Thank you @TheGriffle for the title. Lots of mole whacking will be going on over Christmas thanks to this thread!

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Billsbill I’m sure it did.
My concern is the actually really poor kids (minimum wage households, debt, etc) don’t flag up as a “group” and yet their the ones who would love a backpack.
Maybe schools would be a start. Do a free ( anonymous) raffle for any kid that wanted the stuff or something.

@weebarra I'm a nurse and you are right, the wards are full of food at this time! This may sound a little naff, but honestly the best thing you could give to any nurse who you feel delivers good care (and that doesn't have to be directly to your son, could be a conversation with you etc), is a small card documenting what they did, why it was helpful to you, and thanking them. Doesn't have to be lengthy, a few lines will do.

We all need testimonial evidence from patients or their families when we go through our triennial revalidation process. No one likes having to overtly ask for this kind of feedback, and absolutely love it when it is volunteered!

Reastie · 04/12/2019 05:36

Billsbill contact the food bank and ask. Where I live there are special seasonal collections as gifts for families and there’s also the hygiene bank which I think have a seasonal collection on too. I saw that docu too, really moving and thought provoking.

@Billsbill the Salvation Army does a gift appeal for new gifts for Christmas every year. If there is one near you. It isn’t just for little children but for gifts for all ages and specially want new so they kids have a new gift for Xmas.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/12/2019 06:14

My local radio station does a toy/gift appeal. As does the church food bank. I'm lucky in the way that my work has collection boxes. I dropped the hype t-shirts in.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/12/2019 06:27

Lakeland vouchers attached.

Billsbill · 04/12/2019 06:50

Thank you for everyone's ideas. Although it won't be much I do really want the gifts to go to someone who would benefit. I will do some.local research today.

imsorryiasked · 04/12/2019 06:52

@MerryTwinkletoes have a look here
Nice scarf? Diary? Mugs? Handcream?

Unless she is partial to a good swear IBM which case maybe this (warning don't look round the rest of the shop if you are easily offended!!!)

EvilHerbivore · 04/12/2019 07:09

I've been in hospital 10 days now and going a bit stir crazy so just saying a big thank you to everyone on this thread - nice to have 'friends' to read when the cabin fever kicks in!

NoWordForFluffy · 04/12/2019 07:18

Bloody hell, Evil, that's some going. My longest stay is 8 days when I had DS and that was bad enough. I hope you get out soon. Flowers

Goldenphoenix · 04/12/2019 07:18

@EvilHerbivore hope you are home soon! X

JaneyJimplin · 04/12/2019 07:46

Another idea for donations - I’m Birmingham based and this is the Brum Christmas Dinner for care experienced young people aged 18-25. As Christmas is often a reminder of everything they never had, donations mean a Christmas dinner and presents can be put on on Christmas Day. Alternatively there is a gift list available at John Lewis (on the same link).

I don’t know if they are everywhere around the country, although I’ve seen there is another in Hackney.

Unihorn · 04/12/2019 08:05

My local council do a Christmas gifts appeal for looked after children. You can call them up for a child "profile" then drop the gifts into the council offices. Not sure if they're the only ones but thought it was a nice initiative. Our shopping centre does a similar thing too, and they used to give £5 vouchers out to anyone donating (which I always felt negated the donation a bit!)

imsorryiasked · 04/12/2019 08:29

Just seen this on hotukdeals in case shine is still looking for a switch lite with Mario kart: currys Ebay store here and code PICKME5 takes it down to £208.

Reastie · 04/12/2019 08:29

Evil I hope you’re ok and can get safely home soon.

Off out soon until lunch and banking on the thread not being used up in that time but if it does please feel free to set up new one.

My 6yo DS has just asked me to replace his broken Smart Globe, and I can't find any bargains -really can't face spending £50+ as I got the first one on sale for under £40 😩

Please let me know if anyone spots a bargain - specifically looking for this one with the 'pen'

Can anyone remember where I ordered the coffee bags from that were posted on one of the bargain threads please? I'd like to order a tin but can't for the life of me remember where I ordered them from and don't remember where I have put the ones I have bought.

There's a lovely orange tree wooden Noah's ark advent calendar reduced from £29.99 to £10 at Fenwicks. Delivery is free if you spend over £25 or £3.50. I'm sad my children are a little old for it, so I thought there maybe some mumsnetters who could put it away for next year. Or just open it and use it as a set. There was also a playmobil advent reduced to £10.
