Could I start a thread on this please?

Good ideas especially for children. Useful things that I won't throw in the bin within a few weeks and don't cost a fortune.

So far I have:
Water bottle
Socks
Stickers
Pens and pencils
A knitting Nancy
Top Trumps
Annual

But any brilliant ideas out there?

OP posts:

@eastmidswarwicknightnanny code isn’t working is there a typo in your post?

Leeds2 · 18/11/2018 23:25

Where do you get jammy dodgers that are unicorns/dinosaurs?

FixItUpChappie · 18/11/2018 23:32

I always put in a movie.

Other things my kids have enjoyed - Playmobil figures, Lego figures, spyglasses, Schliech figures, regular and audio books. I put in Star Wars watches one year and pirate treasure maps in another. I'm all for real toys in the stocking 🙂

backinaminute · 19/11/2018 06:31

This is such a good thread. I'm trying not to buy for the sake of it and fill the house with tat so looking to buy fewer things but better quality. I will buy them a couple of bits (plastic tat) that I know they will love.

This year so far:
Squishy pineapple
Pot of poo putty (they would never think I would buy them that so must be Santa)
Little plasticine animal kits
David Williams card game
Top trumps
Pot of slime
Book marks

I really like the flannel idea and a trip to lush is in order I think. I will get some branded pants and socks too. I also like the can of pop. I like to put stuff in that I would normally be very 'unfun' about. Making up stockings are my favourite bit of Christmas.

backinaminute · 19/11/2018 06:32

Reading that back my plastic tat limit on stockings has already been met. I think I might get them. DVD each too.

TipseyTorvey · 19/11/2018 06:44

Leeds2 - B & M sell them.

Leeds2 · 19/11/2018 20:36

Thanks, Elf.

I love these threads as I learn about lots of things I never knew existed but now NEED!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 19/11/2018 21:02

My general formula for a stocking is that there can be 1 item that is cheap tat because kids love it. Any other cheap and cheerful item either has to be useful (stationary, notebook for example) edible or something that can be used up. There will also be 3 or 4 items that are slightly better quality (ie. more than a fiver and is generally a book and stuff from their ‘list’.

So far I’ve got:
DS (9)
Extendable back scratcher (cheap tat item!)
Bath bomb
Hair gel
Book
Solitaire game
Guitar plectrum punch
Funky pencils
Will also be getting chocs and one or 2 items from his list.

DD (6)
Hatching unicorn egg (cheap tat item)
LOL surprise pets (I know this will be on her list even though she hasn’t written it yet!)
Book
Bath bomb
Nail polish
Colouring pens
Mini reading light
Knickers
Will also be getting chocs, soft toy and something else from her list.

DD(6 months)
Cutlery set
Sippy cup
Plum pouch
Bubble bath
Cuddly toy
Bibs
Teether
Toothbrush

Lookingforadvice123 · 19/11/2018 21:10

Place marking!

On DS's list (he's 3 on Boxing Day) I have bath crayons, character socks and pants, bath flutes (Amazon cheapie), chocolate, stickers, bubbles, battery operated toothbrush, character mug.

Elflocks · 20/11/2018 09:29

Going to put some babybels in dc stocking. Was also looking for some mini pots of jam.

Leatherboundanddown · 20/11/2018 09:52

Every year I do satsuma, mini coke can, pot of jelly and some sort of sweet or choc that she is allowed to eat straight away FOR ONE DAY A YEAR ONLY. Grin

Also put in a mini bottle of Lush snow fairy shower gel but last year they did not have them which was annoying. Hope they have reinstated that size this year. I put a bath bomb which is for xmas morning bath.

Knickers and socks feature. I will also add some sort of blind bag. I think these are tat but they have brought out sylvanian ones now so I will prob go for that as they are the toys she plays with most.

This year she is starting to get into music and singing so I will add something along those lines.does anyone have any ideas of a small musical instrument? She already has a recorder.

Also likes helping with cooking so will probably get her her own wooden spoon/spatula/utensil sort of thing, maybe some cake cases.
