Christmas food delivery substitutions

Anyone got any crazy ones for their christmas food delivery? I saw the thread from the lady with the appalling Asda delivery..........

Just had my receipt through and heaved a sigh of relief when they have only subbed a couple of bags of kettle chips with Pringles. Good job I like pringles!

Ocado arriving in an hour with my turkey! Never ordered a turkey online, let alone to arrive Xmas Eve but the only thing they’ve subbed is some posh bread which I’m not bothered about as have too much bread anyway so good excuse not to accept the sub.

Only one bad sub here: I ordered a tray of prepared med veg for a buffet (bit weird I guess but thought we needed some vitamins with the carbs!) and they subbed with a bag of raw unprepared casserole veg, so that got returned and we'll just take a multivitamin....! Was quite surprised how good the shop was this year as it wasn't last year (Tesco).

Last year was awful, I went with Asda and I’m so grateful I at least bought a turkey in advance. I had much less money last year too as was on maternity leave. Nothing crazy, just really stupid. I can’t remember specifics now but parsnips and carrots substituted for completely different veg rather than a different version. Gravies and stocks substituted too, and meat

Needless to say this year I did my Christmas good shopping in person and still pre ordered a turkey well ahead of time. It’s not worth being disappointed over!

Just one pack of fresh stuffing missed off. All the other subs were perfect. Same items just different brand. Just popping to local store for the missing stuffing. Im a bit smug tbh 🤣🙈

Only thing we had subbed was sausagemeat for what looked like the exact same sausagemeat... Morrisons FTW

One slightly useless (for us) one here, which was Diet Coke for normal Coke, which isn't any use for my Nigella ham in Cola. But no real hassle replace from the corner shop.

I had my aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings switched with batter mix ..: if I wanted to make them myself I'd have just made the batter mix!

They (Tesco) also forgot my cream, and the sprouts they delivered look like they should be from last Christmas.

Other than that though nothing major, I purchased my meat from the butchers so no cock ups could happen!

We have no substitutions from Ocado.

Tesco order came yesterday, 3 subs, one was a roast beef they subbed it for a cheaper cut but more meat, it was actyally the one i usually but and i wasn't relying on just ordered one to put in the freezer as it was half price so if it didn't come it wouldnt be end of the world.

The second was they subbed was trifle sponges for sponge fingers, again thats fine.

And the third I can't remember but it was fine.

I have learned from years ago not to buy anything major like the turkey because they don't send it!

I was feeling a bit fancy so ordered Madeira cake rather than sponge fingers for my trifle. It was subbed with a Jamaica ginger cake. That’ll teach me!
Also 80 metres of cling film instead of 20m. That should last a few years...

I had 7 substitutions from Asda.. all were pretty much OK except the Bucks Fizz, which was substituted for Babycham

Ocado subbed 32 pigs in blankets for 16, so I was happy! Also a load of tiger bread for a different loaf of tiger bread. However they completely missed my shredded sprouts in pancetta - no sub, no note of it being unavailable, it just wasn't there. Luckily my MIL asked if I was good for veg as it made me realise I hadn't seen any sprouts so managed to nip into Sainsbury's yesterday.

Ocado, 11 missing items. 3 substituted for an organic alternative. 8 items. It substituted including coke and bread. This has annoyed me as I'd have taken any coke like drink (or anything fizzy), and any bread rather than go shopping today.

I stubbornly refuse to accept that Ocado has nothing that they could have substituted these two items for and I've told them as much. They have replied with a series of prewritten irrelevant emails.

No subs from Morrisons, cannot fault their service.

My Ocado order is due in the next hour, just checked the email and they have subbed the apricot stuffing for sage and onion. That will be fine as long as it's gluten free too. Also have subs for bread, half fat creme fraiche instead of full fat and large pain au chocolate instead of mini ones.

Waitrose:
Turkey gravy subbed for chicken stock
Peas & bacon for spinach
Clementines for mandarins
Mixed roasting veg for parsnips
Mini pastries for pain aux raisins

NO champagne
NO London mint balls

Really disappointed- back to M&S next year

They’ve subbed my Wotsits for Cheese Balls and then subbed my Cheese Balls for Cheese Savouries

Also, my appletiser for J2O spritz which is frankly, unforgivable.

Bacon kettle chips subbed for salted cheese & onion kettle chips for salted kettle chips and peosi max subbed for cherry Pepsi so nothing major!

Surely all that needs to actually be on the Christmas delivery right before Christmas Day is fresh veg though? I sympathised with the Asda lady, but if frozen chicken dippers were that vital, you’d just have your freezer stocked up well in advance of a busy period, and not just cross your fingers you’d get them at the busiest time of year? They’re frozen! They’re not going off. Same for those who were saying the crackers (non edible) didn’t get delivered. Again, buy them well in advance and stick them on top of the cupboard, surely?!

I had the exact same issue as onemouseplace as they subbed coke for diet coke. I'm going to stick it in the slow cooker for the ham anyway though. Not sure it will work but never mind.

OP I'm gutted. I've just had kettle chips subbed for my Pringles. I find pringles so addictive I only allow myself to have them Christmas Day. I'm gutted!

I did have a bonus though - I ordered 4 different fruit ciders for a multi buy deal and they put 3 extra ones in that I wasn't charged for!
