Who does a Christmas/North pole breakfast on the 1st?

For a few years now I have done my children a 'Christmas breakfast' on the 1st December! We don't have an elf so I don't call it a 'Northpole breakfast' but it is pretty much the same.

I decorate the table and I have silver chargers that I put the food on - Christmas tree crumpets, mini mice pies and gingerbread men. This year I'm doing them a 'candy cane' of sliced strawberries and banana. I always put a little chocolate figure next to their place. They have Christmas plates and bottles I will get out. On the table will also be their Christmas card from me and their advent calendar (traditional picture one). They love it and it gets us all in the festive mood. Anyone else?

@UndertheCedartree

Awww, that sounds lovely! Grin

What a shame some people are shitting all over it. It's a Sunday (which for many is not a work day, and the kids will be at home,) so why not have some fun, and have a lovely Christmas Breakfast/Start of Advent breakfast?

I have never done this, but I think I will this year.

There are always some grumpy feckers on every thread. Makes you wonder why they come onto the Christmas board really just to poo-poo peoples Christmassy stuff! Confused! IMO the Christmas season starts on the 1st of December. (And ends on the 6th of January...) And we have advent calendars too, but the traditional ones made from cardboard.

There are a few mood hoovers on another thread too (about Christmas cards.) Instead of just scrolling past, they felt the need to come on to the thread blathering on about how they don't send them, how they ruin the planet, and generally virtue-signalling, and saying how 'liberating' it is to not send them. Wink FYI we recycle ours, ya know, like MOST people do!

Bully for them, but just because they don't do a certain thing, that doesn't mean they need to throw shade over those that DO enjoy it! Same with the 1st of December breakfast.

Sounds fab OP! Your kids/family will love it! Grin

Help please - what is an advent box? I didn’t know 1 December was special- we have the first chocolate from the advent calendar. Just an excuse to eat chocolate.

@UndertheCedartree
Sounds like you've had a pretty shit year so far, ignore the grinch and have a fabulous 1st December North Pole breakfast with your children. I'd not bother with the mini mice pies though. That typo did make me smile.
Best wishes and have a very Merry Christmas 🌲

Thanks for the photo that's my idea sorted for Sunday breakfast. The elf is arriving with my dd's advent calendar and tickets to the big wheel at the city's Christmas market! Also sets the scene for the countdown to Christmas for my three year old. She won't be so young and believe for that many years so I'm making the most of it while I can. Don't care what anyone else thinks. My Christmas, my time, my rules! Also i will get her to do her Christmas list and letter to Santa Smile

ysmaem · 28/11/2019 20:11

My kids are with their father this sunday morning, but I bought a reindeer egg mould thingy that you break two eggs into and your fried eggs should come out resembling a reindeer. So instead of a north pole brekkie we will be having the reindeer eggs with bacon ❤

AlohaMolly · 28/11/2019 20:11

I’ve never done a North Pole breakfast OP but it sounds like a lovely reason to have a family breakfast.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling this year. A couple of the garden centres near me do really nice grottos with free Santa visits. Could you see if there was one near you?

everythingisginandroses · 28/11/2019 20:15

Sounds lovely, OP Xmas Smile We do an exercise class as a family on Sunday mornings so have to eat a sensible breakfast, but maybe I'll do this next year.

BerwickLad · 28/11/2019 20:19

Actually fair play it does sound nice OP. Tbh I read your post last night and thought wtf is this another thing I'm expected to do now but I see it's not and you're just giving your kids a nice breakfast after a difficult year. Sorry OP.

@UndertheCedartree

mini mice pies.

I just noticed this too. (From your opening post!) Grin

Sounds yummy! Grin

Nope.

Christmas is a crescendo in this house.

Starting quietly in the 1st December... building up to the big day on the 25th, and then quietly fading away for the followings 12 days. Yes, we do the 12 days of Christmas and Epiphany. Bloody love a galette de rois.

LynetteScavo · 28/11/2019 20:34

I love Christmas pudding! Wouldn't mind eating it all winter!

Stock up, then you'll be able to keep eating it until Easter.

everythingisginandroses · 28/11/2019 20:37

Do you buy your galette de rois or make one, Lynette? I want one but don't know where to buy it from.

It's a bit like this in our house too. Smile

Tbh we've already gone through one box of quality street. What?! They were on offer at Morrisons. And then I had a really heavy cold so I neede a little treat ...

@aloha - thanks - I'll look into the garden centre idea.

You can’t win can you? I know loads of people who say ‘why but all this stuff just for one day?’

Spreading Christmassy stuff out surely stops young DCs from going into total hype for just the one day?

I agree it’s odd that people are so judgemental about it. My youngest DC is 14 and I may ask him if he wants a special breakfast to see December in. It’ll be a good excuse to also get my first Muppet Christmas Carol viewing in!!!

mariposa23 · 28/11/2019 20:47

I've never heard of this but it sounds so cute! I don't think we will do a "North Pole" breakfast but Sunday we will be putting our tree up & No work or school so I might set the table & do some pancakes before we start to decorate the christmas tree! Enjoy every minute of it you & your children will love it 😍

dementedma · 28/11/2019 20:48

I still resolutely hold out against advent calendars containing chocolate or gifts. Gets harder every year to find ones which just have pictures behind the windows, but I still manage.

LynetteScavo · 28/11/2019 20:52

@everythingisginandroses I have to make it. I used to just buy one when I lived in France. I even wear a paper hat if I've saved them from the crackers, but my DC don't appreciate it these days and just think I'm a fool.

UndertheCedartree · 28/11/2019 20:53

@sea - my favourite too! We always watch Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas eve before bed

We've got a lovely Eric carle calendar which I bring out every year. It's missing a few bits though - I think DD ate them when she was younger.
