Okay so:
Turkey (with bacon)
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Sausage meat
Honey roasted parsnips
Roast potatoes
Carrots
Green beans
Cranberry sauce
Yorkshire pudding???

Is that it? I've never made one myself and I'm panicking that I've forgotten something? Also, do you do Yorkshire pudding for Christmas? What do you eat the rest of the day? Help!

Love this thread! So interesting to see what every has.

Ours involves three kinds of potatoes but maybe that's an Irish thing...

Turkey
Ham
Roast potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Croquette potatoes
Mushy peas (for my Dad, think everyone else wouldn't mind if we crossed these off the list but he loves them)
Honey roast carrots
Parmesan parsnips
Cabbage (only my mum and me like this so we're cheating this year with a microwave version)
Brussels sprouts (done with pancetta and maple syrup to completely disguise the taste)
Three types of stuffing - we usually do a sausage meat one and a plain sage and onion but this year we have a GF guest so have found a recipe for him. Am unwilling to give up the sausage meat one, my mum's going to bring the sage and onion one as it's her favourite.
Gravy - if I can find a good GF one that works we'll just do the one version
Cranberry sauce (looks nice on the table but not sure how much of it gets used)
Yorkshire Relish - we love this in our house

Think that's it for dinner. Nothing difficult, it's all just a matter of working out the timings so everything is hot.

Sister and partner are bringing fancy cheeses and crackers for a cheese board. Am in negotiations with DH re the trifle - I think we can cheat and go with an M&S one, he wants to do it by hand. There will be pudding and custard, posh ice cream and jelly for DS and my Dad, and a big box of Milk Tray.

Drinks-wise, there will be Bucks Fizz and French 75 cocktails, wine at dinner.

Can't wait! Am reading Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles, would highly recommend, even though I probably won't cook anything from it, it's just a lovely Christmassy read.

Polly99 · 27/11/2018 09:45

No parsnips in this house because I hate them, but we do love sprouts so will be having them both garlic-buttered and plain.

Loyaultemelie · 27/11/2018 09:47

Turkey
Gammon
Mushroom Wellington (I'm veggie and dd2 is swaying towards it)
Pigs in blankets and veggie pigs in blankets (halloumi wrapped in aubergine)
Roasties
Mash
Sprouts (roasted and steamed)
Cheesy Leeks
Roast Parsnips
Carrots
Yorkshire Puddings
Gravy
Red cabbage with Apple (if dh gets his way)

Loyaultemelie · 27/11/2018 09:48

Argh and stuffing of course chestnut and sausagemeat

BeekyChitch · 27/11/2018 09:51

Brussels sprouts also! We parboil them then fry in soy sauce and oil (AMAZING) and cranberry sauce.

Megan2018 · 27/11/2018 09:57

We have (and my lovely DH is the one that cooks it to perfection):

Turkey
Pigs in blankets - about 10 each and I am not exaggerating. We are greedy buggers.
Roast Pots
Sausagemeat stuffing
Good Housekeeping creamy sprouts recipe (amazing!) - www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/food/recipes/a537111/creamy-sprouts/
Some form of carrot dish (last year they were roasted whole with star anise and something). The carrot dish is always experimental.
Broccoli - just plain as some of the family don't want fancy veg
Peas or fine beans - plain again
Roast parsnips (usually with honey but sometimes something creative)
Red cabbage - this is usually the only bought thing as only 2 out of 8 like it so not worth faffing about for a small portion
Bread sauce - don't know why as only DH eats it!
Cranberry sauce
Gravy
Yorkshires on request

Penguin34 · 27/11/2018 09:59

I usually do

Turkey
Goose (parents bring cooked)
Roast pots
Parmesan Parsnips
Carrots
Peas
Sweetcorn
Green beans
Brussels (Love!)
Cabbage
Yorkshire puds
Paxo stuffing
Real stuffing
Pigs in blankets (lots)
Dad does a ham for the evening

Trifle (mum)
Xmas pud (nan)
Mine pie tart (aunt)
Chocolate log (me)
Mince pies (mum)

Last few years I've cooked for 13 but I have a 12wk old this year so going to my mums and I'll bring the turkey .

Penguin34 · 27/11/2018 10:00

Oh and a really cheesy cauliflower cheese

Willow2017 · 27/11/2018 10:01

Roast pork with crackling or chicken havent decided yet.
Pigs in blankets
Mash
Roasties
Sprouts with chestnuts and bacon
Paxo
Peas
Raw veg for kids: broccoli, sugar snap peas
Gravy of course.

NO Parsnips! Yeeuk.

Still got to chose what desert we are having.

Willow2017 · 27/11/2018 10:02

Argh forgot the Yorkshires no roast is complete without them.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/11/2018 10:02

We just have
Turkey, with streaky bacon on top
Stuffing (sage, onion and sausagemeat)
Lots of pigs in blankets
Lots of crispy roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Carrots and sprouts, al dente and garnished with chopped parsley
Proper turkey gravy, made in the roasting tin with giblet stock (simmered the day before)
Cranberry sauce.
Crackers!

And that's it - apart from a flaming Chr. Pud with cream and brandy butter, that is.

Juanbablo · 27/11/2018 10:03

We do the following:
Meat (turkey or beef)
Pigs in blankets
Veggie sausages
Stuffing (veggie and meat)
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Roast carrots
Sprouts
Peas
Yorkshire puddings
Gravy
Cranberry sauce
Bread sauce if having turkey

I'm hungry

Willow2017 · 27/11/2018 10:05

Megan
Thanks for the sprouts recipie that looks good.

Megan2018 · 27/11/2018 10:08

@Willow2017
It really is good! It has converted several non sprout eaters :)
It was an experimental addition about 4 years ago and has stuck.

Perfectpeony · 27/11/2018 10:11

Logaul halloumi veggie pigs in blanket sounds amazing! Might do that as a starter Grin

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/11/2018 10:26

Breakfast will be Aldi's brioche christmas tree (as it has been every year since they started making it, we love it!) gently heated in the oven, a big pot of coffee, juice for the kids and buck's fizz with a dash of angostura bitters for DH and I.
For dinner:
Two rolled turkey breasts, cooked sous vide with fresh herbs and some turkey fat from the cavity
Turkey thigh confit (with goose fat)
Turkey skin crackling (cut off the breast before cooking, lightly salted and cooked stretched over a grill pan in the oven)
Glazed roast ham
Roast spuds in goose fat with rosemary and chunky salt
The creamy sprout recipe posted above (I do a new sprout recipe every year)
Nigella's gingerbread stuffing
Sausagemeat, chestnut, sage and onion stuffing
Turkey gravy
I usually do bread sauce and cranberry sauce but I'm the only one who really likes them so I'm not going to bother this year.

Followed by spiced apple crumble cheesecake with butterscotch brandy sauce, and the Tesco chocolate cake with the chocolate dome and the wee chocolate village for the kids.

After that, we just pick at leftovers and chocolate for about three days. I LOVE it.

caperplips · 27/11/2018 12:24

This year we will have 4 adults and 1 young teen and we will be having:

homemade cranberry sauce

Dessert:
sherry trifle (my FAV)
yule log or other chocolate dessert for dd

Red and white wine
Baileys / brandy / G&T for after

Rosethistle7 · 27/11/2018 14:38

Oh also if you happen to have guests who don't like classic christmas pudding then M&S chocolate salted caramel pudding is amazing.

MaiaRindell · 27/11/2018 15:51

Turkey
Roast beef
Kilties (chipolatas wrapped in bacon)
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire pudding
Sprouts with chestnut and bacon
Sausage stuffing
Carrots
Parsnips
Green vegetables vary
Gravy
Bread sauce
Stuffing

Biancadelriosback · 27/11/2018 17:12

Okay! Happy with my menu now! Thanks everyone?

Now, what do you do with all your leftovers? Turkey and chips? Soup? Sarnies?

OP posts:
Xmasfairy86 · 27/11/2018 17:15

Yes

To it all

Mini roasts, curry, picky teas

RebeccaCloud9 · 27/11/2018 17:17

Yuck 100% ignore the pp who said no sausagemeat only paxo! (And never go to theirs for Xmas dinner!)

caringcarer · 27/11/2018 17:21

Not Irish but always do Turkey covered in bacon and a ham or else Turkey covered din bacon and a beef.
Always Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, either mashed potatoes or new boiled potatoes, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, carrots, peas, sprouts, cauliflower cheese, swede or sweetcorn (dh vegetarian so always do loads of veg), wine gravy with cream in. Dh has lentil loaf for his Xmas dinner.

If cooking Turkey and beef for Xmas dinner which I do most years then I do a large ham on Xmas eve. Then cold cuts and no cooking on Boxing day.

caringcarer · 27/11/2018 17:23

Leftovers Turkey sandwiches (Boxing Day), Turkey stew and Turkey curry.

caringcarer · 27/11/2018 17:25

Sorry on Xams dinner missed out sausage meat balls and home made stuffing made with parsley. I make that the night before.
