What's everyone buying as an alternative now the above seem to be getting worse by the year?

The M&S chocs all pretty good. Their version of Lindor are actually nicer than Lindt imo and will generally be on half price offer once or twice before xmas so worth watching out for. Oh and their chocolate dusted truffles are delicious, not to be wasted on dc Wink.

CoughSplutter · 15/08/2019 17:45

Maltesers also taste horrible these days. Give the box a whiff and they smell chemically - ugh!

LittleAndOften · 15/08/2019 17:58

I think individual wrappers slow people down. It's just a shame so much comes in plastic now rather than shiny coloured foil. Can't be Malteasers tho - they're just too easy to snaffle in one go!

There's a Lindt outlet in Portsmouth with a Lindor pick n mix in lots of flavours you don't find elsewhere. I might do that this year (or just scoff the lot by mid October Grin).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/08/2019 20:16

The Malteaser truffles - I bought a couple of boxes because they're a lovely festive red (DS scoffed most of them )

Mini Toblerone
Terry Chocolate Orange Segsations

There's a Lindt shop in Bluewater , last time I went they had new Summer flavours (Strawberry+Cream, Blueberry+cream , fruit flavours)

I buy the gold coins, the Lindt shapes (reindeer , snowmen, Father Christmas) caramel, white chocolate .....just go round the display with a bag Xmas Grin

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 15/08/2019 20:23

Aldi do knock-off guillan seashells all year round which are brilliant, and flaky truffly things at christmas that are addictive.

At the other end of the scale, if you want to splash put on a treat, i cannot recommend Kennedy’s more highly:

I've never liked any of the chocolates in Roses/Quality Streets. I always appreciate a box of celebrations though. I bought a box of Heroes as a present today though and the variety in there seem quite good.

RezCowgirl · 19/08/2019 11:00

Still mourning the loss of Bendicks Mingles since they were discontinued Sad

Gatepost1820 · 20/08/2019 17:07

M&S Italian chocolate assortment is divine! They come individually wrapped in beautiful gold paper so look pretty when decanted into a glass bowl.

LoonyLunaLoo · 21/08/2019 13:29

@RezCowgirl omg Mingles 😢😢😢

99problemsandjust1appt · 21/08/2019 15:22

Lindt make me feel so ill🤢 every time I e eaten them and I’m fine with all other chocolate

inwood · 21/08/2019 17:12

I know this sounds wanky but the green and blacks mini bars and the m and s opera truffles. Celebrations and roses go unbeaten in our house they're just rank. I don't think it's any more expensive as you eat less.

Xenadog · 22/08/2019 22:17

Another call for Sainsbury’s own tubs of chocolates. They are so much nicer than the other tubs.

OrangeCinnamon · 24/08/2019 09:35

@yaflamingalah I'm going to have to source that for Dd she is a Lindt addict ..luckily we pop into the aforementioned outlet in Portsmouth a lot

bookmum08 · 24/08/2019 09:44

Or....you could not bother with buying chocolates and buy a better pressy instead Grin
PS I love chocolate. Box of After Eights for me please.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/08/2019 17:48

or..you could not bother with buying chocolates

Marches book off the thread . We'll have none of that chintzy talk about No Chocolates . Xmas Shock

Shouldbedoing · 24/08/2019 17:57

CoOp seashells are really nice

bookmum08 · 24/08/2019 19:22

OMG 70isa you are right. What on earth was I thinking? I will punish myself by eating a mint Aero.

Yaflamingalah · 26/08/2019 17:12

@OrangeCinnamon - you lucky begger! I really want some again this year but have never seen that particular box in the shops - I might have to pay the extortionate Amazon price Blush

BiddyPop · 27/08/2019 08:33

We buy a big bag of Leonidas orangettes (about €10 worth) and sometimes I get a box of Leonidas mixed chocs as well.

Because of the fresh ingredients in their chocs, you can only get the box in Christmas week rather than ahead of time, but the orangettes can be bought early (but there is then the danger that they will be eaten early 🤭).

I sometimes make chocolate truffles as well - some good chocolate, some double cream, maybe some alcohol if only for adult consumption, melt together, allow to cool to softly solid, scoop out balls and roll in cocoa powder. Yum....

OrangeCinnamon · 30/08/2019 13:53

Ohh Biddypop those sound delish.

Myfanwyprice · 30/08/2019 14:02

yaflamingalah That amazing Lindt box was on Wowcher or Groupon last year, I got it for the dc to share - it was amazing! Think it was £10 or £15.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 30/08/2019 15:23

I tried to get a nice glass bowl from the charity shops last year for my chocolates but couldn't find one. I'll start looking again. i think it's only right that I get some M&S AND some Sainsbury's to test them out and see how they compare to my beloved quality street. Well, less beloved now but they are very strongly associated with Christmas for me and it wouldn't feel right without them.

drspouse · 30/08/2019 16:50

Mini Green and Blacks, or I might make sure slow cooker fudge.

MileyWiley · 30/08/2019 16:57

Celebrations or Heroes here, no Quality Streets or Roses thank you.
