What's everyone buying as an alternative now the above seem to be getting worse by the year?

Lindt lindor milk chocolates. Taste nice and I buy them when they are on offer.

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/08/2019 08:17

We do a couple of big bags of mini toblerones. For a couple of years we could only get them at duty free (just milk chocolate) but last year I spotted them in B&M. I may add some Lindt balls this year.

missyB1 · 15/08/2019 08:21

I can’t stand the taste of Lindt either Sad I will get the little toblerone bites and ask Santa for a box of Godiva truffles.

Past few years we've got Aldis take on quality street. They are really nice and far cheaper. Found a nice Xmas tin in homesense and put them in there

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 15/08/2019 08:28

I’m not. I just end up eating the whole tub by myself and I really don’t need to put on anymore weight.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/08/2019 08:32

I quite like M&S toffees and chocs. You can get bags of them - they have jewelled coloured wrappers. I get a few different types and decant them into a bowl over Christmas and eat one every time I go past

LittleAndOften · 15/08/2019 08:36

Lily O'Brien's. I actually prefer them to hotel chocolat (too much praline - yuck). For a naice box of chocs you can't go wrong.

HelloToMyKitty · 15/08/2019 08:40

Second Lily O’Brien’s. Whitaker’s Samplers if you can get them (this used to be my Xmas treat as a kid since I didn’t grow up in the UK).

This is a good idea, I loathe Quality Street/Roses yet everyone insists on buying them for Christmas ....

ALemonyPea · 15/08/2019 08:46

Terrys choc orange minis
Mini toblerones
Thornton's do a box of something as well which are nice
M&S Lindt ball equivalent

HobbyIsCodeForDogging · 15/08/2019 08:54

Heroes or Celebrations would be a substitute for those you've mentioned, but I think you're better with the top end of Aldi or Lidl - so their luxury chocolates but at a decent price point.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/08/2019 09:07

Mini diam like you get at IKEA

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 15/08/2019 09:11

Last year we bought a lot of Malteser sweets. The individually wrapped ones that you get in celebrations

AnnieAnt · 15/08/2019 09:19

Waitrose do a really good own brand alternative. Like Roses/QS used to be.

Floralnomad · 15/08/2019 09:22

We’ve moved away from large tins / boxes to smaller quality chocolates . I like the Lily O’briens Dessert chocs and also, last year we got a few of the Costco selections in the very pretty boxes for at home and gifts and they were lovely .

MrsLem · 15/08/2019 09:30

Love these ideas. Can anyone think of any that aren't individually wrapped? Even if it's a lovely bar? Trying to cut down on wrappers. Thanks!

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 15/08/2019 09:34

Sainsbury's own brand rub of chocs have been nice the last couple of years.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 15/08/2019 13:03

Sainsbury's own brand rub of chocs have been nice the last couple of years.

This. We had a couple of boxes of them last year and they were lovely. Good ratio of the ones I like (orange and strawberry) with everything else and didn't taste like soap.

Costco usually have some lovely ones too if you have a card/someone who can buy them for you.

Shufflebumnessie · 15/08/2019 16:07

I actually asked my mum not to buy the usual box of Roses as they are just not good any more.
Last year I bought a huge box of Guylians Seashells. They are my new favourites. They don't contain Palm Oil (which I think has ruined the taste of a lot of chocolate).
We also had a big box of maltesers. We'll be doing the same this year.

LittleAndOften · 15/08/2019 17:10

I'm pregnant and have a glucose load test tomorrow, but after reading this thread all I can think of is diving head first into a giant box of chocolates!

Flamingo84 · 15/08/2019 17:16

Guylian’s shells are amazing but a bit samey, samey after a few. A huge vat of malteasers would be my pick but probably wouldn’t last a day!

For proper luxury can’t beat Charbonnel et Walker. Bought DH the Jamaican rum ones as a stocking filler one year and they became firm favourites. I like the pink champagne ones. I still have one left that I’m saving for an emergency from a box I had for mother’s day!

ExpletiveDelighted · 15/08/2019 17:19

We did big boxes of Maltesers but they didn't last long.

RicStar · 15/08/2019 17:23

I really liked the M&S tub last year - more expensive than Rose's etc for a reason tin is maybe £10. Sainsbury also ok. I dont rate the waitrose ones but maybe we just got a poor selection.

MrsLem · 15/08/2019 17:24

Never in a million years would I have thought of malteasers. Great idea!

KateUrrer · 15/08/2019 17:26

Good question OP. Thanks for posting it!

Ylvamoon · 15/08/2019 17:32

Green & Blacks do lovely mini chocolate bar/ gift sets around Christmas. 😋
