hard picking gifts!

Would he like lazer tag guns so he can play at being in a console game?

BicycleMadeForTwo · 18/09/2020 13:05

@IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconuts I’m struggling with ideas for DS7 too. At the moment thinking about things like a nerf gun with digital target, some board games, a den kit, spy kit. Trying to think of things that aren’t computer games is getting tough!

LostMyRubySlippers · 18/09/2020 13:10

BunchofCoconuts this sounds similar to my kids, although my DS is 8 & he does love sports which makes things a bit easier...
What about some sort of Geography related board game? We have ravensburger explore Europe but it is retro so only available second hand on eBay (& half the countries don’t exist any more!!) DS loves that though.
I’ve also heard ticket to ride mentioned on here or there is a game called mapominoes with different versions...
DS also has a big map colouring book.

Last year we got him an echo dot for his room (appreciate some people have security concerns with this etc) but he likes to use it to check the weather, play kids quiz & there’s also a capital cities quiz you can ask Alexa to play...

Merriwicks · 18/09/2020 13:11

There was fingerlings in my home bargins today for 4.99

SushiGo · 18/09/2020 13:11

Sorry, that should say [[https://www.rexlondon.com/circus-spinning-tops-game?gclid=Cj0KCQjwtZH7BRDzARIsAGjbK2bhijxKkjo1tPEEUIChUaBXEbtaKRWQBSbXJfNBYppsgA50n1A6zAYaAsDuEALw_wcB rex of london spinning top game]]

Beyblades are a bit harder to find now, but there's some on amazon.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 18/09/2020 13:13

I’ve bought slime kits and chemistry sets for 7 year old boys (and girls!) before. I’ve also got a smiggle lockable journal with footballs on and the “touchable” bubbles they do. One liked the Superdry shower gel set and bag I got his older brother if that helps?

lexloofah · 18/09/2020 13:19

bunchofcoconuts

We have the AA UK atlas sticker book

Or how about one of those big world maps that you stick pins in or scratch off where you have been?

We have a UK jigsaw as well which is fiddly but good

Minecraft or PlayStation merch or clothing? I have PlayStation pjs and socks and hoodie for DS this year. Just pre ordered the minecraft annual

Elpheba · 18/09/2020 13:20

@MissRabbitIsExhausted and @CosmicVagina don’t forget postman bear! The best one of the set in my opinion!

CoffeeAndEnnui · 18/09/2020 13:30

@tentative3, The Phoenix is intended for children up to age 14 but I suspect you'd already need to be a reader to still love it at 14. I would say around 12 is about the right age cut off to start subscribing for the first time.

Lockdownhairdontcare · 18/09/2020 13:36

@zeerecords I got the black box.

Tiredmummyof3 · 18/09/2020 13:40

Sorry I think I've missed it, can anymore point me in the direction of the magazine offer? I've got a reading fanatic DS! Thanks
