Christmas food delivery substitutions

Anyone got any crazy ones for their christmas food delivery? I saw the thread from the lady with the appalling Asda delivery..........

Just had my receipt through and heaved a sigh of relief when they have only subbed a couple of bags of kettle chips with Pringles. Good job I like pringles!

Ocado due in the next hour, apparently they’ve subbed Pepsi max for Pepsi cherry - that’s going back and I’ll have to send the teens out to buy some. Also haven’t got sprouts with bacon, but changed for sprouts so I can live with that.

WinkysTeatowel · 24/12/2018 09:07

Morrison's here, all arrived as order with a random addition of a bag of frozen roast potatoes Confused

Gumps · 24/12/2018 09:10

Actually you've just made me check the time and my order hasn't actually arrived in my slot! Never mind stressing about my Pringles what if it doesn't come?!Shock

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2018 09:21

We had turkey gravy subbed with chicken gravy. Not the end of the world, it'll be OK. I think it's a bit rubbish though that they didn't make sure they had enough to fulfill the orders.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 24/12/2018 09:23

Can I ask why your not using the substitute option if you shop online? The only random one I had was years ago I got light bulbs from Ocado Instead of Tin foil 😳😳😳😳 after that episode I started to make use of the substitute option.

However as I'm shopping a bit more spread out and in advance I got most of my shopping in Aldi

LesLavandes · 24/12/2018 09:27

Ocado. 2 things missing. Cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake and celeriac and potato bake. Annoying

IShitChristmasGlitter · 24/12/2018 09:27

Not one sub here with morrisons....oh tell a lie my funsize mars bars were changed to funsize malteasers but thats even better.

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2018 09:28

I popped into aldi for a couple of loaves of bread this morning as soon as it opened. It was empty with plenty of everything left. Could have bought everything there and then tbh. I would have been nervous leaving it that late though.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 24/12/2018 09:28

Oh a BTW all stock for Christmas? It was ordered many many months ago and it by the shops but by the order and logistics team in the her office.....the shops have NO CONTROL over the stock they are supplied and no way of it being altered due to why people order online for delivery. As for Ocado? It's also all down to ordering and logistics teams.....
Turkeys are ordered over a yet in advance as you do have to rear them ditto growing spuds etc.....having worked at a well known retailers head office over Christmas I can tell you stress levels for warehouse distribution running to plan are very high but staff are more concerned with Easter and summer now.

I will raise a glass to my former colleagues who work in store and the stress and vitriol they face from customers today

MissCherryCakeyBun · 24/12/2018 09:30

*Not ordered by the stores.....

NothingTraLaLa · 24/12/2018 09:30

Ocado subbed Waitrose double cream for Yeo Valley double cream, but that was the only change. I think I will survive.

Efferlunt · 24/12/2018 09:37

Nothing too bad for us onions were missing but fortunately i had plenty in. On the plus side we got a massive extra posh chocolate tort free as it was the last persons substitution which they had rejected! Delivery guy said it was going in the bin otherwise! Also tried to offer us loads of suasages in bacon that were also unwanted substitutions from the last people, but we are veggies.

MamaHechtick · 24/12/2018 09:38

Ocado swapped macaroni cheese with butternut squash for just a plain macaroni cheese meal, and our pasta Bolognese bake wasn't available so we weren't charged. That's it.
We are going away today so the ready meals were only for a just in case.

The only good thing about being at the in-laws is no stress or worry about the Christmas essentials. Next year though I'll be doing Christmas again.

PickleMeThis · 24/12/2018 09:45

Asda
Ordered sausage meat, they sent sausages (no biggie I’ll just peel the skins off)
Ordered coke they sent coke cans (even better)
Ordered a small gammon joint, they sent a massive one

Feel like I benefited from most of them!

Rhinofeet · 24/12/2018 09:52

Not bad here. One substitute from Asda. Figs for blackberries. A little odd but it's fine.

I am impressed overall. In previous years I've had to do a Xmas Eve last minute dash to get something vital.

WinkysTeatowel · 24/12/2018 09:55

@Gumps have you called them?

Twisique · 24/12/2018 10:14

Did anyone get a gift from waitrose?

Last year it was a panettone.

SimpleSimpler · 24/12/2018 10:15

No swaps here
Morrisons is fantastic! They supply from a warehouse which helps a lot

MrsPinkCock · 24/12/2018 10:30

@YouCantPolishThis

I think it’s the fact that regular coke has sugar in and it puts a nice sticky glaze on the ham, so Diet Coke won’t work! It’ll just end up with weird tasting meat. I’d nip to the corner shop if you have one.

I had 8 substitutions (Tesco) and one short date (a cheeseboard going out of date on 27 December).

The only slightly odd one was substituting my parsnips for carrots, when they’d already substituted the carrots I ordered for a different kind in more quantity. I sent the second batch back, nobody needs that many different varieties of carrot!!

LoudBatPerson · 24/12/2018 11:03

My orders where great this year. The major meet joints were all preorders form burger so we picked them up without issue. Yesterday I had an Ocado and a Tesco delivery.

Ocado has no subs, no unavailable and not short dates, so well done to them!

Tesco subbed a pack of 50 teabags for a pack of 100 (price matched ), so all good.

likeridingabike · 24/12/2018 11:09

No subs from Ocado but DDs sushi (Christmas eve nibbles for dinner) was missing as was the ice cream she had asked for, oddly the ice cream was on the receipt so must have missed the bag, spotted by the driver. We're going near an M&S later so we'll get some if it's not too hellish.

melin · 24/12/2018 11:20

We had chicken nuggets substituted for gluten free ones and no onion ring crisps! I didn't think that was bad from Sainsbury's

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2018 13:40

I got mistletoe instead of cranberries Xmas Confused I'm not entirely convinced by the idea of mistletoe jelly.

SleepySofa · 24/12/2018 15:26

We got brandy cream instead of brandy sauce (rejected, got some in Waitrose) and a toffee pecan roulade instead of a chocolate praline one (accepted this one) - from Tesco. Last year we had loads of subs so I was pretty relieved.

Pengweng · 24/12/2018 15:49

Morrisons subbed my stuffing wrapped in bacon with chipolatas wrapped in 🥓 Grin
They rang me at 8.30 pm and asked if they could deliver it early (meant to be between 10-11pm).

Sainsbury's on the other hand cocked up my meat order. Took them over an hour of me standing there waiting for them to go and bloody get it off the pallets which had yet to be unloaded even though they contained all the food for the pre-ordered food collections. They then didn't offer any reason for being so disorganised or any apologies. Bloody Muppets.
