Could I start a thread on this please?

Good ideas especially for children. Useful things that I won't throw in the bin within a few weeks and don't cost a fortune.

So far I have:
Water bottle
Socks
Stickers
Pens and pencils
A knitting Nancy
Top Trumps
Annual

But any brilliant ideas out there?

Stationery: notebooks, stickers, coloured envelopes, erasers, crayons, pens.

Toiletries: expanding flannels, bubble bath, fruity shampoos, deodorant.

For teens: candles, joss sticks, nail polish, hair mascara, coloured hair wax.

Food: mini boxes of treat cereal, imported American sweets, mini jars of choc spread or Speculoos spread, chocolate coins.

Other stuff: those coil shoelaces, new pants and socks, mini metal puzzles, wooden animals, magazine, book, DVD, sweatbands, printed out photos, mini photo frames.

schooltripwoes · 18/11/2018 18:10

Novelty socks / pants
Bubble bath / bath bomb
New toothbrush (my DC are v young and luckily still get more excited about unwrapping than what's in the package)
Sticker / puzzle book
Stationery (Mine love having their own pritt stick, sellotape etc)
Small Lego pack or minifigure (this year I've got them the ornament baubles)
Palm-oil free chocolate (thinking of the orangutans Smile)
DVD

bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 18/11/2018 18:12

Was going to start similar my self!! So far I have DVD, sweets/choc, hair comb, glasses cleaning wipes as dds get very mucky at school, lego mini fig, socks and a book. But stuck after that and it doesn't seem overly fun!!

Sleephead1 · 18/11/2018 18:19

I've got all my little boys presents and we have mostly avoided plastic apart from playmobil but I've just been looking for his stocking. I'm getting him a wooden boomerang, solar paper, a waterwheel kit , socks , bath bomb , a little wooden box with trick opening and a magnetic wand with diffetent coloured sort of coins you can pick up with them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/11/2018 18:21

Mini cereal boxes - always feel like a treat!
Anything foodie - grenadine syrup for making orange juice into a mocktail / personalised Nutella / dried mango or pineapple / little jars of jam

socks / food flask / bamboo toothbrush / bar of soap / expanding flannel / pack of cards / microwave popcorn /

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/11/2018 18:22

wooden yo yo
magazine rolled up
Those Christmas tree things that grow flowers when you put water on them

Leeds2 · 18/11/2018 18:36

Bar of Christmas soap from Lush.
A book.
Crossword/word search/sudoku book.
A purse/wallet.
Can of fizzy drink if this is something they don't have regularly, and so is seen as a treat.
Ice cube maker that does fancy shaped ice cubes (may be viewed as plastic tat!).
Tube of Pringles.
Hat/gloves.
Character socks/pants.
Dominoes game.
Hand cream.
Gel pens/post it notes/highlighters - try Paperchase as they usually have them in funky designs!
Pack of handbag tissues - Boots usually do some with a Christmas design.

lyinginthesundrinkingbubbles · 18/11/2018 18:43

I love the pringles and can of pop idea.
Mine would view that as an absolute treat!

And they still haven't quite worked out new vs second hand so the DVD idea from the charity shop also a winner......

For the last couple of years, I've got my DD (6) a mini bottle of strawberry scented antibac hand gel. No idea why but she likes it. I think it makes her feel grown up.
I also get her some pound shop /TK Maxx cheapy makeup - just tinted lip balm & glittery eyeshadow - yes I know, but it's for wet weekends in only. I'd sooner buy her face paints but she's allergic.
Children's peel-off nail paint.
Bath chalks
Pretty hair clips in the sale from Accessorize. Seem to hold up much longer than other brands.
We got a basic box of these colouring pencils for DD a few years ago, but they are so good that we eventually ended up buying the rest of the set.
A yoyo - we got a nice wooden one a few years ago.
Wind up torch - Mountain Warehouse have a plain black one in the sale at the moment. I've seen more colourful versions available in the past, DD has an animal one.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 18/11/2018 19:19
