What does your 6 year old daughter actually play with?

Mine has asked for lol dolls and a vtech diary, but she doesn't play with dolls. I'm not sure diary will hold her attention for long.

She plays with her arts and crafts, and reads her books. She also plays with her brothers trains. Dolls and such like - no. She does always ask for them though?

I have got her a couple of lols, arts and crafts, books, a mermaid blanket, and vtech diary.

Am I missing a trick?

Ours have the vtech camera. They enjoy taking photos and videos. Then they realised they could put hats/ears on the images which they think is fun. Finally they realised they could play simple games on it- that's the main use now tbh.

Lego and crafts/stationery. That’s it! She doesn’t play with dolls/toys at all.
She does like her v-tech secret diary though!

Elbeagle · 12/12/2019 14:21

I should elaborate a bit... she got the diary for her 6th birthday and really likes it.
For Christmas I’ve got her the Lego friends fairground set, the v-tech globe, a bath bomb making set, a cross stitch set, some aqua beads and some isadora moon books.

I have bought previously lego, playmobil and barbies. Not held her attention for long. She has had hours of play from Magformers (got the village a few years ago in a black Friday sale), and also her vtech camera. I might get her the vtech globe for her birthday. Thanks for the idea.

She also plays with her hatchimals collection, just not lol dolls.

She has a karaoke machine. This was a hit.

Dd plays with Lego, loves arts, crafts, stickers, colouring, playdoh. I’ve bought her a leapfrog Rockit twist (I think it’s called) to play some simple games on. She also likes mine craft on the iPad/dh’s switch.

Elbeagle · 12/12/2019 14:55

Mine said ‘I like opening LOL dolls but not playing with them’, so I’m not buying any more of them!

HairyToity · 12/12/2019 14:58

I limit ipad use. She gets a bit addicted!

I might get her some lego for her birthday in February. I last bought here some for her 5th birthday, and she had no interest. Perhaps she will like it at 7.

My six year old dd still loves dolls and role play. Other popular items are books, Lego, playmobil, LOL, craft stuff and she's desperate for a vtech watch.

Paddingtonthebear · 12/12/2019 15:52

Mine has just turned 7 and still likes Shopkins and beanie boos but mostly likes reading or fiddling about with pens, paper, notebooks etc.

She got a keyboard for her birthday which has been a big hit. And she’s had loads of fun with a sleeping bag!

Paddingtonthebear · 12/12/2019 15:52

Oh yes and Lego friends.

Absoluteunit · 12/12/2019 15:57

DD is 6 in a couple of months. She actually does play with LOL dolls.

Playmobil (esp. the waterpark) gets played with the most, then Barbies, then LOL dolls. Other things she enjoys a lot are Play Doh, drawing and Magformers. She has too much screen time so we're cutting that down at the moment

BeyondMyWits · 12/12/2019 16:04

Worst year ever was when DD was 6 - bought Nintendogs for her DS game thing... Spent all of Christmas day trying to get the damn thing to recognise her voice "Buster", "Buster", "BUSTER", "BUSTER!!!", "buster... ," sends shivers down my back remembering the stress of that day!

HairyToity · 12/12/2019 16:33

Quite tempted by rockit twist.

Playmobil... endlessly
Karaoke machine
Marble run periodically
She's also really quite into the Our Generation style dolls. We have a fair few of those and outfits now and she does like to get them all out to play schools.

WeirdPookah · 12/12/2019 16:39

Sylvanian families
Playmobil
Superhero dolls
Drawing/colouring
GoPro type camera to take out

Getting her some FunkoPops to see if she likes those, she will be 6 in the new year.

aapsiat · 12/12/2019 16:44

Mine enjoyed lots of lego, a few books on animals and fiction and some arts and crafts. Lols not too hot for my girls, generally stuffed animals do a lot better.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 12/12/2019 16:46

My Dd aged 6 plays with dolls most of the time. Usually lols in her wooden dolls house but she has other small dolls and is always making stuff for them out of paper/ empty boxes.

She also loves art and crafts stuff but does play with Lego too.

HairyToity · 12/12/2019 16:48

Bought superhero dolls and my generation dolls previously, again not really played with.

DD just turned 7 and likes craft sort of toys. And then sets you can get that make perfume, bath bombs etc. Also likes Lego.

CottonSock · 12/12/2019 16:51

Lego, aquabeads, pens and craft, bath bombs. Nail varnish.
Sometimes other toys if she engages with her younger sis.

Di11y · 12/12/2019 17:10

I'm getting my nearly 5yo various craft sets (spirograph, spinning paint thingy), gardening gloves and seeds, and then a year ticket to the farm and soft play.
