Just got back and for 3 people we've spent £85
That doesn't include alcohol or sweets /crisps/desserts etc
Not sure if that's a lot or standard

OP posts:
MaMisled · 22/12/2018 19:21

Including pet food, case of beer, prosecco and Bucks Fizz, I spent £220 today. There's DH and I, 3 grown up DCS and 4 guests Xmas day. Menu planned until Saturday 29th.

Oratorio · 22/12/2018 19:35

Around £200 which includes Christmas Day for 8, Boxing Day and some bits for a party in between. I’ll need to get more alcohol though.

NowImFound · 22/12/2018 19:37

Approx £150 for 4 of us and 8 on Christmas day (we are hosting). I shopped between Aldi, which was about £110 and Tesco which was around £40.

MotherOfTheNoise · 22/12/2018 19:48

I don't even want to think about it. We have 32 coming for Christmas Lunch Shock

BillyAndTheSillies · 22/12/2018 19:51

Just added some bits to my food order arriving tomorrow and it's hovering at £175. This is my first year hosting and I've gone a little crazy.
There's 6 adults and one toddler for Christmas dinner here.

SilentBob · 22/12/2018 19:56

4 adults.

Approximately £200 on the main food shop, including booze and a couple of last minute gifts.

Have to top up on the wine and beer tomorrow though, as we have dipped into it already.

Fuck it, it's Christmas.

Gingerivy · 22/12/2018 20:13

About £250, but that covers all holiday food and regular shop from now until New Year's Day for myself and two pre-teen boys. I bought some alcohol free drinks, figuring I'd let myself at least feel like I was living it up. Xmas Grin

pontiouspilates · 22/12/2018 20:15

£88 on booze
£90 Waitrose (inc Turkey)
£46 Sainsburys
£57 table decs, crackers etc
4 adults and two teens. Doesn't seem too bad when it will feed us all for three days (hopefully with booze to spare!)

duckling84 · 22/12/2018 21:43

Im gobsmacked at some of these amounts.

We're hosting Christmas dinner for 10 (5 adults, 1 teen and 4 under 10s), I've spent £25 on food and drink for Christmas day.

LtGreggs · 22/12/2018 21:47

How are you hosting Christmas Day inc drinks (alcohol?) for £2.50 per head? I mean I guess you can and that's fine - but you must be having basically a roast chicken dinner? I've spent more because we're having much more / different / richer food than usual, which I assume many of the folk above are doing.

Kenworthington · 22/12/2018 21:47

£380 for all food And all booze (lots of it) for 7 Xmas day and 8 Boxing Day. Booze and some food will last quite a few days

LtGreggs · 22/12/2018 21:50

Mine works out at about £8 per head per day, but doesn't include alcohol.

tryinganewname · 22/12/2018 21:54

£100 - we're doing dinner for 8 on Christmas Day and there's a couple of bits for DH in there. Three of us are vegetarian.

We're not providing alcohol though so only includes a large bottle of gin and some tonic.

Owlettele · 22/12/2018 21:55

DH just back from foraging for ours. We spent just under 45 for us and 2 dcs 4 and 16 months 🍷🍷🎅🎅🎅

Ragwort · 22/12/2018 21:57

duckling but what exactly do you buy for £25 to feed 10 people for Christmas lunch? I am sure it can be done if you shop very, very carefully but a decent turkey (not necessarily free range) will cost the best part of £25 and if you are including alcohol most people would probably have at least one bottle of something sparkling, a couple of bottles of wine plus soft drinks and port or brandy after the meal on Christmas Day is usually offered.
I know people have different expectations according to their personal financial circumstances but I think you are doing very well to provide a Christmas lunch for £25.

katienana · 22/12/2018 22:32

Fuck knows
I've been buying bits for weeks (port, crisps, crackers, wine, fizz, chocs) had a £150 Tesco shop delivered and anticipate spending another £100 in m&s. 4 of us on the day and catering for 13 on boxing day.

TheLastNigel · 22/12/2018 22:43

£215 to feed 10 of us today (wider family Christmas meal) and four of us Christmas Day. I think that's not bad actually-we will have leftovers from today to eat tomorrow too...

tubspreciousthings · 22/12/2018 22:53

£170 - it's a hideous amount of money but we've drained the fridge/freezer/store cupboards over the last few weeks so probably overspent

totallycluelessoverhere · 22/12/2018 22:54

I honestly can’t inagine a Christmas dinner for 10 people for £25 when it includes 5 adults.
I imagine one of three scenarios:
The adult guests are all bringing significant contributions to split the cost and a great party will be had.
Nobody drinks much and it is a simple roast chicken or vegetarian dinner.
The alcohol will run out after half an hour and everyone will be miserable, especially when they realise Christmas dinner is potatoes, veg and wafer thin pre cooked turkey slices with watery bisto gravy.

ohtheholidays · 22/12/2018 22:56

I think I've spent about £200 on food and alcohol for Christmas Eve,Christmas day, boxing day although the tinned and dried goods, sweets, biscuits ect will last alot longer than the 3 days.

dottycottton · 22/12/2018 22:58

£120 but that's just for me and DD. We eat out on xmas eve and with family on xmas day. So basically a load of snacks, treats and wine for me!

Nothisispatrick · 22/12/2018 22:58

£25 😂 glad I’m going to that dinner.

My parents have done food. DP and I have done wine, we spent £170. That’s for the 5 days we’re away with them not just Xmas day.

Mum likes good quality and we have a mix of meat eaters, veggies and a vegan so I dread to think how much she’s spent.

Blondie1993 · 22/12/2018 23:06

Spent about £140 in Waitrose today. Just partner and I for dinner this year as he is on call - no alcohol for the same reason! Did include some cleaning items and meals for about 4 days. He picked up cheeses ect from Morrison's so that's not included.

Beatitudes · 22/12/2018 23:28

£150 in Sainsbury's earlier ( used £20 of Nectar points too). No wine/ booze in that..... DH dept but I don't drink much alcohol anyway. Family of 4 & grandparents coming for Christmas dinner
