Do you think Chirstmas is going to be cancelled this year due to coronavirus?

OP posts:

They managed to have Christmas in 'Little Women' despite poverty and civil war...

(Don't say this is just fiction. Our present circumstances do not seem any more real than those of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy.)

didmyhousethismornin · 21/05/2020 00:38

Why would it?

FlibbertyGiblets · 21/05/2020 00:40

@crustycrab your post to Nicky about Lilac is really unkind - she's explained why Easter is a sad time for her. No need to jeer or call names in the guise of being 'witty'.
I have no skin in this game btw.

Ellmau · 21/05/2020 00:45

I mean I guess you could argue Father Christmas is a super spreader, what with making so many house calls

Perhaps it is no coincidence that the coronavirus starting spreading soon after Christmas....

bananaskinsnomnom · 21/05/2020 00:53

I LOVE Christmas!

You can sure as hell state that, even if mass gatherings are still not in place and we are in another lockdown, people will not follow the rules for Christmas Day. There’s no hope in stopping families gathering for Christmas.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 21/05/2020 00:54

WTF lol
No, it won't be cancelled.
Even if doesn't look the same as other years (big gatherings) you can still have a good one!
You make the most of it.
Like Eid is having to be different this year, i'm sure we'll cope with Christmas if it comes to it.

TheModicum · 21/05/2020 00:58

Yes, probably.

JustStayHome · 21/05/2020 01:05

Im sure santa isnt shielding because his magic

All will be ok OP 🎅🤶🛷🎄🎁🦌

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 21/05/2020 01:10

judging by the fact that people are literally willing to shit on the beach rather than stay at home

Dirty sods. No wonder the virus is still spreading. 😁

Littlepond · 21/05/2020 01:10

Easter definitely happened! I ate Easter eggs!

MLMsuperfan · 21/05/2020 01:22

I think Christmas should be every 4 years like the Olympics.

Cancelled by whom?! Jesus? Father Christmas? Your mum?

cheesemongery · 21/05/2020 01:40

Well if last Christmas was anything to go by...

Wake up with DD - open presents. Guests start arriving between 12 and 1. Turkey in oven. Slowly over the day I begin to feel like shit - put food out to help selves.

7pm in bed, sweating and shaking. Phone in sick for work on 28th, 30th and 31st.

Feel better and think what was the point.

Yup, no different this year then!

QuacksInTheDark · 21/05/2020 01:42

Not even the Grinch could stop Christmas and he was a right prick.

cheesemongery · 21/05/2020 01:42

No idea about Chirstmas though. Sorry couldn't resist.

I expect that will definitely be cancelled.

1forAll74 · 21/05/2020 01:46

I just hope it is, then it might stop all the inane talking, and planning and preparing for it, around August and September time. Last year I saw a few Christmas trees in peoples house in September.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/05/2020 01:49

I do worry about poor old Father Christmas. Old and fat - evidently doesn’t work off all those mince pies during the year - he must be a prime target for the plague. 🙁

cheesemongery · 21/05/2020 01:49

@CustardySergeant - I haven't seen my 22 year old son since Christmas day either, you know when you make plans through Jan, then Feb then say see you soon... Oh. I can't see you. We talk lots, but a socially distanced visit doesn't seem quite right.

eaglejulesk · 21/05/2020 02:19

Of course Christmas won't be cancelled, it's a religious celebration, it wasn't just invented for people to buy presents and have parties (or even family celebrations), it means more than that. I agree with the above sentiment though - hopefully it will stop all that rubbish.

antisocialdistance · 21/05/2020 03:00

Maybe just celebrate Yule, Hannukah or Kwanzaa instead if it is.

Pixieblu · 21/05/2020 03:04

I hope not, DS will be 2 in December and I wanted this Christmas to be perfect, he was a newborn during his first Christmas and last Christmas was a disaster and I didn't book a visit with Santa in time. I was going to make it up ti him this year

FortunesFave · 21/05/2020 07:50

Pixie don't worry....they remember the weirdest things fondly you know...simple stuff. And mostly, their memories are from 3 onwards....for many even older.

ITonyah · 21/05/2020 08:30

I would love to be able to go to Midnight mass this year.

Leflic · 21/05/2020 08:37

It would be amazing if they still had social distancing in shops and only let in a maximum number.
What spoils Christmas round here. From November onwards. Town is insanely busy and not in a good way.
