Who does a Christmas/North pole breakfast on the 1st?

For a few years now I have done my children a 'Christmas breakfast' on the 1st December! We don't have an elf so I don't call it a 'Northpole breakfast' but it is pretty much the same.

I decorate the table and I have silver chargers that I put the food on - Christmas tree crumpets, mini mice pies and gingerbread men. This year I'm doing them a 'candy cane' of sliced strawberries and banana. I always put a little chocolate figure next to their place. They have Christmas plates and bottles I will get out. On the table will also be their Christmas card from me and their advent calendar (traditional picture one). They love it and it gets us all in the festive mood. Anyone else?

We don't. I tried it once but found it too much to organise first thing in the morning. So instead it has morphed into a "North Pole Party". We invite all the kids in the family round for the afternoon and eat the weirdest buffet food ever (pigs in blankets and candy canes anyone?). We get some Christmas themed crafts in and have fake snow ball fights. It's ridiculously fun!

As it's a Sunday , I might do pancakes for mine .

I used to mix up and chill Strawberry Nesquick in those little milk bottles (Lakeland) with the lid
a Christmas straw .
pancakes with syrup

They'll get their Dec 1st Hampers and DD will have her first Beauty Advent Bx (I'm going to re-use the same box and ribbon, put a new wooden number on . It's to generate less waste /plastic. I'll re-use the numbers next year , she can use the box)

Mine are late teens now .

I have honestly never heard of this and it sounds Stepford.

Is it a wind-up?

elQuintoConyo · 27/11/2019 22:46

Sounds like our Christmas morning: gingerbreadman-shaped pancakes, hot chocolate or coffee, fresh OJ. Plus stocking.

The first comes and goes. We'll be putting up the tree this weekend at some point, plus the advent calendar comes out, so that's enough faff, even though it's a Sunday this year.

Errr what now?

Lipperfromchipper · 27/11/2019 22:49

Never heard of this either Hmm is this one of things like the whole Christmas Eve box!!! (I don’t do that either)

kenandbarbie · 27/11/2019 22:50

I have never heard of this. With or without elf. We have got an elf this year though.

Cloudyyy · 27/11/2019 22:53

I want to do my first one this year! Can’t wait!

Kitkatfordinner · 27/11/2019 22:53

Snowmen made from 2 (shop bought) pancakes and strawberry lace scarf, choc finger arms, choc button eyes.

Soen · 27/11/2019 22:53

Is this a recent thing? Never heard of anyone doing this

Evilmorty · 27/11/2019 22:54

Love this!

Bouledeneige · 27/11/2019 22:55

Because there simply aren't enough rituals and spending for Christmas!
Honestly. Aren't there more important things in life than more and more conspicuous consumption?

housewifeoflittleitaly · 27/11/2019 22:57

It’s not a thing, OP is just asking who does it!

We don’t do 1st Dec breakfast but I do a nice dinner & the 1st Dec box. New pjs/advent calendar, Christmas duvet, watch a Christmas movie etc

I really like that idea though, as it’s a Sunday I’ll ask the kids and that might be a new thing.

NellyTimes · 27/11/2019 22:57

Oh great, here come the Christmas police 🙄

Lunde · 27/11/2019 22:58

Oh - I thought you meant more along the lines of sauna smoked reindeer, roast moose, bear sausage and lingonberry herring

.... all of which are available in my local shop!

Ohyesiam · 27/11/2019 22:58

What is the connection between Christmas and the north pole?
I’m thinking snow, but that seems a bit tenuous.
Please enlighten me.

lostlalaloopsy · 28/11/2019 05:02

I'm doing it this year! Usually on the first the elf arrives with advent calendars and the Christmas blankets/mugs/books - we use the same ones every year.

This year going to decorate the table with all of the above stuff plus a few treats. Sunday is pancake day here anyway so we will attempt some snowman ones!!

We have recently lost my Mum so trying hard to through some extra magic into Christmas for us all.

BlueOooChristmas · 28/11/2019 05:12

Sorry to hear that @lostlalaloopsy, it all sounds magical, I'm sure they'll love it.

BikeRunSki · 28/11/2019 05:19

Because that is where Father Christmas lives @Ohyesiam, in some stories. Otherwise it’s Lapland.

Legomadx2 · 28/11/2019 05:20

Fuck me I've heard it all now

North Pole breakfasts?

Dec 1 hampers?

Advent boxes?

To go with presumably the Christmas Eve pjs, boxes etc?

Before Christmas proper starts on the 25th?

Florin · 28/11/2019 05:29

The 1st of December is my favourite time of the year and we make a big deal out of it. It’s nice to have a day that is special to us without the pressure to see wider family. After our ds has gone to bed the night before we secretly decorate the kitchen with twinkly fairy lights and red and green crepe streamers and elf bunting. Our elves arrive on a home made 3d gingerbread train and bring with them his advent calendars and a few small things like a book, Christmas decoration, large kinder egg etc he also brings a selection of sugary breakfast items (as all elves love sugar!) We will then collect our tree that we picked out at the beginning of November and decorate it while listening to Christmas music and the log burner going and probably a glass of bubbles for us. Then late afternoon a full on roast with Christmas crackers. I am counting down the hours to Sunday!

Lilyflower1 · 28/11/2019 05:45

Have I gone to sleep and woken up in another world? Never heard of this and wouldn’t do it in a million years. Never did Americanised Hallowe’en dressing up shenanigans either.

But good luck and have a nice time.

indigo13 · 28/11/2019 05:48

Sounds brilliant and I hope I can get organised enough to copy you 🎄

whatswithtodaytoday · 28/11/2019 06:09

Is this all connected to that bloody elf on a shelf thing? I've never heard of it and don't know anyone who does it. Ditto Christmas Eve boxes, which I've only heard of on Mumsnet.

Christmas does not need to be a month long!

sam221 · 28/11/2019 06:13

I watch a Youtube family(Somers in Alaska) that actually live in North Pole Alaska and I don't think that even they follow this tradition?Confused
