Here we go. We're still a chatty bunch. We're going to knock any previous thread count into a cocked hat!

Morning!

It's monsoon season here. The rain is unreal and unrelenting! And also forecast to last the whole day. Lovely. Hmm

Woolly, that's a bargain for your cuts. I'm impressed!

Work today and then shopping later. The excitement!

Same here fluffy which isn't helpful when I have so much washing to do! DS and I have agreed to have a lazy home day watching TV and baking though. I am going to buy a Filofax and start getting organised for the Autumn Term.

WreckTangled · 25/08/2020 08:03

Shock a cut, colour and blow dry here is £80+ at home or in a salon.

I woke up 15 mins ago I could hear the dc getting dressed but even better they weren't fighting! Despite the weather I'm hoping we will have a good day...

pussycatinboots · 25/08/2020 09:34

Been shopping early, the rain had almost gone off when we got back to the car, so at least I don't have soggy food. The roads were pretty bad though.
NDNs cat wouldn't go in last night, he kept following DH as he tried to leave, so spent the night out again. He's tiny compared to our 2. I'm doing what I can with tins of tuna and biscuits to build him up Grin
Not sure what to do about my next haircut (obviously it's still wonky). I'll have to find someone/somewhere else.

Mrsmadevans · 25/08/2020 09:58

Morning everyone 😀
Am off to MumBobs.
Haircut 100 are bargainous for You Woolly 🤗👏
Storm Frances trying to do it's worst. No damage as yet here though .
We haven't been anywhere to eat out on this Gvt scheme. Can't say we ever eat out so it's not really going to change us but great incentive for securing jobs & restoring faith re the Covid risk.
Better shift see you all ltr 😄

NerosFiddle · 25/08/2020 11:43

Ds starts school tomorrow and I still haven't got him any shoes yet. He's supposed to have black Velcro ones but I begrudge spending £50 in Clark's for something he'll grow out of in a few months. He has a pair of brown shoes he'll have to wear until I get to Matalan it Asda.

Storm Francis has landed here. Apparently a lot of roads are flooded so we'll stay in today.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/08/2020 11:53

M&S do good shoes for about £20 if you have one nearby? Leather too.

Morning everyone.
Hope you are all well. Leave you for a few days and you're chatting about lottery wins, Christmas bedding, rabbit holes, haircuts, fab cakes and shopping trips. You've all been so busy! Having been spending a few days at MIL, went into town on Monday and bought DS shoes for Sixth Form £££. We also had lunch in O'Neills, lovely but took so long to come. Did a little shopping, and was invited for dinner at SIL Shock was lovely though we had pasta, cheese board and fresh cream cakes yum. Today we had planned to go strawberry picking this morning, but it has lashed with rain so has put paid to that plan. We are making a Uni trip to Ikea (tradition) on the way home so looking forward to that! Grin Can't believe this time next week I will be in school Sad so happy I still have a job though.

I have 2 lefties Neros and think I was one too because I play all my musical instruments left handed. When I grew up they encouraged you to write with right hand though.

Enjoy MumBobs Mrs so love your fabulous cakes. I eat prunes or apricots each morning to keep me moving Grin Your foot cake is truly spectacular.

Made a choc cake one Christmas 70 and it got eaten. Grin

So lucky Crazy my hair needs chopping.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/08/2020 12:05

Definitely go for something cheaper Neros. I had to buy an emergency pair in Tesco when DS was in primary school and they were great. As long as you know what size you want you'll be fine.

I've got a Clark's appointment on Friday with DS. He's got slow growing feet so the shoes I buy him will last all year especially now he's past the stage of ripping the sole off playing football (see emergency Tesco shoes above) Expecting an adult size 8 or thereabouts. Sasquatch teenager 🤣

NoWordForFluffy · 25/08/2020 12:20

I was my height / shoe size by his age, Woolly. But size 8 shoes were few and far between and UGLY too.

Our two have regularly grown 1 size per year since starting school. Thank god!

Startrite has a print off measuring guide, I think (they come up 1/2 size bigger than Clark's though, apparently).

Nero I know they're adults not kids, but DH always gets a pair of trainers from Tesco or Sains as they're cheap n cheerful and perfect for gardening/walking. The current ones have taken a battering but should last until mid winter.
tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/c/kids/boys-school-shoes?q=%3AnewArrivals%3Acolour%3ABlack&text=# some velcro ones for £14 Smile

MarshmallowManiac · 25/08/2020 12:59

Fluffy size 8 too, rubbish choice Sad

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/08/2020 13:08

Smugly looking at my dainty size 4's nothing grows in the shade

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 25/08/2020 13:33

I am 5ft9 with size 5 feet and do look like I will topple over a bit Grin

After years of despairing at the cats destroying sofa after sofa I have discovered sofa covers and think I am going to invest in some. They even have Christmas ones Grin

Have tried using throws but spend all my time readjusting them whereas these fit right over the sofa and are elasticated so they fit perfectly and don't move around.

Fingers crossed they are as good as they look!

My mum bought some bloody "Plumbs" ones in the late 80s. They were a nylon/polyester mix and part elasticated/part tied on. Seriously ugly and awful. Once she finally decided she hated them as much as me I took great delight in cutting all the ties off so she couldn't change her mind.
I hope the skins are better Grin
Interestingly our cats only destroy carpet Hmm ...oh, and net curtains glances at destroyed living room window ...they've taken a pot shot at the gas fire too...and the dining room chairs which look like they have woodworm other than that they're positively angelic. Halo

NoWordForFluffy · 25/08/2020 15:23

Ooh, cross stitch people, Very Crafty has the new Bothy collection with a discount code too!

I got the attached one!

Hi all, I'm back chained to a work desk again, so have time to chat (a little). Back to the section I was to move permanently to, for a quick project taking 3 weeks (but boss is too busy to talk about it so far this week - tomorrow, he swears!! Grin). Then off to another new section, probably permanently (although it's officially "just" to get a European Directive into Irish law by mid-January....).

I managed to finish some of my sewing on holidays "down west" a few weeks back - the cushion covers and baby burp cloths are all finished and I'm nearly finished the caravan XSt (just on black outlining now). And the scarf I have been knitting is long enough to cast off - I'm just wondering about finishing the ball by knitting it longer or adding tassles/fringing to each end. And I had to replace a pocket on a school fleece for DD after she'd not just holed but shredded the lining in it. I have plenty more projects on my list (top priority being 4 more masks for DD's going back to school next week). I am getting myself set up to be able to work at my work desk in the evenings, I've ordered a small ironing mat and plan to use the travel iron (which saw very little use ever on travels) so I can just work away and not have to haul everything downstairs to the main iron and board.

I've also had to go to Ikea 3 times since Friday a week ago. Once with DD to get a new desk I needed so she could take hers back for school (and sheets/duvet covers for her new room, candles for downstairs, napkins, fabric, ….). Once with visiting DSis (as the knowledgable muscle-power), who needed bookcases, a list of bits for other DSis and DM. And then on Sunday back (after a full day away for DD playing a match, and after dinner at home) with DD and DH as enough of the bits for DD's wardrobe finally came back into stock (her old one is literally held together with duck tape!). So that is this Saturday's day planned out - building the new one.

I was off the past 2 weeks, but DH was working and DD had a load of hockey sessions across the county to get to so I spent a lot of time either dropping/collecting or cleaning at home. So I am a little ahead on my Holiday Grand Plan this year but scattered across the house. My aim in the next 3 weeks is to get the spare bedroom completely sorted and tidied out, DD's room finished off, and the dining room cleared out - before I get really stuck into another heavyweight job at work.

And the weather is playing ball, as it feels miserable outside, I had a half hour in sunshine one morning, and that was it! The Scout Leaders group got out sailing last night before the storm came in so that was good (lots of them really know what they're at, but there are a few like me who are more beginners or row/motor boat rather than sail) - but plenty of rain and wind today again.

Must go catch up on all the news...

Mrsmadevans · 25/08/2020 15:45

They don't seem to have udated the site since 2019 . I love the mice and the pumpkins ahhhhh Smile
